A principle of nature inspired the basic idea behind X-Socks ® . In such 

natural processes as metabolism and physical movement, a maximum 

effect is achieved with a minimum expenditure of energy. Muscles could 

be much more powerful than they actually are. However, they not only

products. The goal the X-Socks ® R&D team defined for itself was a seemingly

our feet into marvelously complex machines that perform unbelievable 

feats. They support our entire body weight and act as nature's shock 

absorbers with every step we take. Depending on the amount of work 

they have to do, our feet can lose up to sixty grams of moisture a day in 

the form of perspiration. And of course, there's the additional mechanical 

stress exerted by shoes. In other words, our feet have a tough job to 

do and never get a day off. 

Walking Barefoot is What Nature Intended 

The point of departure for the X-Socks ® R&D team was the realization 

that bare feet would live up to these high demands perfectly – if only 

we humans hadn't ventured into climate zones that make wearing shoes 

a necessity. The challenge was recreating the optimal conditions of 

walking barefoot in the closed environment of a shoe.

Through the Rocky Mountains with X-Socks ® 

Canada Excursion 

20.8-20.9.2002 

Through the wilderness with high-tech on your feet: 

Walter Luekenga led a group of geology students from the University of 

Osnabrueck in Germany on a four-week excursion to Canada. X-Socks ® provided 

a camera for the eighteen participants and outfitted them with hiking and 

trekking socks. X-Socks ® supported the team on its adventurous trek through the 

extreme terrain. They helped the students brave freezing temperatures, snow, 

and rain. The damp, cold weather, strenuous climbing tours, and wild-water

Nature is Our Role Model. 

Problem 

Human beings have evolved and their shoes have evolved 

with them. Thick, stiff leather was used to shield the 

soles of the feet, straw was stuffed into boots to combat 

the cold, and clasps and laces were invented. But the 

crude footwear cut into the skin and chafed those areas 

of the foot not equipped with natural padding, such as 

the instep, toes, heel, and sides of the foot. 

The classic solution until now: A thicker sock means better 

protection. That's a delusion.The heat can not just disappear 

and the skin perspires and softens up. 

The foot begins to perspire but moisture cannot escape 

because the footwear is too tight. The result: the skin becomes 

moist, remains continually wet, and eventually 

loses its elasticity. We know what happens when we sit in 

warm water too long, for example, when we take a long 

bath. We call this the ‘Bathtub Effect’. Sodden skin is particularly 

susceptible to injury. The friction caused by footwear 

quickly damages the soaked skin, painful abrasions 

and blisters are the result. 

Solution 

The answer to this problem is easy. Barefoot walkers 

don't develop blisters. Heat and moisture are able to 

evaporate quickly. 

In order to ensure that the feet remain free from blisters, 

abrasions, chafing, and bruises, they must be kept dry 

and well-ventilated. Anatomically sensitive areas must 

receive ample protection from friction and pressure.

Our entire body weight is borne by only a few small areas of the 

foot. Using the best technology available today, the anatomicallyformed 

footbed protects and supports these high stress areas. 

With each step soft padding absorbs the impact from the jolts 

and shocks that jar the body. 

The arch of the foot is a place that barely receives any stress. We 

took advantage of this situation positioning our AirConditioning 

Channel ® there and then directing it up under the sole of the foot. 

We succeeded perfectly in meeting the requirements for an anatomically 

supported foot as well as providing optimal circulation

Our feet depend on the fine tuned interaction of tendons, 

ligaments, muscles and joints. One careless step can be enough to 

destroy this experienced team. Therefore the ankles require extra 

protection without inhibiting the foot’s freedom. This is why we 

invented the X-Cross ® Bandage. It is a cross ankle bandage knitted 

from elastic AirDens material, it stabilizes the ankle and 

optimally supports the feet’s function.

We positioned the AirConditioning Channel ® under the footarch, 

the area of the foot that normally does not touch the 

ground. It begins there and then moves along the foot up to the 

cuff. Covering only 30% of the skin’s surface, it is constructed 

using a fine-knit mesh, so with every step moist air is pumped 

out of the shoe and fresh air is drawn back in. An optimal air 

circulation system for the foot is now a reality; fresh air can even 

be circulated within a snug-fitting boot. An AirGuide along the 

AirConditioning Channel ® facilitates efficient air circulation. 

If the foot is dry, chances are lower that a blister will form.

