At times, winter in Alaska seems like it
will never end. Spring in the Arctic can be
a tease – sunny long days followed by a
week of ground blizzards with below zero
temperatures. The Voluntary Protection
Programs (VPP) tend to mirror the
weather, travel is often impacted and most
outside work is slowed. The holidays and
end-of-season self audits take up a lot of
office time. On days when it’s 40 below, we
tend to focus on training and paperwork.
We all look forward to “breakup” when
we can get out in the field once again and
visit our remote sites.
Air Logistics, Inc., with regional
headquarters located in Fairbanks, has
Alaska has been a VPP site since 2001.
On January 13, 2010, Grey Mitchell,
currently, 22 states in the u.s. run their own, complete state-plan programs (covering
private sector, state and local government employees). these states developed and operate
their own job safety and health program, as encouraged by section 18 of the occupational
Safety and Health Act of 1970. The reported activity by state was submitted by state-plan
oshA representatives.
“The Voluntary Protection Program is
an excellent fit with our Bristow Group
Safety Culture,” said Robert Goebel,
safety manager for Bristow Alaska.
“Our employees’ commitment to a safe
operating environment is the reason
why Bristow Group of Alaska is able
to maintain its excellent industrial and
aviation safety record. Our continued
participation in the VPP program will
assist us in providing a safe, efficient, and
rewarding workplace while maintaining
our place at the forefront of Alaskan
aviation transportation.”
With the leading cause of workplace
fatalities in Alaska being transportation
accidents, we are very proud to have
Bristow Alaska, Inc., a member of the
transportation industry, as a part of the
VPP family. For more than 25 years,
