• Telefonica increased its investment in the country and is committed to further<br />
modernization of the Czech telecom sector.<br />
• E-commerce in the Czech Republic continues to grow. Thirty-six percent of<br />
households and 92 percent of businesses have <strong>In</strong>ternet access. Progress is slow<br />
but steady.<br />
• Computer and office equipment hardware still accounts for a very large share (46<br />
percent) of the IT market, but the market is gradually shifting to software and<br />
services (currently 19 and 36 percent respectively).<br />
• Mobile phone usage outstrips the EU average – this country of 10.3 million people<br />
boasts 12 million mobile phones, and increasing numbers of Czech consumers are<br />
canceling their fixed lines. Overall spending on telecommunication equipment and<br />
services is increasing.<br />
• U.S. suppliers are price competitive in the Czech Republic, due to the continuously<br />
fluctuating dollar.<br />
