The Czech communication and utilities sector led the Czech IT market with spending of USD14.5 million in 2008/2009. Czech telecommunications companies, expanding their broadband infrastructure and investing in next-generation services, accounted for the bulk of it. Manufacturing firms managed USD9.7 million, although this highly export-oriented sector was among the first- and hardest- hit by the crisis. Future spending in this sector will be driven by the desire to optimize infrastructure. U.S. companies with niche products and services will continue to find good opportunities by working with a local partner, either agent or OEM. Major players include SWS, Oracle, Auto Cont, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Sun Microsystems, eD’T-Systems, Unisys, CompuSource/MacSource and Unicorn.
