DAR, SAR named
Ricci Arcay and Sam Howie are
the recipients of the Good Citizen
awards from the Daughters of the
American Revolution (DAR) and
Sons of the American Revolution
(SAR).
These awards, some of the most
prestigious at OHS, are given annually
to two seniors.
The awards are based on the
qualities of dependability, service,
leadership, and patriotism. The
faculty and staff narrow the list of
candidates and the senior class selects
the final winner.
The awards come with scholarship
opportunities, speaking opportunities,
banquets, and other
perks.
Morris qualifies for Sectional
Allie Morris and Macie Russell both qualified
for the Sectional cross country meet after
a successful Regional race.
The Sectional will be in Decatur at Hickory
Point Golf Course.
Both Morris and Russell, and Mackenzie
Russell also earned All-Vermilion County
honors with their race on Tuesday. The Russell
sisters are Salt Fork students.
This is the second year in a row that Morris
has earned All-County.
Good luck at Sectional!

OAKWOOD
Comets win School Spirit Showdown
The Oakwood Comets have once again shown their
outstanding school spirit by taking home the inaugural
School Spirit Showdown over Salt Fork.
“The students and community continue to rise to the
occasion when it comes to school spirt and support,”
said Principal Tim Lee. “We are excited to take home
the trophy!”
For winning, OHS will receive the School Spirit
Showdown Trophy and $1000.
The Comets defeated Georgetown-Ridge Farm, St.
Joseph-Ogden, BHRA, Heritage, and Salt Fork to take
the title. In the championship match, Oakwood won
4945-4846.
Each week, OHS and its supporters not only won
their matchup but also had the overall highest vote totals.
Those high vote totals allowed them to squeak out
victories over SJO (12 votes), BHRA (11 votes), and
Salt Fork.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Lee, “and it brought some
excitement to the building and the community at a time
when we are missing that.”
To encourage voting, the school used social media,
daily announcements, and a variety of other methods
to get out the Comet vote. Lee even promised a TikTok
video if Oakwood won in the championship round.
The Illini Radio Group (WIXY, Rewind 92.5, Mix
94.5) started the bracket tourney of local high school
backs in September. The tournament matched two
teams against each other in a round of weekly voting.
