Poots is an embarrassment, time to go?

Well he did it, he finally did it... Edwin Poots managed to sectarianize a global pandemic. It's 'themmuns', it's...always... 'themmuns'. What will it take to rid us of these dinosaurs who sit in public office and use their platform to spout bigotry? Enough is enough - and Poots should resign!

<strong>Poots</strong> <strong>is</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>embarrassment</strong>, <strong>time</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>go</strong>!<br />

IN the week that the North<br />

went in<strong>to</strong> a series of <strong>to</strong>ugher restrictions<br />

<strong>an</strong>d the South have just<br />

entered the highest possible restrictions<br />

we were exposed <strong>to</strong> <strong>an</strong><br />

outburst from a politici<strong>an</strong> that<br />

would shame the Devil himself.<br />

Edwin <strong>Poots</strong> the long serving<br />

DUP stalwart couldn’t be restrained<br />

last week by executive<br />

procedures.<br />

We had just been <strong>to</strong>ld of new<br />

restrictions on movement <strong>an</strong>d<br />

trade in order <strong>to</strong> deal with a spike<br />

in coronavirus, a move which<br />

was un<strong>an</strong>imously endorsed at the<br />

5-party executive meeting, when<br />

Edwin went on a solo run in various<br />

media outlets blaming the<br />

spike on the Catholic/National<strong>is</strong>t<br />

community here.<br />

He said that the prevalence of<br />

Covid -19 was 6:1 higher in national<strong>is</strong>t<br />

areas.<br />

He might as well have said it<br />

was a Catholic d<strong>is</strong>ease.<br />

H<strong>is</strong> words were spoken with a<br />

venom we have not seen here<br />

since Willie McCrea appeared on<br />

the back of a lorry <strong>to</strong> show solidarity<br />

with Billy Wright.<br />

H<strong>is</strong> remarks were so shocking<br />

that Steve Aiken the leader of the<br />

UUP has called on <strong>Poots</strong> <strong>to</strong> resign<br />

<strong>go</strong>ing much further th<strong>an</strong> others<br />

For Peace, Independence <strong>an</strong>d Social<strong>is</strong>m<br />

By Mel Corry<br />

who would settle for <strong>an</strong> apology.<br />

<strong>Poots</strong> was supported on the BBC<br />

politics programme on Sunday by<br />

h<strong>is</strong> mate Peter Weir.<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> points <strong>to</strong> a serious div<strong>is</strong>ion<br />

in the DUP r<strong>an</strong>ks <strong>an</strong>d the undermining<br />

of Arlene Foster’s leadership.<br />

For her part she admitted that if<br />

the DUP were <strong>go</strong>verning on their<br />

own then they would likely have<br />

not introduced the restrictions.<br />

Commenta<strong>to</strong>rs have pointed <strong>to</strong> a<br />

major rift within the party with<br />

some concerns being expressed by<br />

the party’s MPs at Westminster.<br />

There <strong>is</strong> a greater problem bubbling<br />

under the surface <strong>an</strong>d that <strong>is</strong><br />

the viability of the <strong>go</strong>vernmental<br />

arr<strong>an</strong>gements when m<strong>an</strong>y senior<br />

members of the DUP still hold <strong>to</strong><br />

views that demon<strong>is</strong>e the National<strong>is</strong>t/Catholic<br />

community.<br />

How c<strong>an</strong> the executive effectively<br />

m<strong>an</strong>age the arr<strong>an</strong>gements for keeping<br />

people safe <strong>an</strong>d well when it<br />

has among its members people<br />

who do not accept <strong>an</strong>y scientific<br />

rationale <strong>an</strong>d believe that the P<strong>an</strong>demic<br />

<strong>is</strong> some sort of medieval retribution<br />

for the sins of Popery.<br />

<strong>Poots</strong> defended h<strong>is</strong> remarks by<br />

saying that they weren’t sectari<strong>an</strong><br />

as m<strong>an</strong>y senior Sinn Fein members<br />

didn’t attend Church on Sunday, I<br />

despair.<br />

Whilst other politici<strong>an</strong>s have made<br />

gaffs <strong>an</strong>d occasionally get themselves<br />

in<strong>to</strong> hot water with their behaviour<br />

not m<strong>an</strong>y have d<strong>is</strong>played<br />

such naked sectari<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>m <strong>an</strong>d contempt<br />

