EHS activities and related awards<br />
Environment, Health and Safety<br />
CWT adopts a <strong>to</strong>p-down approach in ensuring our<br />
people work in a healthy and safe environment<br />
at all times whilst integrating environmental best<br />
practices in<strong>to</strong> our business.<br />
Our Environment, Health and Safety (EHS)<br />
Committee actively promotes a healthy work life<br />
and safe work place driven by our desire for an<br />
accident-free work space. Through education,<br />
enforcement and encouragement we continue <strong>to</strong><br />
instill in our employees individual and collective<br />
responsibility <strong>to</strong>wards this cause. In 2011 CWT<br />
invested more than 1,900 man hours on EHS<br />
training – an increase of 27% over <strong>the</strong> time<br />
invested last year. Our continued and increasing<br />
efforts <strong>to</strong> streng<strong>the</strong>n our safety culture will remain<br />
a <strong>to</strong>p priority.<br />
In addition we continue <strong>to</strong> be guided by<br />
our principles and activities in reducing <strong>the</strong><br />
environmental impact of our operations. Last<br />
year CWT Logistics Hub 3 was accredited with<br />
<strong>the</strong> Green Mark Gold Plus Award by <strong>the</strong> Building<br />
and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore<br />
for incorporating internationally recognised<br />
best practices in environmental design and<br />
performance. These included energy and<br />
water efficiency and savings, solar heat gain<br />
minimisation and good natural ventilation design,<br />
among o<strong>the</strong>r green features.<br />
CWT also received Achievement Awards in<br />
Distribution Code and Community Awareness<br />
and Emergency Response (CAER) for <strong>the</strong> third<br />
consecutive year in <strong>the</strong> Responsible Care Awards<br />
organised by <strong>the</strong> Singapore Chemical Industry<br />
Council (SCIC). Responsible Care is <strong>the</strong> chemical<br />
industry’s global initiative <strong>to</strong> continuously improve<br />
its operations in terms of health, safety and<br />
environmental standards.<br />
