industry under the brands SCHUPA, NOWAPLAST and GEWISS.
The company looks back on more than 65 years of history and is a leading manufacturer
for low voltage devices, residual current circuit breakers, automatic fuses, cable ducts and
lighting such as floodlights, industrial lights and emergency lighting.
The GEWISS Group is a leading manufacturer of electrical materials and lighting technology.
The program extends from systems and components for low-voltage electrical installations
through to electrical systems for buildings, from automatic fuses through to lighting
technology.
Numerous international patents and trademarks bear witness to the innovative power of the
company. GEWISS products comply with all requirements made of electrical installation.
In the new millennium, the GEWISS Group comes over as an international, highly expansive
France, England and Spain, and with commercial agents and dealers in more than 80 countries
all over the world.
The GEWISS Group offers a product range consisting of around 15,000 articles, making it
one of the most comprehensive product ranges for electrical installation.
The locations
The location in Merenberg with about 50 employees is home to the German headquarters
of SCHUPA GmbH with administration, sales, product marketing and marketing communication.
Our modern seminar centre and showroom is also located here. Facilities covering more
and training courses on the various segments of the whole programme are offered all the
time.
The development and purchasing departments are to be found in Ottfingen near Olpe. In
addition, the trip devices for residual current circuit breakers and electronic components
are produced here. SCHUPA trip relays have earned a world-wide reputation for their outstanding
quality standard, and are used in their millions every year.
Residual current signal relay
4-pole; width 79 mm
A residual current signal relay is a measuring device which indicates the occurrence of a fault
current via an auxiliary contact, without switching off the faulty part of the system. The NMR can
therefore be used in not earthed network systems (IT systems) in which the initial isolation failure
does not result in dangerous contact potentials to earth. Similar to all residual current devices,
the fault current is registered independent of the mains voltage by way of the built-in 4-pole core
balance transformer.
Earth leakage relay control systems
Control relays
Earth leakage relay control systems can be installed in electric systems in order to establish
residual current devices in electric systems even for large power ratings.
With this system, the components core balance transformer and control relay (switching element
with trip) are isolated and connected by means of appropriate external wiring. The line subject
to control passes through the transformer. Power contactors or circuit breakers are switched by
the control relay and switch off the fault (not included in the scope of delivery).
Because of high start-up currents, high rating motors can cause high earth leakage currents
causing inadvertent tripping of the control device in extreme cases. In this case it is recommended
to use the impulse current resistant (NPFI-ST..) or the selective devices. At any rate it must be
ensured that the lines pass through the transformer preferably concentrically. For this purpose,
70 and 105 mm lock-type cable glands are supplied for the transformers.
● Fault current indicator switches change their switching position only if the main contacts are
changed over in the event of a fault, that is not when switched OFF manually.
● Remote actuators cause the fault current indicator switches to be switched off when externally
arranged switches or push button switches are actuated, without dragging external voltage to
the control organs (connection diagram see T 6).
Miniature circuit breakers
Attachable auxiliary devices / accessories
Auxiliary devices for subsequent attachment by an electrician to the left-hand side of miniature
circuit breakers NLS 1…4-pole (69 mm high)
Auxiliary switches
● Change their switching position with every switching position change of the main contacts
Fault indicator switches
● Change their switching position only if the main contacts change their switching position in the event of a fault –
not when switching manually
● Function test by pressing the installed test button (fully depressed) – this changes over the contacts of the fault
indicator switch and switches OFF the miniature circuit breaker. Switching the miniature circuit breaker ON again
will render the fault indicator switch operational again.
Auxiliary and fault indicator switches can also be adapted together with a remote actuator, the following technical
data applies:
According to VDE 0660 / Ith = 25 A, max. contact load: Remote actuators (operating current trip/solenoid)
● Serve for decentralised switching off of miniature
circuit breakers such as required in control stations
or complex control systems
● Through a built-in contact, they isolate themselves
automatically from the net after the NLS… has
been switched off and are therefore suitable for long
switch-on times (activation through permanent
signal)
● Can also be expanded with auxiliary switches
● Assembly sequence in combination with auxiliary
switches: first remote actuator, then auxiliary switch
The SCHUPA-LS circuit breakers are built in accordance with EN 60898 and VDE 0641
and carry the VDE symbol.
The B-characteristic is mainly for line protection in light and control circuits.
The C-characteristic was defined for line protection of equipment with high switch-on
currents – for instance motors and transformers.
Of course the devices are safe with regard to contact with the fingers and the back of
the hand in accordance with VDE 0106 T 100 (BGV A2, before VBG 4).