The Traverse AirFlow Channel System is a ventilation system 

made up of three channels that conduct moisture and heat to the 

intake area of the AirConditioning Channel ® . 

The traverse ventilation system insures that large areas of the 

sole of the foot, areas normally tightly pressed into the shoe, are 

amply supplied with fresh air. 

For this, the pumping action of the arch of the foot is mobilized. 

When you step down, the flattening of the arch forces fresh air 

around the entire sole of the foot, and when the arch rises again, 

air is drawn out of the shoe. The continuous air transfer carries 

excess heat and moisture out and keeps the foot naturally dry 

and well ventilated.

The Achilles’ tendon Protector reduces the incidence of pressure 

points and the risk of scraping and bruising. 

The special Lambertz-Nicholson Achilles’ tendon Protector 

prevents strain on the sensitive Achilles tendon because it is 

protected by a surrounding cushion. This shock-absorbing 

cushion serves as a buffer between foot and shoe and thus 

prevents pressure and friction.

The thicker the cushion the better the protection. The fact that 

such stockings can literally strangle a person has been ignored 

by all sock manufacturers. Except us. We have developed a sophisticated 

cushion system which perfectly protects and allows 

air to circulate even within the shoe. The rod type structure of 

the padding allows air to travel, so in the case of impact, the 

pressure is not transferred to the skin, but escapes to the sides. 

This way the shock is not only buffered in one direction, but 

three times and in three directions. The shin protector is made 

of abrasion resistant and shock buffering material and – in 

combination with the rod type padding – gives the leg all 

around protection.

Sometimes the smallest things can have the largest impact. 

The shoe or boot may fit so well in the store that you will wonder 

if the feeling will hold up after hours of wear. Everyone knows 

the unpleasant feeling when a toe constantly bumps up against 

the shoe. After a while you have a painful sore spot. 

The chances of this problem occurring while doing sports is 

quite high because the continuous movement can cause the foot 

to slide forward in the shoe. To buffer the foot from this pressure 

the ToeTip Protector is made of a shock-absorbing hollowchamber 

yarn that cushions and protects the toes and the 

especially sensitive tips of the toes.

or constricting.

Endangered ankle 

If the foot is in anyway injured during a fall, it is usually the 

ankle that receives most of the damage. Unfortunately, it 

protrudes from the lower part of our leg and if we fall there is 

not much we can do to save it from scrapes and abrasions. 

The abrasion protector 

The tear-resistant ankle pads with an integrated AirFlow design 

protect this sensitive area during a skid on soil and asphalt.

Duckbill-shaped foot guard 

The duckbill-shaped foot guard pads the toes, instep, and balls 

of the feet against the heavy strain encountered when attacking a 

hill, and during high intensity sprints. The special Silver Nodor 

or SkinNodor and Mythlan fabric combination means that the 

fabric does not reduce space within the shoe. In addition, the 

special multi-filament design of the anti-bacterial materials traps 

air in its fibers. These tiny pockets of encased air protect against 

any pressure caused by the shoe, or the pedal. When the foot is 

called on to work hard it stretches and ex-pands. In order to 

accommodate this swelling, the socks are made of a special knit 

rib material.

the pedal moisture is pumped out from inside the shoe and is

force of impacts and works in combination with a high 

performance ventilation system. Your feet are not only 

protected but also well ventilated without the danger 

of becoming cold. The AirConditioning Channel ® is 

the central component of the heat and moisture regulation 

system. Every movement of the foot and the pumping 

action of the arch of the foot transfers the hot, 

moist air to the AirConditioning Channel ® and out of 

the boot. The easing off of pressure draws a flow of 

“fresh” air into the shoe. The circulating fresh air ensures 

that the feet stay comfortably dry and the temperature 

around them pleasantly constant. Because 

when you’re skiing only dry feet are capable of withstanding

high-tech fibers. The ultra-light, self-contained micro-fiber construction 

means that bacteria cannot take hold. 

MYTHLAN is thus completely pH balanced and hypo-allergenic. 

The lightness of the MYTHLAN fabric means that air can circulate 

freely and affords superb temperature regulation. 

It goes without saying that a modern material like MYTHLAN is 

easy to care for and colorfast. 

DURAWOOL is a new, innovative, extremely light, yet robust 

yarn compound that provides an outstanding combination of the 

properties that make high-tech fibers so pleasant to wear, with the 

qualities of natural wool. Exceptional manufacturing technology 

enables Durawool to protect the skin from the outside temperature 

and maintain body temperature at an optimal level. 

