A Final Note From President, Trevor Cooper
Trevor Cooper,
SCGH Foundation President
Dear Friends of The Foundation,
I write to thank and congratulate all of you. You made our 2008 fiscal
year a record! We exceeded $3.3 million raised, which will be
devoted to the St. Catharines General Hospital for the purchase of
urgently needed equipment. Over the last four fiscal years, we have
raised $10.9 million, again another record! To all of you who have
made this achievement possible, you have made a significant
difference to healthcare in our community.
I am also very pleased to announce Mr. Ameer Wakil has been selected
unanimously by our board to lead the Foundation onto even greater
success. I have had the great pleasure to serve with Ameer for the last
5 years and can assure you that we are fortunate to have such a
capable executive at the helm of the Foundation, as we enter a new
era in Niagara healthcare with the building of our new facility.
It has been a privilege to serve as the President of the Foundation for
the last four years and to see so many be so very generous. This
generosity is not limited to our wonderful donors but extends to our
tremendous volunteers and board members. I would like to thank all
of our past and current volunteers, both board members and
everyone who helps make our fundraising efforts so successful, for
their tireless efforts to improve the quality of care and increase access
to the newest and best technology for our region.
Lastly, I would like to thank Sandra Wilkes, our amazing Executive
Director, and her great staff. She is the constant at the heart of this
Foundation. Her vision and tireless efforts make this Foundation a
success story to be proud of for the entire Niagara community.
Thank you all for your kindness, generosity and ongoing efforts for
Niagara healthcare. Your gifts of time and funding have laid a strong
foundation for a healthier Niagara community.
Yours truly,
Sundawn “On Par”
for 13th Annual Golf Classic
The sweltering heat didn't affect the spirits of 170
participants of the 13th Annual Golf Classic on Monday,
July 7, 2008 at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club.
After expenses, a grand total of $65,000 was raised toward the
Guests enjoyed a fabulous day of golf, food and fundraising for
our local community hospital. This year we were thrilled with
Coins From the Heart
Students support Paeds one coin at a time
In the bustling hallways of four Niagara elementary schools, the sounds of
jingling pockets loaded with change rose above the daily commotion as
students raced from room to room dropping coins into buckets placed in each
classroom.
This year's campaign raised far more than pocket change. Fundraising efforts
from the staff and students at Glen Ridge, Parnall, Monsignor Clancy and
Ferndale schools raised over $2,200 toward the purchase of a Portable Oxygen
Saturation Monitor for Paediatrics. Since inception Coins for Kids has raised an
unprecedented $78,000 for the Maternal Child Centre at the SCG.
Once again our friends at Glen Ridge Public School were awarded the top
fundraising school for the fourth consecutive year. McBoyco Ltd. generously
donated lunch certificates to each student at Glen Ridge during an annual
appreciation ceremony in June for our participating schools. A special thanks to
Seaway farms for providing beautiful potted plants to brighten our celebration.
We would like to express a sincere thank you to John Hunt and his family for
their continued support of Coins for Kids. As chair of Coins for Kids, John's
involvement is integral to the success of this program.
Representatives from Glen Ridge, our top fundraising school, were
pleased to accept their Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of
their school.
Friends from Parnell (left) and Monsignor Clancy (right) were happy
to participate in the Coins for Kids festivities
Gary Waters Ladies Day
Our friends at Gary Waters hosted another successful Ladies Christmas
Shopping Open House. Proceeds totaling $1,900 were directed toward
the Evangelista/Adams Centre for Breast Screening. We are grateful to be
the recipient of this generous donation.
A special thank you from the
Emergency Department
I just wanted to acknowledge another
wonderful donation from the Foundation office.
We appreciate the puzzles, beanie babies and
books that were graciously passed along to us
from donors within the community.
We see so many children in the Emergency
Department on a daily basis. These sorts of
gifts help to alleviate and distract a child from
a sometimes uneasy or even fearful ED visit.
Thanks again to The Foundation Office
and its many donors.
Sincerely,
Vera Girard, RN, Emergency Dept.
