malibusurfsidenews.com MALIBUMALIBU SURFSIDE NEWS | September 16, 2020 | 27Aviator Nation expands and will offer a community spaceBARBARA BURKE,Staff ReporterWhen Cafe Escobar shutteredearlier this summer,Aviator Nation, an adjacentbusiness, decided toexpand and take over theentire property.“We moved into ourspace at the old MalibuInn seven years ago andever since I moved in, I’vedreamed of designing anexperience for the communityin the full building,”Paige Mycoskie, Founderof Aviator Nation, said.“When I was younger, Iused to visit the old MalibuInn and attend great concertshere.”Mycoskie was speakingof the time, in the1980s-’90s when MalibuInn was a music venue.According to local concertpromoter Matt Diamondand Malibu journalistBen Marcus, the MalibuInn provided a stage for thelikes of Jerry Lee Lewis,Tom Petty, Kenny WayneShepherd, Kid Rock, DickDale, Leon Russell, AlbertLee, Richie Sambora, TheDoors, Chris Robinson andMark Ford of Black Crowes,The Allman Brothers’Dicky Betts, The Eagles’Don Felder, The Foo Fighters’Taylor Hawkins, ThePolice’s Stewart Copeland,Red Hot Chili Peppers’Chad Smith, Motley Cru’sNiki Six, Tower Of Power,George Clinton and P-Funk, Agent Orange, PatoBanton, English Beat, SteelPulse, Donaven Frankenreiter,The Expendable, Fishbone,Dawes, The WhiteBuffalo, Brandon Jennerand many others.Looking forward to thevenue’s next iteration,Mycoskie said, “I have apassion for music and mybrand Aviator Nation supportsthe music industry ina lot of ways. My dreamseven years ago was tobring back the greatnessof the Malibu Inn’s past,but in Aviator Nation style.Now, that dream is comingtrue and we have the leaseon the full building so weare going to do just that.”Mycoskie has big plansfor the expanded business.“The new space willbe called Aviator NationDreamland. This will bethe very first of this specialconcept. Essentially, wewill have a bar, coffee bar,juice bar, a small but superyummy menu and the beststage in town.”“I would love to alsooffer special events thatcater to the wellness communitylike yoga, nutrition,skincare, etc.,” Mycoskietold Surfside News. “OurDreamland stage will hostspecial shows, only it willnot be a nightly thing. Iplan to have special limitedshows. It is possible that wewill do one to three showsper month, some small andsome a bit bigger.”To prepare for offeringsuch events, Mycoskie explainedthat Aviator Nationis completely revampingthe sound system.“Every element to thenew space is being donecarefully to consider the effectsof the sound quality,”she said. “The space willcelebrate the California lifestylewe know and love.”Mycoskie added that shehas a particular vision forthe new venue.“I live in Malibu myself,so I am a member of thiscommunity and I reallydo feel like I have a goodunderstanding of what weneed here. However, sheemphasized that she is designingthe space herselfand that she and her inhouseteam are doing a lotof the painting and cosmeticdetails.“My goal is to design aspace that makes you feelwarm and cozy inside whenyou enter,” Mycoskie said.“We want to bring love toMalibu and to hopefully inspirethe future of our community.”Mycoskie is developinga new line of merchandisethat will be sold only in thenew space.“The merchandise willinclude Dreamland brandedapparel, luxury swimwearand other lifestyleproducts that our customersand neighbors are cravinglike towels and other beachgear,” she said.“My goal is to listen tothe community and to giveMalibuites what they need.”A soft opening is set forOctober.The can’t-miss sign outside Aviator Nation’s Malibustore.