for a whole community as<br />

Edwin <strong>Poots</strong>.<br />

As m<strong>an</strong>y people become accus<strong>to</strong>med<br />

<strong>to</strong> the latest restrictions in <strong>an</strong><br />

effort <strong>to</strong> bring case numbers down<br />

the very ability of the S<strong>to</strong>rmont executive<br />

<strong>to</strong> deliver on a whole r<strong>an</strong>ge<br />

of equality <strong>is</strong>sues <strong>is</strong> seriously in<br />

question.<br />

The failure <strong>to</strong> deal with sectari<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>m<br />

since the implementation of the<br />

GFA h<strong>an</strong>gs over society here on a<br />

daily bas<strong>is</strong>.<br />

Ignoring th<strong>is</strong> kind of bi<strong>go</strong>try <strong>is</strong> no<br />

longer <strong>an</strong> option.<br />

When public figures are allowed <strong>to</strong><br />

make such outrageous pronouncements,<br />

they should be subject <strong>to</strong> the<br />

ri<strong>go</strong>urs of the law.<br />

If a member of the public had used<br />

the same kind of rhe<strong>to</strong>ric using rac<strong>is</strong>t<br />

or homophobic examples it<br />

would be considered a hate crime.<br />

M<strong>an</strong>y will need no convincing that<br />

people like <strong>Poots</strong> are <strong>an</strong> impediment<br />

<strong>to</strong> the well being of people here,<br />

even those he represents, hastening<br />

the day he dreads, the re-unification<br />

of Irel<strong>an</strong>d.

Independence <strong>an</strong>d membership of<br />

the EU are incompatible<br />

A RECENT opinion poll on the <strong>is</strong>sue of Scott<strong>is</strong>h independence<br />

showed that out of 1,045 people surveyed, 58 per cent were in<br />

favour of leaving the United Kingdom. It <strong>go</strong>es without saying that<br />

some of those polled could have been influenced by the fact that at<br />

th<strong>is</strong> <strong>time</strong> they are being <strong>go</strong>verned by a Johnson-led Tory<br />

<strong>go</strong>vernment at Westminster <strong>an</strong>d see independence as a way out of<br />

that situation. These were the thoughts of SNP deputy leader Keith<br />

Brown who talked of a “Westminster system which treats Scotl<strong>an</strong>d<br />

as <strong>an</strong> afterthought.”<br />

As we know similar comments are levelled at the Brit<strong>is</strong>h<br />

<strong>go</strong>vernment in regard <strong>to</strong> the situation here.<br />

To m<strong>an</strong>y national<strong>is</strong>ts <strong>an</strong>d republic<strong>an</strong>s here the poll will be music<br />

<strong>to</strong> their ears as they would see the break up of the UK as not only<br />

enh<strong>an</strong>cing the ch<strong>an</strong>ces of a united Irel<strong>an</strong>d but also of keeping the<br />

north in the Europe<strong>an</strong> Union.<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> then <strong>is</strong> where the so-called independence movements are<br />

seen <strong>to</strong> be walking contradictions as membership of the EU takes<br />

away <strong>an</strong>y idea of independence. That <strong>is</strong> what the EU <strong>is</strong> all about<br />

but no matter how m<strong>an</strong>y <strong>time</strong>s th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong> spelled out all of them ignore<br />

it.<br />

In a recent statement Roz<strong>an</strong>ne Foyer, General Secretary of the<br />

Scott<strong>is</strong>h TUC, in response <strong>to</strong> the Internal Market Bill, claimed it<br />

would “hamper the ability of devolved <strong>go</strong>vernments <strong>to</strong> leg<strong>is</strong>late<br />

independently <strong>an</strong>d set their own policy direction separate from a<br />

Tory Brexit agenda at Westminster.”<br />

However, Commun<strong>is</strong>t Party of Britain international secretary,<br />

John Foster, writing in the Morning Star stated that the reason<br />

trade union<strong>is</strong>ts in Scotl<strong>an</strong>d campaigned for a Scott<strong>is</strong>h Parliament<br />

was that it would enable them <strong>to</strong> do something about industrial<br />

decline, promote strategic investment <strong>an</strong>d economic selfdetermination.<br />

