Wreathful delights
Concrete and Garden Creations tells us this edition’s
DIY succulent wreath will keep you creatively
engaged over many a weekend. It does, however,
demand some detailed work and the fabricating of
the wire ring, that forms the base for the project,
might be a bit tough on the hands, so be sure to
wear gardening gloves. The wonderful thing about
this succulent wreath is that once it has served its
decorative purpose, it can be placed in the garden
where it will provide a beautiful focal point.
Shopping list
• Hydrocache - improves water
retention and also ads carbon to
your soil
• Coir lining
• Wire: +/- three millimetres thick
and thinner galvanised iron coil
• Stockings
• Paper clips
• Succulent pot mix
• Kebab stick
• A variety of succulents.
Step 1
From your sheet of cover lining, cut a
ring with about a 45-centimetre outer
diameter and about a 35-centimetre
inner diameter (as per the illustration).
Make two wire circles/rings, one
slightly smaller than the other. Lay
them down on top of your cover
lining.
Step 2
With scissors, make short cuts - on
the inner and outer side - around the
edge of the cover lining.
Step 3
Fold the cover lining over the wire
(on both the inner and outer edges)
and, using thin wire, and in a zig-zag
manner, fasten it around the wire
rings. Do it in such a way that you
keep a wide space between the outer
and the inner ring.
Step 4
Mix a handful of hydrocache with
your succulent pot mix.
Step 5
Take the stockings and fill them with
the potting mix. Tie it down at the
end once filled and place it on top of
your wreath frame.
