The chest is in goodcondition and
is of veryhigh quality.
It has beenevaluatedand
authenticated by English furniture
expert Dr Bernard Cotton, who says
its design and embellishment is in
keepingwith the 1634 date carved on
it.
Thatdateand the initials IH are
assessed as beingoriginal to the
piece.
The chest has framed and panelled
constructiononthefront sides, rear
and top, withthe framing elements
all featuringdecorative mouldings.
The original fish tailhinges are
nailed with‘‘rosehead’’nails and
cleated overinthe bottompart, but
the nails have beenreplaced with
screws in theupper section.
