Different types of U.S work visas
Immigrant visas
Non-immigrant visas.
An immigrant visa gives permission to
immigrate permanently to the U.S. and this is
known as a Green card. Immigrant visas can be
obtained through employment as EB-1, EB-2,
EB-3, investment EB-5.
Those who hold Green cards are entitled for Legal
Permanent Residents (LPRs). Before receiving U.S.
citizenship, one must hold LPR before he or she can
eventually qualify for citizenship.
All others are non-immigrant visas and these are
temporary and can be issued for a variety of specific
purposes. They have certain different validity
periods.
Under Cap-exemption your employer is not subject
to the cap and is able to file your petition at any
time and upon approval of petition, you are allowed
to work immediately

Once a H1-B visa is issued, the initial validity period is three
years from the start of employment date and this is at par with
some of the other regular non-immigrant visas such as the L-1A
and L-1B.
Other exclusive visas like O-1 and E-2 are valid for two years.
The L-1A allows you to extend your validity period to seven years
whereas O-1 and E-2 visas permit the holder to extend their
validity period up to an indefinite number of times as long as
they maintain their status, they can remain in the U.S.
H-1B permits you to extend your visa for another three years,
giving a grand total of six years to work in the U.S.