Whilst these powers were secured in 1998 Foster writes that they<br />

were quickly overridden by EU state aid rules. He gives the example<br />

of the situation at Rolls Royce in Inchinn<strong>an</strong> when Nicola Sturgeon<br />

declined <strong>to</strong> intervene <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p its closure, stating “we have <strong>to</strong> operate<br />

within state aid rules.”<br />

Independence <strong>an</strong>d membership of the EU are incompatible.<br />

Those who think otherw<strong>is</strong>e are deluding themselves.<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> was <strong>an</strong> Interactive Courtroom<br />

case of the founder of WikiLeaks<br />

Juli<strong>an</strong> Ass<strong>an</strong>ge.<br />

It was drawing attention <strong>to</strong> the fact<br />

that the trial <strong>is</strong> on at the minute in<br />

London, a fact that the capital<strong>is</strong>t media<br />

are ignoring.<br />

The Morning Star carried <strong>an</strong> Open<br />

Letter <strong>to</strong> the Guardi<strong>an</strong> on Ass<strong>an</strong>ge, on<br />

the 15th of Oc<strong>to</strong>ber, stating that “the<br />

Guardi<strong>an</strong> should h<strong>an</strong>g its head in<br />

shame as their readers would not know”<br />

that the case was proceeding.<br />

In addition “the Guardi<strong>an</strong> has benefited<br />

enormously from WikiLeaks front<br />

page headlines <strong>an</strong>d a book.”<br />

It was pointed out that Ass<strong>an</strong>ge had<br />

revealed war crimes such as the air raid<br />

in Iraq that killed 12 Iraq<strong>is</strong> <strong>an</strong>d two<br />

Reuters journal<strong>is</strong>ts, that was falsely<br />

portrayed as a firefight.”<br />

Poverty not religion<br />

THE DUP Agriculture Min<strong>is</strong>ter<br />

Edwin <strong>Poots</strong> was strongly critic<strong>is</strong>ed<br />

after suggesting that national<strong>is</strong>t<br />

areas of Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d<br />

have more cases of Covid-<br />

19 th<strong>an</strong> union<strong>is</strong>t areas by a ratio<br />

of six <strong>to</strong> one, with Derry <strong>an</strong>d<br />

Strab<strong>an</strong>e in the east, being 10<br />

<strong>time</strong>s higher th<strong>an</strong> Mid <strong>an</strong>d East<br />

Antrim while L<strong>is</strong>burn/ Castlereagh<br />

<strong>an</strong>d North Down in the west<br />

were considerably lower.<br />

There <strong>is</strong> no evidence that Covid-19<br />

differentiates between people’s religion<br />

but there <strong>is</strong> evidence that shows a<br />

key fac<strong>to</strong>r in the spreading of the virus<br />

<strong>is</strong> that people living in socially<br />

deprived areas are more susceptible <strong>to</strong><br />

the virus, th<strong>an</strong> those living in affluent<br />

areas.<br />

The Derry <strong>an</strong>d Strab<strong>an</strong>e constituency<br />

<strong>is</strong> one of the most affected d<strong>is</strong>tricts<br />

by the virus, it <strong>is</strong> also one of the<br />

most deprived places in Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d.<br />

Counties west of the B<strong>an</strong>n river<br />

which includes Derry <strong>an</strong>d Strab<strong>an</strong>e,<br />

firms in<strong>to</strong> Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d;<br />

but official <strong>go</strong>vernment dec<strong>is</strong>ions<br />

had the effect of accelerating the<br />

economic deterioration of the west.<br />

Under th<strong>is</strong> regeneration, seventyseven<br />

firms were establ<strong>is</strong>hed in<br />

Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d, with 45 per cent<br />

gr<strong>an</strong>t, of the cost of pl<strong>an</strong>t, machinery<br />

in the east, these are just few examples<br />

of S<strong>to</strong>rmont’s failures.<br />

No one including Edwin <strong>Poots</strong><br />

would claim the rapid r<strong>is</strong>e in Covid-<br />

19 cases in cities across the north of<br />

Engl<strong>an</strong>d <strong>an</strong>d Scotl<strong>an</strong>d were due <strong>to</strong><br />

