It Must Be Vacation Time – Fr. Paul
We are experiencing some of the typical signs of vacation
in a Parish: There are a lot of left over bulletins,
the 9am and 11am Masses have less people than
usual (fewer hosts are being used and there are a few
more empty rows in the front), you can park closer to
the door, Liturgical Ministers such as Altar Servers and
Eucharistic Ministers are getting substitutes, and some
organizations cancel July meetings.
There are other signs that we are not on vacation: The
Men’s ACTS Retreat Program’s planning is going full
steam (and prayer) ahead, the Women’s Retreat has a
closing at this weekend’s 11am Mass, the Knights of
Columbus did not take a month off from their good
works, the St. Vincent DePaul Society continues its
support of the needy, the Pastoral Council is rebuilding
its agenda for the year, the Finance Committee is
(tongue in-check) printing money in the basement, the
number of folks attending daily Mass and weekly devotions
seems to be increasing, the Holy Cross Academy-Seven
Holy Founders Campus is going through a
smooth transition, and we have been able to conquer
the heat spells. Speaking of spells, my Cubs lost three
straight to the Cards.
Staff members have been in and out with days away.
There is no regular Priest help available yet for Sunday
or weekdays, so I am covering almost every Mass.
Thanks to Fr. Carl and Fr. Ed for what they have been
able to do in the interim. There are many weddings
coming up in August through October which means
that if I celebrate them, that will be three Masses for
me on a Saturday. I am planning an extended day off,
for three days in a row, to visit my family in Ohio the
early part of this week. In August, I will be a few days
away in California to attend a Memorial Service for my
sister-in-law, Margie, who passed away in May. I will
take the red-eye back to be here for the 11am on the
12 th . I will have to consult our local diocesan clergy to
see how they balance their week.
Remember in your prayers the victims of natural catastrophes
as well as the victims of war and violence such
as those who experienced the horror of Aurora CO.
Have a good week as we prepare for August.

St. Peregrine Healing Mass
And Rite of Anointing
The First Saturday of every month, the
8am is celebrated as a Healing Mass with
the Rite of Anointing, and blessing with
the relic of St. Peregrine. St. Peregrine is
the Patron Saint for those who suffer from
cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
All are most welcome to attend.

Eucharistic Holy Hour
On the First Friday of each month following
the 8am Mass, there is a Eucharistic Holy
Hour hosted by the Secular Order. Join us,
if you can, this Friday, August 3rd, as we
pray the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows and
then spend some quiet time in prayer.
Latin America Apostolate
Next weekend, August 4th & 5th, an envelope is included
in your packet of contribution envelopes for the Latin
America Apostolate. Monies collected help the presence
of our 5 St. Louis Priest Missionaries in Bolivia. Bolivia
continues to suffer from a severe shortage of native
priests. Due to great poverty in Bolivia, many people are
living in conditions we can barely imagine—without access
to clean water or sanitation or food. Our Missionaries
can only do what we make possible through our
prayers and sacrifices. Your generosity will be most appreciated.
