cal church has the absolute right of self-government, free from theinterference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations; and thatthe one and only superintendent is Christ through the Holy Spirit;that it is scriptural for true churches to cooperate with each other incontending for the faith and for the furtherance of the Gospel; thatevery church is sole and only judge of the measure and method of itscooperation, on all matters of membership, policy, or government, ofdiscipline, of benevolence, and the will of the local church is final.We are also a Baptist institution which holds to historic Baptist distinctivesin its doctrinal position. Fairhaven Baptist College is anarm of the local church. The college makes plain the New Testamentteaching of the local church organization and reflects its autonomyand sovereignty.We believe THE ORDINANCES GIVEN TO THE LOCAL CHURCHARE TWO, BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER: that baptismis by immersion of believers, thus portraying the death, burial, and theresurrection of Jesus Christ; that the Lord’s Supper is the partakingof the bread and cup by the believer as a continuing memorial of thebroken body and shed blood of Christ.We believe in MISSIONS AND MISSIONARIES: that all men everywhereare lost and condemned and that the command to go and preachthe Gospel to the world is clear and unmistakable and this commissionwas given to the churches. Following New Testament precedent andexample, we believe that all missionary endeavors should be underthe ultimate sponsorship of the local congregation which may utilizethe facilities and services of mission boards, but that no mission boardshould ever misconstrue its purpose to attempt to hold or to assignauthority to itself.We believe in THE GRACE OF GIVING: that God’s method of financingHis earthly work of spreading the Gospel to all nations, thecare of the churches and the support of the ministry, is by the tithe andofferings of God’s people. We believe that it is to be given to the Lordthrough His church or storehouse to be distributed as directed by theleadership of the Spirit, as the need arises. We believe that the time totithe is upon the first day of the week. We also believe that everyone11
is accountable to the Lord for a minimum standard of giving of onetenthof his income and that offerings are to be given above the titheas God has prospered the individual.We believe in SEPARATION FROM THE WORLD: that it is a commandof God that all believers separate from all forms of godlessness,apostasy, compromise and worldliness. We are against short skirts,long hair on men, rock music, drugs, and everything else the Bibleteaches against. In addition, the policy of neutralism is just as Scripturallyuntenable.The study of God’s Word, for the purposeof discovering God’s will, is the secretdiscipline which has formed the greatestcharacters.J.
