The Department of <strong>Education</strong> and Training (DET) seeks to engage <strong>Queensland</strong>ers in lifelong learning by providing<br />
high quality, accessible services to the state's education and training sectors. DET is a diverse organisation with<br />
the largest workforce in the state. We provide services through three broad service delivery areas:<br />
• The Office for Early Childhood <strong>Education</strong> and Care leads early childhood development and education policy<br />
and regulates the provision of childcare services.<br />
• <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Queensland</strong> Division delivers high quality education to more than 70 percent of all <strong>Queensland</strong><br />
school students at prep, primary and secondary levels.<br />
• Training and Tertiary <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Queensland</strong> work with industry to build a world class training and skilling<br />
system to skill <strong>Queensland</strong>ers including the management of 13 TAFE institutes, regulation of the state’s<br />
apprenticeship and traineeship system, regulation of registered training organisations, provision of strategic<br />
direction for the higher education and non-state education sectors and investment in <strong>Queensland</strong>’s training and<br />
skilling system.<br />

Your opportunity<br />
As the <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong> <strong>Consultant</strong> you will:<br />
• Provide effective and timely advice and consultancy services to regional and school staff on a diverse range of<br />
human resource management matters.<br />
• Work with the Principal <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong> <strong>Consultant</strong> and the Regional <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong>s Manager as part of<br />
the team that will utilise the range of departmental policies including the workforce strategy to interpret, clarify<br />
and operationalise the reform agenda and the resultant impact on the workforce.<br />
The <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong> <strong>Consultant</strong> reports to the Principal <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong> <strong>Consultant</strong> and the Regional<br />
<strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong>s Manager. The <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong> <strong>Consultant</strong> may be responsible for leading and<br />
managing a team.<br />

Your role<br />
You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:<br />
• Undertake organisational development assignments and projects to deliver high quality human resource<br />
solutions and customer outcomes.<br />
• As a member of the regional and human resource program’s team, contribute to change and relational<br />
management processes in the region.<br />
• Provide quality human resource solutions that are aligned to support and assist clients to develop best practice<br />
human resource management so that strategic, business and operational objectives are effectively met.<br />
• Ensure positive client relations through the continual development, review and evaluation of human resource<br />
products and services and through effective liaison and consultation with customers.<br />
• Establish effective working relationships with clients through the provision of high quality, accurate,<br />
authoritative consultancy services and timely advice to management, clients and staff on a full range of human<br />
resources issues.<br />
• Assist in the coordination of human resource services to the department and its associated agencies by<br />
developing and implementing new/revised human resource management policies, processes and systems and<br />
by providing services such as:<br />
o recruitment and selection,<br />
o appointment, transfer and deployment of staff,<br />
o induction and probation,<br />
o performance management processes, including disciplinary and diminished work performance procedures,<br />
o grievance and conflict resolution,<br />
o employee assistance referrals,<br />
o rehabilitation and return to work programs,<br />
o workplace health and safety,<br />
o organisational health monitoring,<br />
o organisation development activities including employment equity and workplace reform programs and<br />
consulting.<br />
• Other specific activities the <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Resource</strong> <strong>Consultant</strong> may include:<br />
o organise the most effective use of staffing resources,<br />
o liaise with district staff who are responsible for the development of school workforce plans,<br />
o provide human resource consultancy services to schools,<br />
o conduct grievance investigations and facilitate alternative conflict resolution strategies,<br />
o conduct investigations of complaints against employees, prepare reports and make recommendations as<br />
appropriate for disciplinary action,<br />
o support and advise schools in relation to performance management issues,<br />
o establish and provide support to selection panels as required,<br />
o refer staff for employee counselling and other employee support services,<br />
o case manage employees with medical concerns including ill health retirement options,<br />
o participate in and lead reviews of corporate services programs and functions.<br />

Additional information<br />
• A “C” class drivers licence is required of this position.<br />
• A non-smoking policy applies in <strong>Queensland</strong> government buildings, offices and motor vehicles.<br />
• A criminal history check will be initiated on the successful applicant by the <strong>Queensland</strong> Police Service.<br />
• A discipline history check may be initiated on the successful applicant.<br />
• If the successful applicant has been engaged as a lobbyist, a statement of their employment is required.<br />
• You may be required to complete a period of probation in accordance with the Public Service Act 2008.<br />
