From the Director
I have written all my life. Journals, poems, short stories, plays, and most of them are hidden away or unfinished. Why?
Because writing is an art and art is vulnerable. And the fear of sharing part of your heart and identity with someone and
having them judge, criticize, and dislike it can be paralyzing. So when an idea for a song popped in my head and I thought
maybe it could develop into a full-length musical, I never imagined it actually happening. Would I have time? Who am I to
write a whole musical? What if I can’t do it? And the biggest doubt of all: Would it be any good?
All of these doubts are usually why I don’t finish writing something, but this time, I felt like maybe this idea, this nudge from
God, was different. But in my insecurity, I asked God for confirmation. I really don’t like how things go when I try to do them
on my own.
I took a big step and shared this nudge with a friend. This friend happened to have a grant to give, which made it financially
possible for this musical to happen and gave me a deadline. Confirmation number 1. I wrote the opening number in thirty
minutes, and less than a week later, I had written another song almost as quickly. Confirmation number 2. I was in the
process of figuring out story ideas and COVID-19 hit. And believe it or not, that was confirmation number 3. Suddenly I had
nothing but time. God said, “I’ve cleared your schedule – now get to work!” And I had time to brainstorm, plot out the story,
rework the story, write dialogue, rewrite dialogue, submit it to some trusted friends for feedback, rework the story again…
well, you get the picture. I had time to journey through confidence and insecurity, let go of things I loved that weren’t working
and push myself to discover the things I didn’t know.
Regardless of all the confirmation, it is scary and vulnerable to write. I have friends who have challenged me to accept and
celebrate that what I’m doing is brave. And I’m trying to see it that way. But mostly, I just feel honored. Honored that God
would create time, space, and an outlet for me to make sense of the hard things of my life. Honored that this school would
support a brand-new work, unseen and unheard. Honored that these amazing students would be so encouraging to me and
excited to bring an unknown show to life. And honored that a little girl who grew up dreaming she would be on Broadway
has been given so much more than she thought she wanted. God has been writing my story this whole time.
I am dedicating this show to all of the teenagers I have met over the years, the ones I have yet to meet, and the ones I will
never encounter. But this story isn’t just for them. It’s for anyone who needs to be reminded that there is One who is writing
your story.
Spoiler alert – it’s a love story.

Cast
Gabe Hoyer (JESSE MANUEL) Guest Actor.
Gabe is a 2015 CHCA alumnus and
is thrilled to be making his return to
the stage that helped spark his love
for performing! Past CHCA theatre
appearances include Children of
Eden (Father), Macbeth (Macbeth)
and West Side Story (Riff). After his
time at CHCA, Gabe got his degree
in musical theatre from Belmont University (‘19). Gabe thanks
Susan Jung for bringing him back to the CHCA stage and
hopes you are moved by this powerful story!
Tobi Aina (JOSH/PARKER/ENSEMBLE)
Tobi is a ninth grader and has been at
CHCA for four years. He has been in
several musicals including: Suessical
(Horton), The Lion King JR. (Rafiki),
Mary Poppins JR. (George Banks),
Godspell JR. (Jesus) and most
recently, Footloose (ensemble). He
is looking forward to his fifth theatre
production with CHCA, and dedicates this performance first
to God for blessing him with gifts and talents; to all his musical
and theatrical directors for helping him develop those
talents; and the privilege to get to share them.
Jireh Burton (JR – JETT/ENSEMBLE)
Jireh is a senior and is excited to
perform in his final season in high
school theatre. He recently showed
off his dance skills as Ren
McCormack in Footloose, and has
also appeared in The Complete
Works of William Shakespeare
(abridged) (Othello/various), James
and the Giant Peach (Buzz/Vagrant) and Les Misérables
– Student Edition (Grantaire) to name a few. Jireh also
expresses his love for the arts through his involvement in
Electric Jazz Orchestra, Encore, chapel band, pep band and
the improv troupe, Off the Cuff. When not on stage or in the
classroom, Jireh enjoys listening to all types of music, playing
drums, dancing, watching anime and spending time with
family and friends. Jireh dedicates this performance to Mrs.
Lisa Paris and the Paris family. Rest in Heaven Mrs. Paris.
Mackenzie Carnes (CARIS MANUEL)
Mackenzie is so excited to start off
her senior year in theatre as part of
this special CHCA world premiere
production. Some of her best
memories of high school are on this
stage. She thanks Susan for
believing in her and giving
her a place in the CHCA theatre
family. It is an honor to be part of bringing Susan's work to
the stage.
Reese Clary (GIRL/ENSEMBLE)
Reese Clary is a sophomore and
excited to be a part of Reckless.
She has taken part in eight other
CHCA shows since fifth grade. Aside
from theatre, Reese loves reading,
playing piano, and hanging out with
her friends. She dedicates this
performance to God and to her family.
Lauren Detling (SOLOIST/ENSEMBLE)
Lauren is a freshman and is excited
to participate in her second production.
While in eighth grade, she was
in the cast of Godspell JR. This is her
second year attending CHCA and she
enjoys all the opportunities there are
to be involved. In addition to theatre,
she is involved in band and has been
on the volleyball and softball teams.
Marlana Doepker (SOLOIST/ENSEMBLE)
Marlana is a freshman and is thrilled
to be performing in her first ever high
school production. Her previous
shows include Madagascar JR., The
Lion King JR., Mary Poppins JR. and
Godspell JR. When not performing,
she enjoys traveling, singing and
spending time with her friends and
family. She dedicates this performance to her parents.

