While it isundoubtedly special to say“I love you,” it is even morespecial to say “I love youbecause…”Here are some prompts that mighthelp you, adapted from my CalmChristmas zine:* Recount something they oncedid or said that made you laugh (ina good way, not at their expense)* Tell them something they oncedid or said that made you feel loved* Describe your favourite thingthat they do / make / cook / say* Remind them of a happy memorythat you share together* Tell them something they taughtyou that you really appreciate* Tell them about something youdeeply admire in them (and askthem to teach it to you)In your letter, resist the urge toinclude hidden morals or halfheartedcompliments. Don’t say“I love you even when you do Xbad thing,” just say “I love you.”Don’t say “It doesn’t matter whatother people think...” just tellthem the good things you think.Even if the caveats are true (theyprobably are - nobody is perfect!),leave them out of this letter.
