Pu's
Pu's [Vedic pu's (weak base) and pum!'s (strong base), often opp. to str" (woman, female); cp. putra &
potaka]. Of the simplex no forms are found in P!li proper. The base pu' occurs in pukusa (?), puggala (?),
pungava, pullinga; pu's in napu'saka (cp. Prk. napu'saveya Pischel, Gram. § 412). The role of pu's as
contrast to itthi has in P!li been taken over by purisa, except in itthi -- pum! at the old passage D iii.85. The
strong base is in P. puman (q. v.). See also posa1.
