Assisting the College of undergraduate Studies with its ongoing marketing efforts, the Communications Office sent 70,000 postcards to the homes of high school juniors and seniors. In December, the division received notice that the long-awaited movie, The Mighty Macs, would have its opening on April 1, and the division moved forward with planning for the event with print ads, bus wraps, and a billboard on South I-95. A commemorative website was designed (www.yearofthemacs.com), which included historic photos, player biographies, rare game footage, the movie trailer, and key facts about the Macs’ championship years. The gala screening of The Mighty Macs at The Franklin Institute on March 29, 2011 became a sold-out event. That same week, campus screenings of the film were held for students, faculty and staff. Also, a special showing of The Mighty Macs was held at the university of Notre Dame as part of the weeklong celebration with Iu administration on-hand for a question and answer session and reception. Sony pictures later decided to invest more money into the distribution of the film, which translated to the purchase of more theaters for its release, now set for October 21, 2011. plans are under way for a formal world premiere on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at the Kimmel Center, to be hosted by Immaculata university, Sony pictures and Quaker Media. A new website for Iu has been designed with a fresh look, rewritten content, and additional pages for use by all constituents. Special advertising projects included an in-depth print campaign 6 IMMACULATA UNIVERSITY • 2010-2011 ANNUAL REPORT to strategic newspapers that reach the Hispanic population; ads in publications such as the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily Local News supporting a variety of events; and KyW Radio was used to promote graduate open houses and registration. The university also became the sole sponsor of the news covering the Beatification of John paul II on KyW Radio. Over 60 media outlets worldwide ran an article on Iu’s new cell phone photography course; the Wall Street Journal ran a feature on Duffy's Cut and USA today picked up Iu's story on new campus hydration stations. universitY AdvAncement The Office of university Advancement works to develop lasting relationships and communicate the mission of Immaculata, to foster good will and to increase support of education

opportunities for students. During 2011, there have been targeted efforts in cultivation, engagement, stewardship, solicitations, and personal contacts. A business model for the entire advancement program was created to pull together all components of a structurally sound and strategic operating plan to build a solid base of philanthropic support. The university Advancement Office raised more than $2.5 million for endowment, capital, restricted and operating funds, a 7.1 percent increase over 2010. Classes ending in 1s and 6s celebrated their reunion in 2011. Iu alumni philanthropic support to the university had a 34.3 percent increase in dollars, and a 30 percent increase in donors during this celebratory year. The Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Relations has continued to build relationships with local corporations, foundations, government organizations, and federal and state legislators. This year, the director’s primary efforts concentrated on grant writing and initiatives surrounding The Mighty Macs film. Golfers at the 35th Annual Immaculata Invitational at Stonewall, Elverson, PA. Grants awarded this year came from the Catholic philopatrian literary Institute; the W.W. Smith Charitable trust; the Avon Foundation for Women; the Chester County economic Development Council; the pennsylvania Department of Community and economic Development; and the pennsylvania Department of education. The 2010-11 academic year was the second year for the Office of Strategic Initiatives. The Director oversees specific projects to support university Advancement in all areas, and during the past year, these activities covered a wide array of projects, including the university’s Manual/ Handbook project. Initiatives for Academic Affairs included development and submission of the self-study for a new program in Athletic training, and for a new doctoral program in Higher education. In addition to assisting in various capital projects, providing support on personnel search committees and participating in the completion of grant and funding applications, the Office of Strategic Initiatives has collaborated with university Advancement members to maintain political support and awareness of the university in spite of the fact that federal earmarks were nonexistent this past year. Ongoing efforts were maintained with the Commonwealth of pennsylvania representatives for support of Immaculata. Fiscal year 2010-11 for the Immaculata Fund was highlighted by an increase in unrestricted giving over last year, and the acquisition of 244 new “unrestricted” donors. Collaboration with the Director of Major Gifts on Reunion Class giving resulted in total giving of $125,763 from Reunion Classes. The solicitation cycle included personalized mailings to all alumni, parents and friends, and efforts were made to better code each mailing to track solicitation efforts. A record number of members to the Heritage Society has been added over the last five years, with 127 current members. More than $230,000 has been received in 2010-11 in direct gifts to the endowment, plus six bequests totaling more than $401,000, bringing the total endowment amount to $14,669,929.66. The most significant increase was in the area of donor estate plans, with a total of $12,162,332.79. Quality faculty, loyal administration, and energized students eager to succeed converged successfully in producing another outstanding, productive year for Immaculata university. 2010-2011 ANNUAL REPORT * WWW.IMMACULATA.EDU 7