The smooth, tightly-sealed surface structure rapidly conducts moisture 

away from the skin's surface, so that no moisture can accumulate 

inside the yarn. The chances of developing foot odor are 

significantly reduced. 

ROBUR is a multi-purpose, hollow-bodied fiber which contains a 

sealed inner air chamber which actively breathes, remains elastic 

and protects against jarring impacts and pressure. The complex 

three-thread fiber construction makes Robur extremely durable 

and tear-resistant. Special Robur-reinforced padding protects the 

sensitive Achilles tendon, the instep, the ankle, and especially the

temperature of 37°C. NanoCore improves the protection against

with a polyamide fiber core and a surface consisting of 99.9% pure 

silver. The special Terry-Loop design of SilverNodor means that 

elasticity is maintained and insures that 80% of the foot's surface remains 

in constant contact with the pure, oxidation-free silver. 

Your body heat activates SilverNodor, releasing charged silver 

ions that are totally safe to humans and non-reactive on your skin. 

But these silver ions mean certain death for bacteria and fungi living 

on your socks. These microscopic silver ions bind to the bacteria, 

disrupting RNA and DNA synthesis, thus inhibiting reproduction 

and killing the organism. 

In comparable products containing silver, the silver yarn is 

simply woven alongside the conventional yarn. This fails to 

bring a sufficient amount of the potent silver material into direct

1 Traverse Chest 


The chest area is especially prone to the 

development of heat and perspiration. When 

the body heats up, it produces varying amounts 

of perspiration in different areas. This moisture 

is produced for one reason only: to help the 

body regulate temperature through the cooling 

effect of evaporation. The body should not be 

deprived of this effective tool. For this reason, 

zones have been created and delimited in which 

this process can take place without negatively 

affecting subjective heat perception.The Traverse 

Chest AirConditioning Channel® cools the 

chest area,reducing temperature in this zone 

by 2-3° C. 

2 AirConditioning ArmPit 

Body odor develops when bacteria multiply on 

the skin's surface. Dead skin cells, perspiration, 

and warmth provide ideal conditions for this to 

occur. To stop this process it is crucial to keep 

the skin's surface as dry as possible. The armpit 

contains a large number of sweat glands that 

are activated during physical activity. This is 

where AirConditioning ArmPit, a fine mesh 

made of SkinNODOR and bordered by an 

AirGuide (orange contour), comes in. When 

perspiration sets in, SkinNODOR creates a 

barrier between the moisture and the skin. 

SkinNODOR does not absorb moisture. 

Accelerated by body heat, moisture is pushed 

toward the SkinNODOR exterior layer, without 

being temporarily absorbed first. The skin feels 

comfortably dry. 

3 AirConditioning BodyChannel 

AirConditioning BodyChannel criss- crosses 

the body's surface like a road system. The system 

conducts air and trans-ports heat and moisture 

to those parts of the body where evaporation 

has no nega-tive cooling effect on organs or 

muscles. Along the side of the body and in the 

inner thigh area, in particular, this partial cooling 

can achieve a high degree of effectiveness for 

the climate regulation of the entire body. 

4 AirTraps Isolation Pads 

The AirTraps Isolation Pads are distributed 

over the body, featuring a wavy pattern rather 

than lying flat on the entire surface of the skin.

5 InnerLap AirConditioning Zone 

The inner thigh is an area not at immediate risk 

of hypothermia. That's why it can be utilized 

as an area to emit excess heat without negative 

effects on muscle function. 

6 Tummy X-Control 

The muscles of the abdominal wall are exercised 

virtually constantly during any kind of physical 

activity, causing heat to build up. 

Excess heat in this area is released through the 

Tummy X-Control channel. 

7 Expansion Ribs 

We can bend our knees and elbows up to 160 

degrees. What underwear can accommodate 

that without sacrificing fit and insulation? If a 

joint is bent, that usually translates into only 

half of the original material density, giving cold 

air from the environment a "free ticket" and 

unhindered access. X-UnderGear, on the 

other hand, gradually expands its highly-flexible

9 Isolation Calf Pad 

Thoroughly warming up calf musculature is 

crucial to physical performance. 

After a break in physical activity, we often do 

not notice that these muscles have cooled off,
