1 2 3 4 5 Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral INTRODUCTION This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge to ensure safe and effective exercise programming for patients with a number of medical conditions and common reasons for referral onto a community-based exercise referral scheme. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The learner must hold either a suitable Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym, Exercise to Music or Water-based Exercise), Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training, Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates Matwork or a Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga or equivalent. QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE The learner must complete: • Unit 1: Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health (A/600/9051). • Unit 2: Professional practice for exercise referral instructors (Y/503/7493). • Unit 3: Understanding medical conditions for exercise referral (R/503/7492). • Unit 4: Applying the principles of nutrition and physical activity (L/600/9054). • Unit 5: Planning exercise referral programmes with patients (D/503/7494). • Unit 6: Instructing exercise with referred patients (L/503/7491). ASSESSMENT This qualification is assessed by: • Coursework. • Multiple-choice exam. • Portfolio of evidence. • Practical demonstration/assignment. 1 2 3 4 5 Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Fitness INTRODUCTION This qualification provides learners with a broad base of knowledge and skills to be able to work in a variety of customer-facing roles within the active leisure industry, including the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no specific entry requirements. Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended. The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary. There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2. QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE Learners must complete the six mandatory units and a minimum of 15 optional units (10 of these must be at Level 3 or above) and include the minimum requirements for two of the pathways from the following: • Personal training. • Coaching. • Special populations. • Long-term conditions. • Operational service/ Leisure management. • Health and wellbeing. Please note: Units can be selected from the following two groups; however, they do not contribute towards the minimum of two pathway requirements • Group training. • Other. • Unit 1: Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness (A/616/7499). • Unit 2: Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors (K/616/7501). • Unit 3: Health and safety in the fitness environment (M/616/7502). • Unit 4: Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change (A/616/7504) • Unit 5: Planning and instructing gym-based exercise (F/616/7505). • Unit 6: Technology in sport and exercise (M/618/3456).