DANCER #3/ENSEMBLE)
Abby is a freshman and is excited
to be a part of the fall production.
While at CHCA, she has been in
James and the Giant Peach;
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown;
Godspell JR.; Mary Poppins JR.;
The Lion King JR.; and Madagascar
JR. Outside of theatre, Abby is a cheerleader and competitive
dancer. She also partakes in CHCA Robotics and takes
voice lessons at the Musical Arts Center. She dedicates this
performance to God, her family, and friends!
CHLOE GRIFFOR (CLEO/ENSEMBLE)
Chloe is a senior who feels privileged
to have been involved as an
actor and hairstylist in CHCA's
productions since her freshman year.
Her most recent roles were as
Prostitute 1 in Les Misérables –
Student Edition and Vi Moore in
Footloose. When she is not studying,
she enjoys watersports, singing, creative writing, playing the
piano and art projects. She also works for a dog breeder and a
hair salon. Chloe is very thankful for the opportunity to learn
and perform in the rich fine arts environment at CHCA.
ANNA KATE GAGE (J AD#2/ENSEMBLE)
Anna Kate Gage is a ninth grader
enjoying her second year at CHCA.
Outside of school, she likes to stay
active by doing gymnastics. She
loves creating music and playing
ukulele and piano. She also enjoys
being a part of Concert Choir. She
has participated in many productions
such as Robin Hood (ensemble), summer musical camps,
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Mr. Tumnus) and
most recently Godspell JR. (ensemble). Anna Kate thanks
CHCA and her family for giving her so many opportunities.
TYLER GAGE (ZACH/DANNY/ENSEMBLE)
Tyler is a sophomore and is super
exited to be part of the Reckless
cast. This is his fourth production
at CHCA with his latest being
Footloose this past spring. He has
been in The Lion King KIDS, The
Complete Works of William
Shakespeare (abridged) and The
One Act. He helped build sets for the James and the Giant
Peach production also. Besides theatre, he plays two sports:
soccer and lacrosse. He loves to travel to new places and
is very adventurous. He dedicates the show to his loving
parents, brother, and sister.
ELLA HANSELL (SOLOIST/ENSEMBLE)
Being a part of the theatre program
brings Ella so much joy and she
hopes that her performance brings
joy to the audience too. Ella has been
in a range of outstanding productions
from The Lion King JR. to Mary
Poppins JR. She is thankful for all
the work that the Jungs and the
community put into making these happen.
HENRY HEIMLICH (DANIEL/HANK/
ENSEMBLE)
Henry is a junior whose previous
performances include The Complete
Works of William Shakespeare
(abridged) and Footloose. Henry is
a member of the Student Production
Team, is a first-degree black belt in
Kajukenbo and is a twice-published
editorial writer in The Cincinnati Enquirer. Every year Henry
“performs” stand-up comedy at ArtBeat.

