*Ph!&eti
*Ph!&eti is conjectured reading for p!teti in phrase ka&&ha' p!teti M i.21, and in adhip!teti to split (see
adhip!ta & vip!ta). The derivation of these expressions from pat is out of place, where close relation to
ph!leti (phalati) is evident, and a derivation from pha&=sphat, as in Sk. sph!&ayati to split, is the only right
expln of meaning. In that case we should put phal=spha&, where l =&, as in many Pali words, cp.
phalikaP.Gr. § 386). The Prk. correspondent is ph!.ei (Pischel, Gr. § 208).
