Component and assembling electronics businesses faced a decline of about 10-15%; IT, automation equipment supplies and heavy-current technologies for investment projects were not affected as much. Heavy-current technology accounted for approximately 44%, computer technologies for 24%, audio/video for 21% and automation and medical equipment for 11% of total electrical industry production. The sector is characterized by a high proportion of imported materials, components and parts for production and assembly and also by a high proportion of exported products. Outsourcing of electronics manufacturing (contract manufacturing) has been a dominant trend, however, the Czech Republic’s new R&D facilities are becoming an increasingly significant driver of economic activity.
