Appesakkha<br />

Appesakkha (adj.) [acc. to Childers = Sk. *alpa + "$a + !khya, the latter fr. ! + khy! "being called lord of<br />

little"; Trenckner on Miln 65 (see p. 422) says: "appesakkha & mahesakkha are traditionally expld.<br />

appapariv!ra & mah!pariv!ra, the former, I suppose, from appe & sakkha (Sk. s!khya), the latter an<br />

imitation of it". Thus the etym. would be "having little association or friendship" and resemble the term<br />

appasattha. <strong>The</strong> BSk. forms are alpe$!khya & mahe$!khya, e. g. at Av. - ii. 153; Divy 243] of little power,<br />

weak, impotent S ii.229; Miln 65; Sdhp 89.<br />
