OUR

2020ANNUAL REPORT CONTINUES

DANIELLE TIPS

PRESIDENT/CEO

What a year for Pathfinder Services! Our theme

for this year’s annual report and the mantra we

embraced since the COVID-19 pandemic first

hit is, “Our Mission Continues!”

It is hard to believe that the first few months

in my position as the new President and CEO

is leading to the conclusion of 54 years serving

people throughout northeast Indiana.

More than 400 dedicated employees have

continued to provide care for the thousands of

people we serve through these unprecedented

times with support and safety as our top

priorities. I have said many times already that

in difficult times, you are able to see who an

organization truly is and what they are capable of doing when

the need arises. Without a doubt, Pathfinder Services is an

amazing organization filled with selfless and compassionate

individuals.

As a not-for-profit that depends on donations and fundraising,

we have had to make some tough but necessary decisions

about our annual events, keeping open minds and coming up

with innovative ideas. I am proud of how we have not only been

able to quickly pivot to keep our events intact in some way, but

also keep our sponsors on board, and in some cases, have the

most successful events in our history.

We also have a lot of construction projects

this year, a tribute to the growth and success

of our organization. The new Lindley Street

group home was completed and occupied in

February. Landscaping that includes three new

trees being planted was finished this summer.

The expansion project at Kids Kampus is

coming along beautifully and will include four

new classrooms and an expanded kitchen and

laundry area. That project is expected to be

completed by the end of the year.

Our two projects in Wabash are also moving

along nicely. The new Half Street group home

is set to be complete in early December. The

hope is that inspections can be finished soon after and the ladies

who currently live at the Market Street property can move into

their new home in early 2021!

One of the biggest projects for Pathfinder Services is the brandnew

Wabash Office under construction. The facility will nearly

double the space of the old office, allowing for major growth

and new programming opportunities.

Of course, we could not do any of this without our dedicated

employees, generous assistance from our volunteers, and

people and organizations who continue to support Pathfinder

Services as members, donors, and collaborators. Thank you!

THE DREAM FUND BIKES

The Pathfinder Services Dream Fund helps make the dreams

of those we serve come true. Photos on social media of our

residents spending fun time outdoors prompted anonymous

donors to come forward to provide bicycles and adult tricycles

to our friends who do not currently have them.

Thanks to those donors, we have delivered nine bikes and

ordered nine more. Our hope is that this prompts others to

donate so everyone we serve who wants a bike gets one!

On June 18th, the guys at Cline Street took an inaugural ride to

Dairy Queen to enjoy a hot weather treat! The maiden voyage

was a huge success and the guys are looking forward to many

more rides in the future!

These dreams do not come true without the generosity of

people like you. Learn more at PathfinderServices.org

SURPRISE PARTY

100+ DREAMS COME TRUE

There have now been more than 100 dreams fulfilled with the

Dream Fund at Pathfinder Services thanks to generous donations

from businesses, private donors, and the AWS Foundation. Dreams

include attending sporting events, hot air balloon rides, a holiday

carriage ride…and most recently a concert and a birthday party!

Jennifer always wanted to have a birthday party with her friends,

so on January 31, we gave her a surprise party she will never forget!

Tears came to her eyes when she saw the pink and silver balloons,

cake, and decorations, and tables filled with friends.

We say thank you because these amazing experiences could not

happen without the generosity of others!

ABOVE AND BEYOND AN EASTER STORY

DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS ON THE FRONT LINES

We all know those at greatest risk for getting COVID-19 are frontline

workers. At Pathfinder Services, those are our Direct Support

Professionals. DSPs work in our group and waiver homes serving our

friends with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their jobs

became especially difficult with COVID-19 and shelter in place, as even

the smallest change for those we serve can be overwhelming. Our

DSPs have gone above and beyond!

Easter is a time of togetherness, family, and tradition. Not being able

to be together on a holiday is difficult for everyone. For those we serve,

it can be devastating.

As we saw, however, our DSPs made sure to celebrate all that is Easter.

They colored eggs, hunted eggs, and sent Easter messages in sidewalk

chalk.

Another example came from Chris West. We serve her sister Stephanie,

who couldn’t stop crying when she was told she wouldn’t be able to

celebrate Easter with her family. Chris shared, with her own tears, how

the DSPs in Stephanie’s house surprised her with an Easter Basket,

let her borrow their phones so she could interact with her family on

Facetime, and even made sure Stephanie had her favorite dinner of

ham, sweet potato casserole, and green bean casserole. Chris says she

is beyond grateful to the DSPs and all they do to help her sister and

others thrive in this time of uncertainty.

If being a DSP sounds like a job you or someone you know would be

interested in, we are always hiring!

THE PRESCHOOL GRADUATION PARADE

A KIDS KAMPUS NEW NORMAL

Like high school and college graduations here at home and across the country

in 2020, COVID-19 also affected our annual Kids Kampus Spring Program and

Preschool Graduation at Pathfinder Services. We had to cancel the program for the

health and safety of everyone involved. Like many other events this year, we had

to find a new way to honor our graduates and celebrate this important milestone.

The Marketing and Development and Kids Kampus teams decided the best way

to celebrate was with a no contact parade on Friday evening, June 12th. Parents,

caregivers, friends, relatives, and community members were invited to decorate

their vehicles and make banners and signs to congratulate the graduates.

The response was overwhelming and a huge success! More than 100 vehicles lined

up in the Huntington University parking lot ready to support their little ones. The

Huntington City Fire Department led the way through the Kids Kampus parking

lot with a big fire engine with lights and sirens running. The kids, dressed in their

graduation caps and holding their diplomas, were lined up outside and cheered on

by vehicle after vehicle. It was a great sight to see!

We congratulate all our preschool graduates and wish them a fantastic year in

kindergarten! To learn more about Kids Kampus, visit KidsKampus.org

INDEPENDENT SCENTS CANDLES

THROUGH OUTSOURCE MANUFACTURING

In January of this year, the OutSource Manufacturing (OSM)

Division of Pathfinder Services launched a new product line

with the release of Independent Scents Candles.

Independent Scents candles are 100% soy wax and are produced

by the team at OSM. OSM provides employment and support for

adults with developmental disabilities seeking independence

and inclusion in the community.

Each scent was chosen by and named for the workers who

produce the candles.

There are currently 16 scents available for purchase. The scents

will change seasonally. These exceptional candles are available

in 4-ounce, 8-ounce, and 16-ounce jars, and 6-piece wax melt

packages.

Independent Scents also offers fundraising opportunities and

delivery is free for orders of $50.00 or more.

For more information about Independent Scents Candles or to place

an order, please visit our website at
