WELCOME
When I came into teaching,
I wanted to be the kind of
teacher I wanted to have as a
child. As a Headmaster I believe
that Embley is the kind of
school that children and their
families want to have.
We believe that every child is unique and
deserves the recognition of that as they
grow. We are academically ambitious for our
children and motivate them to achieve their
personal best. We encourage an appropriate
belief in oneself while being mindful that the
world does not end at the tip of one’s nose
and that happiness in life is through success
in enriching the lives of others.
Our expectations are high and we make no
apology for this; children respond positively
to the belief we have in them. They are
encouraged to take intellectual risks, to
challenge themselves and to respond to that
challenge because they know we are there
to support them. Mistakes are valued as
opportunities for growth and development.
We expect all our pupils to develop
independence, responsibility and a spirit
of enquiry from a young age but we
cannot foster these ideals without giving
our children a meaningful opportunity to
practise them. From class representation
in student councils our students also lead
on national conferences, address national
education fora, trade on the London
Exchange in our Stock Market Investment
Club and develop their economic and
business acumen through our MBA
Experience in partnership with Winchester
University. They also lead award winning
sailing, drama and golf programmes and, in
co-operation with staff, plan and manage
business tendering and projects. Our
children have the opportunity to be their
best and leave us with a character that will
inform the rest of their lives.
Our students go out into the world with
a sense of purpose. They leave us with
academic achievement, personal fulfilment
and the desire to make a difference.

From Nursery through to our Sixth Form, we believe

BEYOND THE
CLASSROOM
Our children benefit from a unique and enriched
curriculum where teaching and learning go beyond
the classroom as we utilise our 130 acres of private
parkland and woodland to provide the broadest
spectrum of academic, creative and physical
learning experiences.
Our beautiful grounds include a nine-hole golf course, a swimming pool,
tennis courts, playing fields, astro turf pitches and so much more. Sailing is
part of our curriculum aboard our 11m deep water racing yacht and fleet of
Etchells which are moored in Lymington. Our class-leading crews regularly
compete and win in world famous challenges such as the Round the Island
Race and other racing series. Our award-winning ski team compete in UK
and European championships.

PREPARING FOR
PREP SCHOOL
Our Nursery is brimming with healthy,
happy and confident children. Behind our joyful
atmosphere conceals a meticulous approach to
ensuring the academic development and personal
wellbeing of every child in our care. We provide
a careful balance of structured learning and
child-initiated play, where young ones can enjoy
learning and progress individually.
From the day your child joins us, we help prepare them for school with
fun, interactive and wholly tailored experiences, ensuring our Nursery
children are Reception ready with reading, writing, phonics and
mathematics above age-related expectations. Our self-contained Early
Years Department has easy access to our Prep School facilities and
grounds and, with Reception class next door, the transition from nursery
to school couldn’t be smoother.

PREP SCHOOL
Our Prep School provides an education with character
that uncovers and nurtures each child’s niche and
inspires ambition and academic achievement.
Children are encouraged to be independent and push
themselves to find out more, giving a real sense of
purpose to their learning adventures.
Specialist subject staff work across every year group to give our children the
very best learning experiences. Academic opportunities are combined with
a diverse co-curricular programme including performing arts, drama and
music alongside sports such as sailing, skiing, golf and tennis. Many and varied
initiatives and events, such as our Prep School Stock Market Investment Club
and Prep Politics, Philosophy & Economics Conference provide a variety of
complex, multi-layered problem solving experiences and develop articulate,
reasoned and informed children with analytical minds. Combined with excellent
levels of pastoral care, each child has the confidence to face any challenge.

SENIOR SCHOOL
At the heart of our carefully designed curriculum is
a stimulating and engaging teaching and learning
experience. Academic rigour ensures students feel
both success and challenge on a daily basis while
receiving the support and recognition they deserve.
Our teaching and learning strategy is evidence and research based, using
proven methods that enable every child to achieve their best. This is
supported by an innovative approach to the use of technology, which is
shaped by our nationally recognised and award-winning leaders. Class
sizes are small and tailored to monitor and assess each child on a regular
basis. We ensure that every pupil is in the right class for their individual
strengths and needs, where they will be stretched at an appropriate pace
and there is scope for their evolving skill set.

SIXTH FORM
Our outstanding teaching expertise, personalised
curriculums and one to one support will help prepare
your son or daughter for life beyond school. We
combine innovation with tradition to provide a unique
Sixth Form learning experience.
Students have a unique opportunity to be supported as individuals, build
their LinkedIn profiles and develop a clear pathway for fulfilling their
career aspirations. Our MBA Experience is delivered by leading business
professionals; our Nightingale Lectures see explorers, astronauts, leading
sports personalities and Formula 1 designers and engineers speak to students
during formal, black tie dining experiences; iPads form part of our multifaceted
approach to learning; and our higher education conferences, university
roadshows and industry careers events all form part of a two-year programme.
Sixth Formers have the opportunity to lead and contribute to many areas of the
school community, honing their leadership skills within the prefect and house
system. They are expected to play a significant part in School Council and
support younger pupils in becoming confident members of our community.

house and its pupils set the pulse for the school.
We provide a home away from home where children
from across the UK and from a range of international
backgrounds can live, learn and work together in
a secure environment that fits around your son or
daughter’s individual needs and preferences.
We offer a multicultural setting where our boarders submerge
themselves deeper into school life. Pupils enjoy a relaxed family
atmosphere to unwind in but with the structure of a secure,

LEARNING
THROUGH SPORT
Sport at Embley is underpinned by core traditional
values which promote a thirst for challenge and
success; inspiring resilience, confidence, integrity
and humanity. Through a wide range of opportunities
from traditional sports such as rugby, hockey, cricket
and athletics to our outdoor adventure sports such as
sailing and skiing, sport is tailored to all abilities, it is
fully inclusive and everyone has the opportunity
to try different experiences.
We partner with Bath Rugby to deliver a professional coaching programme
for pupils and we are the hub for Hampshire girls’ cricket. Through our
programme of scholarships, we provide our elite sports students with
the training, facilities, high-quality coaching and competition required to
help them reach the pinnacle of their sporting potential. We are proud to
have attained a national reputation for our competitive tournaments and
performance in a number of sports, and international sports tours are key
fixtures of the school calendar.

THROUGH CREATIVITY
Creativity is rooted in all aspects of the learning

opportunities available for all our pupils to enjoy.
As well as promoting a rigorous academic life, we believe that it is

design technology, pupils have the opportunity to reveal their

AN EDUCATION
We instil a passion in our pupils for seeking out new
experiences. Through clubs and societies, cultural
trips, residential opportunities and Duke of Edinburgh,
we encourage pupils to take calculated risks to
help them grow in confidence. The school offers a
safe environment for pushing boundaries, fostering
community spirit and developing deep social and
cultural awareness and - ultimately - delivering a rich,
well-rounded and diverse education.
Most clubs feature mixed age groups and, importantly, encourage pupils to
get to know one another and staff within a new context. Because the school
is surrounded by areas steeped in history and academic interest, there are
also many opportunities for excursions that complement the curriculum.
