Sañchinna<br />

Sañchinna [pp. of sañchindati] Vin i.255 (of the ka&hina, with sama*.al"kata "hemmed"). Also in cpd.<br />

˚patta "with leaves destroyed" is Nd2 reading at Sn 44 (where T. ed. & SnA 91 read sa's"na), as well as at<br />

Sn 64 (in similar context, where T. ed. reads sañchinna). <strong>The</strong> latter passage is expld (Nd2 625) as "bahula --<br />

pattapal!sa sa*.a -- cch!ya," i. e. having thick & dense foliage. <strong>The</strong> same meaning is attached to sañchinna<br />

-- patta at VvA 288 (with v. l. sa's"na!), thus evidently in sense of sañchanna. <strong>The</strong> C. on Sn 64 (viz. SnA<br />

117) takes it as sañchanna in introductory story.<br />

Sañjati<br />

Sañjati is the P. correspondent of sajati1 (s%j), but Sk. sañj=sajjati (to hang on, cling), which at Dhtp 67 &<br />

397 defd as sanga. <strong>The</strong> Dhtp (64) & Dhtm (82) take<br />

sañj in all meanings of !lingana (=sajati2), vissagga (=sajati1), & nimm!na (= sajjeti).<br />

Sañjanati<br />

Sañjanati [sa'+janati] to be born; only in Caus. ˚janeti to cause, produce; realize Pug 16; Sdhp 564 (ger.<br />

˚janayitv!na). -- pp. sañj!ta. See also Pass. sa'j!yati.<br />

Sañjambhari in ˚' karoti is not clear in dern & meaning; perhaps "to tease, abuse," see D i.189 (˚riya'); A<br />

i.187; S ii.282. Probably fr. bh% (Intensive jarbh%ta Vedic!) as *jarbhari. See on dern Konow, J.P.T.S. 1909,<br />

42; Kern, Toev. ii.69. <strong>The</strong> C. on S ii.282 (K.S. ii.203) expls as "sambharita' nirantara' phu&a' aka'su,<br />

upari vijjhi's( ti," i. e. continually touching (or nudging) (phu&a=phu&&ha or pho&ita).<br />

Sañj!ta<br />

Sañj!ta1 [pp. of sañjanati] having become, produced, arisen Dhs 1035 (+bh(ta & other syn.). ˚ -- full of,<br />

grown into, being in a state of Sn 53 (˚khandha= susa*&hita˚ SnA 103); VvA 312, 318 (˚g!rava full of<br />

respect), 324 (˚pas!da).
