Pariya [either short form of pariy!ya, or ger. of pari+" substantivised (for the regular form paricca)
representing an ending -- ya instead of -- tya. -- Bdhgh at Vism 409 takes pariya as nt., but seems to mix it
with the idea of a ppr. by defining it as "pariy!t" ti pariya', paricchindat" ti attho"] encompassing,
fathoming, comprehending (as ger.); penetration, understanding (as n.). Only in phrase ceto -- pariya --
ñ!*a knowledge encompassing heart or mind (cp. phrase cetas! ceto paricca) D ii.82 sq. (v. l. ˚!ya); iii.100
(v. l. ˚!ye); DA i.223 (corresp. with pubbe -- niv!sa -- ñ!*a); with which alternates the phrase indriya --
paro -- pariya -- ñ!*a in same meaning (see indriya cpds. & remark on paropariya) J i.78. -- See also
