prevails, but many shades of it are possible according to context & combinations. It is impossible &<br />

unnecessary to enumerate all shades of meaning, only a few idiomatic uses may be pointed out. -- 1. to<br />

happen, to occur, to befall J vi.368. -- 2. <strong>The</strong> fut. bhavissati "is certainly," "must be" DhA iii.171 (s!tthik!<br />

desan! bh.); Miln 40 (m!t! ti pi na bh.). 3. Imper. hotu as adv. "very well" Miln 18 (hotu bhante very<br />

well, sir). -- 4. aor. in meaning and as substitute of !si', pret. of as to be; etad ahosi this occurred to him<br />

DhA i.399 (ass! etad ahosi "this thought struck her").<br />

Bhavant<br />

Bhavant [cp. Sk. (& Vedic) bhavant, used as pron. of the 2nd; but constructed with 3rd person of the verb.<br />

Probably a contraction fr. bhagavant, see Whitney, Altind. Gr. 456] pron. of polite address "Sir, Lord," or<br />