religious persuasion, the evidence<br />

points <strong>to</strong> poverty.<br />

Poverty caused by Margaret<br />

Thatcher’s savage policies which systematically<br />

butchered the m<strong>an</strong>ufacturing<br />

<strong>an</strong>d industrial centres of the North<br />

of Engl<strong>an</strong>d <strong>an</strong>d Scotl<strong>an</strong>d, has left<br />

these regions open <strong>to</strong> the ravages of<br />

Coronavirus.<br />

The twin measures of Thatcher’s<br />

<strong>go</strong>vernment <strong>an</strong>d the Union<strong>is</strong>ts at S<strong>to</strong>rmont<br />

were <strong>to</strong> destroy or render ineffective<br />

all those opposed <strong>to</strong> them.<br />

The Tory <strong>go</strong>vernment deliberately<br />

increased unemployment from just<br />

over one million <strong>to</strong> four million in 8<br />

years creating a 1930s situation, while<br />

the Union<strong>is</strong>t’s maintained a 1930s<br />

situation west of the B<strong>an</strong>n until they<br />

were challenged in 1968/69.

Civil Society Open Letter <strong>to</strong><br />

Robin Sw<strong>an</strong>n<br />

ON the <strong>an</strong>niversary of decriminal<strong>is</strong>ation, over 70 org<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>ations<br />

have signed <strong>an</strong> open letter from Alli<strong>an</strong>ce for Choice <strong>to</strong> Robin<br />

Sw<strong>an</strong>n UUP North Antrim Advice Centre calling for the comm<strong>is</strong>sioning<br />

of abortion services in line with the regulations, <strong>an</strong>d<br />

the introduction of telemedicine as recommended by the WHO.<br />

The signa<strong>to</strong>ries include women’s campaigning <strong>an</strong>d support<br />

groups, trade unions, political parties, including the Commun<strong>is</strong>t<br />

Party of Irel<strong>an</strong>d, among others from a wide r<strong>an</strong>ging sphere of<br />

society.<br />

The undersigned* call on the<br />

Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d Health Min<strong>is</strong>ter,<br />

Robin Sw<strong>an</strong>n, <strong>to</strong> implement abortion<br />

care recommendations from<br />

the World Health Org<strong>an</strong>ization<br />

(WHO) immediately.<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> would make prov<strong>is</strong>ion for<br />

abortion telemedicine across<br />

Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d, similar <strong>to</strong> those<br />

comm<strong>is</strong>sioned in Irel<strong>an</strong>d, Engl<strong>an</strong>d,<br />

Wales <strong>an</strong>d Scotl<strong>an</strong>d since<br />

March 2020.<br />

Since the beginning of the outbreak<br />

WHO recommended that<br />

services related <strong>to</strong> reproductive<br />

health are considered part of essential<br />

services during COVID-<br />

19.<br />

In June 2020, WHO recommended<br />

that abortion prov<strong>is</strong>ion in<br />

the global p<strong>an</strong>demic should:<br />

Minim<strong>is</strong>e facility v<strong>is</strong>its <strong>an</strong>d provider–client<br />

contacts through the<br />

use of telemedicine <strong>an</strong>d selfm<strong>an</strong>agement<br />

approaches, when<br />

applicable, ensuring access <strong>to</strong> a<br />

trained provider if needed. (World<br />

Health Org<strong>an</strong>ization (1 June 2020)<br />

2.1.4 Sexual <strong>an</strong>d reproductive<br />

health services, Maintaining essential<br />

health services: operational<br />

guid<strong>an</strong>ce for the COVID-19 context,<br />

Interim guid<strong>an</strong>ce (pp. 29))<br />

Abortion telemedicine has been<br />

available throughout all of the<br />

UK <strong>an</strong>d Irel<strong>an</strong>d since the onset of<br />

the p<strong>an</strong>demic yet Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d<br />

