Ras"yati
Ras"yati [Pass. -- Demon. -- formation fr. rasa] to find taste or satisfaction in (gen.), to delight in, to be
pleased A iv.387 (bh!sitassa), 388 (C.: tussati, see p. 470).
Rasmi
Rasmi see ra'si.
Rassa
Rassa (adj.) [cp. Sk. hrasva: Geiger, P.Gr. § 492. The Prk. forms are rahassa & hassa: Pischel § 354] short
(opp. d"gha) D i.193 (d"gh! v! r. v! majjhim! ti v!), 223 (in contrast with d.); Sn 633; Dh 409; J i.356; Dhs
617; Vism 272 (def.); DhA iv.184. -- Cp. ati˚. -- !desa reduction of the determination (here of vowel in
ending) J iii.489. -- sar"ra (adj.) dwarfish, stunted J i.356.
Rassatta
Rassatta (nt.) [fr. rassa] shortness, reduction (of vowel) DhsA 149.
Rahati
Rahati [rah, defd at Dhtp 339 & 632 by "c!ga," giving up, also at Dhtm 490 by "c!gasmi'," 876 by c!ga
and gata] to leave, desert: see pp. rahita & der. rahas, rahassa.
Rahada
Rahada [Vedic hrada, with diaeresis & metathesis *harada >rahada; the other metathetic form of the same
hrada is *draha>daha] a (deep) pond, a lake D i.50 (˚' iva vippasanna' ud!na'); S i.169=183 (dhammo
rahado s"la -- tittho); Sn 721 =Miln 414 (rahado p(ro va pa*.ito); It 92 (rahado va niv!to), 114 (r. sa --
ummi s!va&&o sagaho); DhA ii.152. -- As udaka˚ at D i.74, 84; A iii.25 (ubbhid -- odako); Pug 47. -- On r.
in similes see J.P.T.S. 1907, 127.
Rahas & Raho
Rahas & Raho (nt.) [Vedic rahas. The P!li word is restricted to the forms raho and rah!˚ (=*raha1); a loc.
rahasi is mentioned by Childers, but not found in the Canon. -- To rahati] lonely place, solitude, loneliness;
secrecy, privacy. -- 1. raho: occurring only as adv. "secretly, lonely, in secret," either absolutely, e. g. S
i.46; Sn 388; Pv ii.716 (opp. !vi openly); iv.140 (raho nisinna); Vism 201 (na raho karoti p!p!ni: araha'
tena vuccati); or in cpds. e. g. ˚gata being in private, being alone D i.134 (+pa&isall"na); Sn p. 60. See also
under pa&isall"na; ˚gama "secret convention, secret intercourse," fig. a secret adviser J vi.369 (after Kern,
not found!); ˚v!da secret talk M iii.230. See also anu˚. -- 2. rah!˚, only in cpd. rah! -- bh!va secrecy, in
defn of arahant at DA i.146=Vism 201 (rah!bh!vena ten' esa arahan ti). See also der. r!ha -- seyyaka. Note.
Hardy's reading yath! raha' at Pv ii.923 & PvA 78 is not correct, it should be yath' âraha' (cp. similarly p(j
-- âraha). In the same sense we would preferably read agg' !san' !di -- arah!na' "of those who merit the
first seat etc." at J i.217, although all MSS. have agg!san!di -- rah!na', thus postulating a form raha=araha.
Rahassa
Rahassa (adj. nt.) [Sk. rahasya] secret, private; nt. secrecy, secret Mhvs 35, 64 (vatv! rahassa'); instr.
rahassena (as adv.) secretly Mhvs 36, 80; acc. rahassa' id. Pv iv. 165. -- kath! secret speech, whispered
words J i.411; ii.6.
