When we use makeup brushes, a lot of product is absorbed in them. The oils from the
skin and the dirt particles stick to it. This creates a suitable habitat for the bacteria. If
you keep ignoring their cleaning process and continue using them, you kind of rub the
bacteria on your face. Eww, gross! Right? This bacteria then cause breakouts in your
skin. The growing acne and clogged pores are all the doings of this bacteria. Now, if you
want to steer clear of such an experience, add up washing your makeup brushes
regularly to your routine.
How to wash makeup brushes the right way?
Cleaning those tacky makeup brushes isn’t a heck of a task. There are various ways of
cleaning them. Here we will discuss four ways to cleanse those little fellas.
1. With a soap bar
Many people like to wash their dirty makeup brushes with soap. Take a bar of soap,
hold it under running water and directly swirl it on the bar. Turn off the tap and swirl it on
your hand and let it lather up. Then rinse it under the water until the water runs clear.
Soaps are not really a good option for washing hair, so it is not much preferred. This is
why we will move on to the next method.
1. With some shampoo
Mild shampoos are great for cleaning makeup brushes. They not only cleanse the
bristles but also make them soft and glossy. Take a coin size amount of shampoo in
your palm and swirl the brushes in it (one brush at a time). Swirl it for a few seconds
and then rinse it with water.
1. With rubbing alcohol
Rubbing alcohol is good for disinfecting the brushes. Place the makeup brushes flat on
a paper towel. Then spray a little rubbing alcohol on the bristles and swirl it on the paper
towels. Repeat the process until all the product is removed—Pat off the excess alcohol
with a paper towel.
1. With micellar water
Cleaning the makeup brushes using micellar water. In a little container, take some
micellar water and soak the brushes for a few minutes. Let the makeup buildup break
off. Then clean it with paper towels. This method is not very effective with makeup
brushes used for foundation or dark eyeshadows.
How to dry the makeup brushes?
Drying the makeup brushes properly is also very important to maintain the shape of the
brushes. Blow drying is not a favored method. The hot air can destroy the bristles. The
best way is to let the brushes dry naturally. Put the clean makeup brushes in an upright
manner in a pencil holder or a glass and let them dry under the fan. Or, you can lie them
flat on a paper towel. This process of drying takes longer (about 4-5 hours) but result in
super-soft bristles.