Kendyl is a sophomore and is
thrilled to be making her CHCA
stage debut this fall. She has
participated in productions such
as, Bye Bye Birdie JR., Horizons of
Gold, Singing in the Rain JR. and
Beauty and the Beast JR. (Belle).
In addition to her love of musical
theatre, Kendyl enjoys singing and playing the acoustic
guitar. She thanks friends and family for their support as
well as CHCA for this opportunity.
ZHIYAN (CAROLINE) HUANG
(BABYLON DANCER #2
/ENSEMBLE)
Caroline Huang is a junior. She likes
dancing and theatre. Caroline was
in Footloose and James and the
Giant Peach. She is looking forward
to the 2020-2021 theatre season
at CHCA.
NATALIE HUDEPOHL
(JORDAN/ENSEMBLE)
Natalie is in the ninth grade and is
very excited to be in her first
theatre production at CHCA. She
has performed with The Children’s
Theater STAR Program, Sharonville
Players, Wyoming Fine Arts and
the Cincinnati Pops. Her favorite
productions include Annie JR. (Molly), The Little Mermaid
JR. (Flounder), Hairspray JR. (Brenda) and many more!
Natalie is also a member of the Young Artists Preparatory
Program at the Musical Arts Center (MAC). She thanks her
family, teachers and MAC for helping her pave her future in
the fine arts!
NOAH MCREDMOND (FAST FOOD GUY
/LOGAN/ENSEMBLE)
Noah is a freshman, and this is his
fourth CHCA Upper School production.
He previously appeared in James and
the Giant Peach, Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
and Footloose. Noah loves to sing,
listen to 80's music, and play his
trombone in the band. He enjoys hanging out with his friends,
playing baseball, watching sports and is a roller coaster
junkie! Noah thanks his mom and dad for their unconditional
love and support and dedicates this performance to his
extended family and friends.
CARLEY MILLETTE(BF AD/BABYLON
DANCER #1 /ENSEMBLE)
Carley is a sophomore and is so
excited to be a part of Reckless!
Previously, you may have seen her
in Heathers: The Musical (MTV Girl/
Officer Milner), Newsies (Romeo),
Young Frankenstein (Victor)
and Footloose (teen ensemble).
She thanks every director and teacher that she has had for
helping her grow and to become the person that she is today.
EVA MILLIGAN (AWKWARD DUO #1
/JOSIE/ENSEMBLE)
Eva is a senior and is very excited to
be a part of this brand-new show!
Eva participates in Encore and
Off the Cuff and has enjoyed her
various roles with the CHCA theatre
department including the Earthworm
in last fall's James and the Giant
Peach and Ethel in Footloose. Eva thanks her family for their

Claire is a junior and is happy to

Andrew is a ninth grader. He has

University of Cincinnati's CCM
Prep program and now at the
Musical Arts Center. Some of

and the Giant Peach and the Cincinnati Opera's Turandot.

GIANNA RODRIGUEZ (HANNAH

Gianna is excited to be a part of

been part of the theatre department

MATTHEW SAXBY(DEVIN/ELI/ENSEMBLE)
Matthew is a senior and is very

He has enjoyed being a part of
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat, Les Misérables –
Student Edition and Footloose in
previous years. Matthew loves
playing sports with his friends and
is playing golf this year. He dedicates this performance to his
friends and Leo his dog.
LORENA SCHARDONG (RAVEN/BABY-
LON DANCER #4 /ENSEMBLE
Lorena is delighted to be a part of
the premiere of Reckless. Lorena
loves all aspects of performing and
can be seen in theatre, musical, choir
and dance productions. She is a
dedicated competitor and athlete.
When she is not on stage, you will
find her rehearsing with CHCA's competitive dance team,
or CHCA's cheer squad. Lorena thanks Mrs. Jung and Coach
Kidd for pouring into her life and inspiring her to step out of
her comfort zone and search for ways to improve her craft.

Abbie is new to CHCA this year but
has enjoyed being part of other
productions including Cinderfella,
The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan.
In her free time, she enjoys art and
reading. She sends special thanks
to all of her past directors and cast
mates. She also thanks all of her family and friends for their
love and support.
KATE SHIELDS (MIA MANUEL)
Kate is elated to be a part of this
production. She has been involved
in the theatre department here at
CHCA for four years. Now a senior,
she is beyond thankful for the
opportunities and unconditional love
she has received from Susan over
the last few years. High school
would be empty without the beautiful family she has come
to know so well through this department. Being a part of an
original musical has been incredible for her, and she hopes
you enjoy the show and can use it as an escape from the
craziness that is the state of our world right now.
KYLA TURVEY(SOLOIST/ENSEMBLE)
As a freshman, Kyla is thankful to
have spent the past four years as
part of the many CHCA Founders'
Campus productions and is excited to
now be joining more high school
performances. Her previous CHCA
shows include the The One Act –
Online, James and the Giant Peach
Mrs. Trotter/ensemble), Mary Poppins JR. (Von Hussler), The
Lion King JR. (Jungle/Savannah ensembles) and Madagascar
JR. (Lemur). She enjoys anything creative and singing in the
praise band at her church. Kyla is thankful for everyone's

ABBY VAN JURA
(MEDMART AD/J AD1/ENSEMBLE)
Abby is a junior and is very excited
to take part in the fall production of
Reckless. She has been part of theatre
shows before, such as Les Misérables-
Student Edition, and had so much fun.
Aside from performing, Abby is a
part of Encore and loves to sing and
play piano. She dedicates her performance to God, her family,
and CHCA.
COLIN SWAYZE (BRODY BYRD/ENSEMBLE)
Colin is a junior and is very excited
to be performing in his fifth
production here at CHCA. Colin has
previously appeared on stage as
Gavroche in Les Misérables –
Student Edition, as Ladahlord in
James and the Giant Peach and
is thrilled to be back for Reckless.
He is a proud member of CHCA's pep band, playing the
trombone. He is also is a competitive rock climber. Colin
gives a big shout out to his amazing parents and grandparents
who have supported him in theatre.
HAILEY WILLIAMS (FARRAH/ENSEMBLE)
Hailey has enjoyed many years of
performing with CHCA's theatre
department. She is thankful for the
opportunity to do what she loves
with her friends on stage. She looks

