Apak!sati<br />

Apak!sati at Vin ii.204 is to be read as apakassati and interpreted as "draw away, distract, bring about a<br />

split or dissension (of the Sangha)". <strong>The</strong> v. l. on p. 325 justifies the correction (apakassati) as well as<br />

Bdhgh's expln. "parisa' !ka..hanti". -- Cp. A iii.145 & see avapak!sati. <strong>The</strong> reading at the id. p. at A v.74<br />

is avakassati (combd. w. vavakassati, where Vin ii.204 has avapak!sati), which is much to be preferred (see<br />

vavakassati).<br />

Apakirit(na<br />

Apakirit(na at Th 2, 447 T (reading of C. is abhi˚) is explained ThA 271 to mean apakiritv! cha..etv!<br />

throwing away, slighting, offending. <strong>The</strong> correct etym = Sk. avakirati (ava + k%2 to strew, cast out) in sense<br />

"to cast off, reject", to which also belongs kir!ta in meaning "cast off" i. e. man of a so -- called low tribe.<br />