remains the only place<br />

where a safe, cost effective <strong>an</strong>d<br />

practical method of abortion care<br />

has been denied <strong>to</strong> individuals<br />

seeking abortions.<br />

Additionally, the Department of<br />

Health has been legally m<strong>an</strong>dated<br />

<strong>to</strong> comm<strong>is</strong>sion Trust-wide early<br />

medical abortion services up <strong>to</strong> 12<br />

weeks on request <strong>an</strong>d abortions for<br />

health <strong>an</strong>d mental health reasons<br />

with no conditionality up <strong>to</strong> 24<br />

weeks gestation from April 1st, yet<br />

nothing has been done.<br />

In the midst of <strong>an</strong> unprecedented<br />

global p<strong>an</strong>demic, women <strong>an</strong>d<br />

pregn<strong>an</strong>t people who need abortions<br />

should not be forced <strong>to</strong> make<br />

unnecessary journeys of <strong>an</strong>y sort,<br />

either within Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d or<br />

<strong>to</strong> Engl<strong>an</strong>d.<br />

On Monday 5th Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 2020,<br />

the Northern Health Trust reluct<strong>an</strong>tly<br />

adv<strong>is</strong>ed they are no longer<br />

in a position <strong>to</strong> provide early<br />

medical abortions due <strong>to</strong> lack of<br />

resources.<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> was as a direct result of a<br />

failure of the Department of<br />

Health <strong>to</strong> comm<strong>is</strong>sion or fund<br />

ANY services.<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong> just as the confirmed<br />

cases of COVID-19 have surged in<br />

that same Trust, with r<strong>is</strong>k of contagion<br />

amongst the highest across<br />

the UK <strong>an</strong>d Irel<strong>an</strong>d.<br />

The blocking of EMA services<br />

<strong>an</strong>d a complete lack of telemedi-<br />

cine as a result of the DoH inaction,<br />

me<strong>an</strong>s those seeking abortions will<br />

have <strong>to</strong> travel <strong>to</strong> GB, which directly<br />

contravenes WHO guid<strong>an</strong>ce, placing<br />

service users <strong>an</strong>d healthcare<br />

workers at increased r<strong>is</strong>k of COVID<br />

-19 <strong>an</strong>d adding unnecessary cost<br />

<strong>an</strong>d pressure <strong>to</strong> NHS services.<br />

Since April 2020, over 150 women<br />

<strong>an</strong>d pregn<strong>an</strong>t people from Northern<br />

Irel<strong>an</strong>d have had <strong>to</strong> use the Central<br />

Booking system of the Brit<strong>is</strong>h Pregn<strong>an</strong>cy<br />

Adv<strong>is</strong>ory Service (BPAS)<br />

<strong>an</strong>d have been forced <strong>to</strong> travel <strong>to</strong><br />

GB in order <strong>to</strong> access the care they<br />

require, more have used Women on<br />

Web <strong>an</strong>d Women Help Women services<br />

when a straightforward pathway<br />

was unavailable <strong>to</strong> them.<br />

Abortion telemedicine <strong>is</strong> required<br />

in Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d as a matter of<br />

urgency <strong>to</strong> ensure that those women<br />

<strong>an</strong>d pregn<strong>an</strong>t people who require<br />

abortion healthcare are placed at no<br />

additional r<strong>is</strong>k from being unable <strong>to</strong><br />

access the services they require or<br />

being forced <strong>to</strong> travel in order <strong>to</strong> do<br />

so.<br />

We call for the Department of<br />

Health, led by the Northern Irel<strong>an</strong>d<br />

Health Min<strong>is</strong>ter <strong>to</strong> make th<strong>is</strong> prov<strong>is</strong>ion<br />

without <strong>an</strong>y further delay <strong>an</strong>d<br />

<strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p blocking resources <strong>to</strong> abortion<br />

services by h<strong>is</strong> refusal <strong>to</strong> comm<strong>is</strong>sion<br />

services within the Health<br />

<strong>an</strong>d Social Care Trusts.<br />

Solidarity with the<br />

people of Bolivia<br />

THE exit polls <strong>an</strong>d<br />

early counts in the Bolivi<strong>an</strong><br />

election indicate a<br />

major vic<strong>to</strong>ry for the<br />

working <strong>an</strong>d indigenous<br />

peoples, despite the<br />

mass repression, including<br />

the murder of m<strong>an</strong>y<br />

activ<strong>is</strong>ts, workers <strong>an</strong>d<br />

indigenous leaders by<br />

the military <strong>an</strong>d fasc<strong>is</strong>t<br />

forces that ousted the <strong>go</strong>vernment of<br />

Evo Morales in a coup.<br />

But the majority of the oppressed<br />

remained loyal <strong>to</strong> the Movement Towards<br />

Social<strong>is</strong>m (MAS), led by the<br />

former president, Evo Morales, who<br />

had been ousted in a military coup<br />

org<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>ed <strong>an</strong>d supported by imperial<strong>is</strong>m,<br />