Charleigh is a ninth grader and is

high school theatre program. She is
heavily involved in school as well
as outside theatre productions
including Godspell JR. (Disciple),
James and the Giant Peach
(ensemble), Frozen JR. (Middle Anna, Snow Chorus), Aladdin
JR. (Omar), The Lion King JR. (Zazu, Bonzai) and many
others. She also enjoys helping build the sets with her dad.
She is looking forward to a fantastic year in theatre!
ELLE ZIEGENFUSS (DOCTOR RAPHAEL
/ENSEMBLE)
Elle is a sophomore and is excited
to be a part of the theatre program
once again! She made her CHCA
debut in James and the Giant
Peach and Footloose. She has
previously performed with Mason
Theater, Mount Notre Dame
Theater and Royal Theatre. Her favorite roles include Ti
Moune in Once on This Island and Nala in The Lion King.
These and various others set the stage for new experiences
with CHCA. Elle is grateful every day that God gave the
gift of music and creativity as a way of honoring Him.

Ninth-grader Kate is new to CHCA.
She is extremely excited to be a

fostered her love for the stage.

LAINEY ZURCHER (SOLOIST/ENSEMBLE)
Lainey is a freshman, and this is her
first year at CHCA. She is excited
to be joining this amazing theatre
program in the premiere of
Reckless. Her favorite productions
she has been involved in are The
Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
(White Witch) and Robin Hood.
Lainey also loves to play sports, write and be with her

VICKI REZMAN (STAGE MANAGER)
This is Vicki’s senior year in high
school and her second-year stage
managing for the CHCA theatre
program. She is extremely grateful
to Susan and Jim Jung and Grace
Vanderwoude ‘19 and credits them

she has now. While no high school
year is complete without any bumps in the road, she feels
those bumps have made her years all the better. Theatre
provided Vicki with something to live for throughout high
school, and it became a home in a foreign place her first
year at CHCA. She thanks all of her crew, Susan, Jim and
Grace for allowing her to grow in that space and for growing
along with her.

Directors' Bios
SUSAN JUNG
ARTISTIC THEATRE DIRECTOR GR 4-12,
THEATRE DIRECTOR AND CHOREOGRAPHER GR 9-12
Susan is in her 15th year as the Director, 20th year as Choreographer for the Cincinnati
Hills Christian Academy Theatre Department, and 19th year as Director of the CHCA improv
team, Off the Cuff. With over 25 years in the business, she taught musical theatre dance
and acting for CCM prep and Playhouse in the Park, has led or taught over 30 musical theatre
camps, and is one of the stage directors for the Christmas show “Awaited.” As a writer, she
has written several plays and musicals that have been performed in Ohio, Tennessee, Arizona,
and Utah. This is her first full length musical for young adults. She has won an Acclaim Award, as well as several local
acting and choreography awards, and was an Overture Finalist for Theatre Education. Susan maintains her professional
acting career with regional and national commercials, print ads, voice-overs, as well as performing nationally and
internationally with Friends of the Groom, Acts of Renewal, and Murder and Merriment. Susan has also performed
professionally with local theatres, TCTC and WFIT, and holds a B.A. in theatre from Northern Kentucky University
where she met her husband Jim, with whom she has three sons.
JIM JUNG
THEATER MANAGER/TECHNICAL DIRECTOR/SET AND LIGHTING DESIGNER
Jim is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University with a BFA in musical theater performance.
He occasionally performs with Friends of the Groom Theater Company and has performed for
churches and conferences in 16 different states. Jim served as the CHCA Technical Director
from January of 2001 – August of 2005, and then took the role back in May of 2016. In the
interim, Jim spent many years on corporate audio-visual projects, worked for Crossroads
as Environments Director, for At Home Integrations as a systems installer, and for Milford
schools in IT. In his early years as the TD, he not only did the sets, lights, and sound, but also
had the privilege of directing several shows – specifically Steel Magnolias and The Diary of Anne Frank. Since then, he
has been designing and leading volunteers to build sets for CHCA’s Grade 6-8 musicals and running sound at ArtBeat
Avenue Theater. He is thrilled to be at CHCA, where he gets to work alongside his wife, be closer to his kids throughout
the day, and build into others. He would like to thank God for being his inspiration and his family for putting up with the
crazy schedule.
