Education at Glasshouse 2021TERM 2GLASSHOUSE PORT MACQUARIE ANDPORT MACQUARIE-HASTINGS LIBRARIES PRESENTSSYDNEY WRITERS’FESTIVALLIVE & LOCALSydney Writers’ Festival returns to Port Macquarie in 2021.One of Australia’s best-loved forums for literature, ideas andstorytelling, Sydney Writers’ Festival will stream its headlineevents from Sydney direct to Players’ Theatre on Friday 30 April,Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 May.Students will be stimulated and engaged by conversations,debates and discussions, as the Festival brings the world’s finestauthors to them in real time. As well as hearing new ideas fromgreat thinkers, students have the opportunity to participate inQ&A sessions at each event, sending questions direct to theSydney stage.Students can book through the Education program. ARTIST BIO:Walker has been exhibiting for over thirty years. Her careerhas enjoyed the strong support of patrons Ann Lewis AO,Nick Waterlow, OAM and Julian Beaumont OAM. She holds aBachelor of Fine Arts from the National Art School, Sydney, andshe has also studied in Italy and travelled extensively. She wasa finalist in the Paddington Art Prize (2017, 2013, 2010, 2008)and winner of the prestigious Jacaranda Acquisitive DrawingAward (2014). Walker has held numerous exhibitions in bothSydney and Melbourne, and her work features in several majorpublic and corporate collections including Macquarie Bank,Australian Club, Sydney, Lismore Regional Gallery, TweedRegional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre and BathurstRegional Gallery, in addition to various private collections inAustralia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, the UnitedKingdom and the United States.GLASSHOUSE REGIONAL GALLERY PRESENTSARTIST IN RESIDENCE EXHIBITIONEMMA WALKERThe Gallery is dedicated to showcasing Australian contemporaryarts practice, creating opportunities for contemporary artists toconnect with our regional audiences and vice versa.Emma Walker consistently and evocatively engages with thenatural world, looking at the patterns and rhythms that recurin nature. Carving, sanding, digging, grinding, glazing, drippingand scratching into layered timber, the artist creates a uniqueprocess and approach to her sculptural wall paintings. Fromancient landscapes of sea, rock and sky to the microscopicpatterns and rhythms that power existence, her work movesbetween the micro and the macro in a formative dance. As muchabout the process of painting as they are with visually imprintingthe Australian environment, Walker’s unique imagery emergesfrom a combination of experimentation and automaticity, eachmark growing from the next in a catalytic reaction that emulatesthe geological occurrences that cause continents to move andshorelines to reshape, etching on the faces of rocks, rivers andravines.Our Artist in Residence program connects our community withvisiting artists.