both the United States <strong>an</strong>d the<br />

Europe<strong>an</strong> Union.<br />

Morales, who now lives in exile in<br />

Argentina, was a thorn in the side of<br />

imperial<strong>is</strong>m <strong>an</strong>d local reaction<br />

within Bolivia.<br />

The big global monopolies w<strong>an</strong>ted<br />

their h<strong>an</strong>ds on the rich natural resources<br />

that belong <strong>to</strong> the people, <strong>to</strong><br />

rob the people <strong>to</strong> enrich a few.<br />

Morales <strong>an</strong>d h<strong>is</strong> mass movement<br />

were staunch allies <strong>an</strong>d friends of<br />

Cuba, Venezuela, <strong>an</strong>d Nicaragua—<br />

the other targets in the “regime<br />

ch<strong>an</strong>ge” strategy of the United States<br />

<strong>an</strong>d the Europe<strong>an</strong> Union.<br />

It <strong>is</strong> the duty of all left <strong>an</strong>d progressive<br />

forces here in Irel<strong>an</strong>d <strong>to</strong> build<br />

solidarity with the people's of Bolivia,<br />

Venezuela, Nicaragua, <strong>an</strong>d,<br />

most import<strong>an</strong>tly, Cuba.<br />

The left in Irel<strong>an</strong>d needs <strong>to</strong> ab<strong>an</strong>don<br />

its inf<strong>an</strong>tile attitude <strong>to</strong>wards the<br />

continuing struggles in Latin America.<br />

We have <strong>to</strong> take sides. We have<br />

<strong>to</strong> be part<strong>is</strong><strong>an</strong> on the side of the <strong>an</strong>tiimperial<strong>is</strong>t<br />

forces; otherw<strong>is</strong>e we side<br />

with the forces of local reaction <strong>an</strong>d<br />

imperial<strong>is</strong>m. There <strong>is</strong> much that we<br />

c<strong>an</strong> learn form the working people of<br />

Latin America: the need <strong>to</strong> build a<br />

clear class perspective on what <strong>is</strong> <strong>to</strong><br />

be done, the need <strong>to</strong> build fighting,<br />

independent org<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>ations of the<br />

people - trade unions, women, youth<br />

- capable of defending <strong>an</strong>d adv<strong>an</strong>cing<br />

the interests of the people, not <strong>to</strong><br />

allow our aspirations <strong>to</strong> be narrowed<br />

<strong>an</strong>d ch<strong>an</strong>nelled in<strong>to</strong> purely elec<strong>to</strong>ral<br />

struggles <strong>an</strong>d state institutions - all<br />

mech<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>ms for controlling the<br />

course of how we should struggle<br />

<strong>an</strong>d what we should struggle for, institutions<br />

establ<strong>is</strong>hed <strong>an</strong>d sustained<br />

<strong>to</strong> try <strong>to</strong> narrow our v<strong>is</strong>ion <strong>an</strong>d control<br />

the outcome of our struggles <strong>an</strong>d<br />

our dem<strong>an</strong>ds.<br />

As we face in<strong>to</strong> a new wave of<br />

austerity, new debt built upon old<br />

debt that will be placed upon the<br />

backs of working people, our children<br />

<strong>an</strong>d gr<strong>an</strong>dchildren, we need <strong>to</strong><br />

prepare for the coming struggles. We<br />

need <strong>to</strong> rebuild a fighting trade union<br />

movement, build people’s org<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>ations.<br />

The future belongs <strong>to</strong> social<strong>is</strong>m, <strong>to</strong><br />

working people. But it c<strong>an</strong> only be<br />

achieved if we org<strong>an</strong><strong>is</strong>e ourselves<br />

<strong>an</strong>d take our future in<strong>to</strong> our own<br />

h<strong>an</strong>ds.<br />
