AUR is home to 550 students from
over fifty countries and almost thirty
languages are spoken on campus.
One of the mot significant benefits of studying
overseas is the perspective and personal
adaptability that a student can gain from immersing
themselves in a foreign environment. Learning
to navigate a new culture, with its own historical,
cultural, and political signifiers – and thrive within
it – is a real catalyst for personal growth and selfdiscovery.
The American University of Rome is a global
melting-pot of nationalities, backgrounds, and
personalities. Both within and beyond the campus,
students are constantly engaging with people from
all over the world and from all walks of life. Ours is a
truly unique and astounding community.
THE AUR DIFFERENCE
The defining aspects of an AUR education are simple but transformational:
1. AUR has a relatively small
student body of around 550
undergraduate and postgraduate
students. Classes have a low
student to staff ratio, creating an
intimate learning environment
and engendering in-depth
classroom discussions that serve
to strengthen and enhance each
student's learning.
2. Abundant opportunities to
gain real-world work experience
through internships with national
and international commercial
companies and NGOs.
Over 75% of our students will
complete an internship; many will
complete two.
3. All programs combine

with practical experience, and

Our philosophy is that, to make the
most of your experience in Rome, you
should live like a local. Our university
apartments have been selected to
facilitate a full cultural immersion and
are located in excellent residential
neighborhoods around the campus.
We offer both single sex and genderinclusive
housing and students are
guaranteed a place in university
accommodation for each semester at
AUR, should they so choose.

our apartments are fully furnished
and close to campus, so you can
usually get to class on foot or via a

a rolling admissions basis, and we require a 3.0
minimum GPA to apply.
Applicants are reviewed individually and
holistically. We look for leadership, motivation,
academic improvement and rigor, involvement
in clubs or organizations, work experience (both
paid and voluntary), and more when considering
your application.

UR’s Bachelor of Arts degree
Ain Archaeology and Classics
is unique. There is no other
archaeology program that
grants students such a wealth
of opportunities to complement
their studies in the classroom
with experiential learning in the
city itself, whether through taking
part in an excavation, visiting
one of Rome’s innumerable
ancient sites, or marvelling at
the treasures of its museums.
No other course in this field can
provide students such intimate
interaction with their subject or
such amazing opportunities for
field experience. This combination
of theoretical and practical study
ensures that students stand head
and shoulders above their peers.
WHY AUR?
Inside the classroom, students
are grounded in all aspects of
the Classical world, with courses
spanning the geography and
chronology of the ancient
Mediterranean. Traditional
elements of the course can
be studied alongside more
contemporary components such
as Heritage Management and
Screen Media.

he Film and Digital Media major
Tat The American University of
Rome is conducted by an awardwinning
team of film and media
experts with direct experience in
the film industry. The curriculum
offers a broad range of courses
in different but related areas of
study, including film production,
design and development
of multimedia products,
screenwriting, and photography.
WHY AUR?
This program delves into the
history of motion pictures as well
as providing instruction in film
studies, media production, 2D
and 3D animation, graphic design,
digital art, app design, and game
design. Students may complement
their practical skills with courses
exploring the history of film and
video and the issues surrounding
the film industry today.
The Film and Digital Media major is the only degree program of its kind to be
taught in English in Italy.
Two specializations are available: Visual Media Production and Technology or
Film and Digital Media Studies.

The program combines training
in traditional artistic media with
a critical approach to making art.
Rome is our classroom and the
Eternal City offers possibilities that
cannot be matched anywhere else
in the world.
WHY AUR?
AUR’s Fine Arts degree program
uses the city of Rome to its
full advantage! Our Fine Arts
students regularly use the
Eternal City to hone their craft in
venues of constant inspiration:
the Colosseum, the Forum, the
Orange Garden, and the Capitoline
Museums to name but a few.
On-site classes allow students firsthand
interaction with the artists,
movements, and techniques
that they study in the classroom,
and serve as the ideal model for
sketching and painting practice.
This program incorporates a range of disciplines including art history, conservation, and restoration. AUR’s
Fine Arts students learn to manage projects from conception to execution, exhibition to analysis, and
in doing so they accumulate strong strategic planning and project management skills. Unique program
strengths include painting, sculpting, material arts, and gallery management. Each semester concludes
with a public exhibition of artworks by students in AUR’s dedicated exhibition gallery.
