night events<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong>CadetUnit’sannual fundraiser at<br />
the <strong>Ashburton</strong> RSAonOctober31starts with<br />
aquiz eventand thenoffers the opportunity<br />
to stepontothe dance floorafterwards.<br />
Thenightoftwo halves has athemeof<br />
Halloween Heroesand all proceeds from the<br />
event will go to supportthe <strong>Ashburton</strong>RSA.<br />
Thequizisopen to teamsofbetweenfour<br />
and six of any age andwill be run in the<br />
Doris Linton Lounge.<br />
It willberun by RSA members and goes<br />
from 6.30pm until9pm.The teamcost is $40<br />
and the quizincludes spotprizes, raffles and<br />
winning team prizes.<br />
The<strong>Ashburton</strong>CadetUnit will run the<br />
dance event in the mainbar area at theRSA<br />
from 8pm.<br />
Aimed at thoseover 18, it will feature<br />
tunesfromDJDaveand dancemusicfrom<br />
the 1970's onwards.<br />
Tickets cost$15 andincludeentry,afree<br />
spin on chocolate wheel,supper and the<br />
opportunity to win spotprizes andbest<br />
dressedprizes.<br />
Those registering for boththe quizand<br />
dance party save$5.<br />

New date for<br />
comedy gig<br />
Acomedy gig in <strong>Ashburton</strong> featuring Paul<br />
Ego has been rescheduled to October 2.<br />
All tickets for the postponed gig will<br />
automatically roll over.<br />
Anyone with aticket and who can't make<br />
the new date, can get arefund from the place<br />
of purchase.<br />
The Hotel <strong>Ashburton</strong> comedy gig was due<br />
to be have been held in late August and is<br />

Netherby juniors on stage<br />
After much heightened anticipation, junior<br />
pupils at Netherby School took to the stage<br />
for their musical production of Hats Off.<br />
Around 70 to 80 pupils, aged five to eight, in<br />
the junior syndicate took part in some way<br />

either dressed as barnyard animals like<br />
chickens, pigs, ponies, sheep, cows, ducks,<br />
goats or adog. There were also pupils as<br />
autumn leaves, snowflakes and buds/green<br />
leaves, and well as school children, farm<br />
family members and narrators.<br />
Under the direction of junior syndicate<br />
teachers Bridget Patrick, Nicky MacKenzie,<br />
Jordyn Love and Ines Toder and supported<br />
by teacher aids the pupils told the story,<br />
through narration and bursts of song, of<br />
barnyard animals, and their farming family,<br />
living life through the seasons.<br />
There was even aguest appearance from<br />
school principal Phil Wheeler who busted a<br />
few dance moves at the end.<br />
The performance was livestreamed, and<br />
recorded, for family and friends unable to<br />
attend due to Covid19 restrictions.
