Welcome to Cologne! 

With your arrival in Cologne, the 8th Gay Games 

Cologne 2010 has come to life. After seven years of 

preparations, we are delighted to be able to give you a 

warm welcome here in Cologne. 

It has been a great honor for us to have been chosen 

as the location for the Gay Games 2010 by the Federation 

of Gay Games. 

With a total of 35 sports disciplines and 5 cultural 

events, you will be taking part in one of the biggest 

mass sports events world-wide. 

We hope you will enjoy many exciting competitions 

and have interesting encounters with people from all 

over the world. 

This brochure contains everything you need to know 

about your sport.

Mit Eurer Ankunft in Köln erweckt Ihr die VIII. Gay 

Games Cologne 2010 zum Leben. Nach sieben Jahren 

der Vorbereitung freuen wir uns, Euch in Köln sehr 

herzlich begrüßen zu können. 

Für uns ist es eine große Ehre, von der „Federation 

of Gay Games“ den Zuschlag für die Ausrichtung der 

Spiele 2010 erhalten zu haben. 

Mit insgesamt 35 Sportarten und 5 Kulturveranstaltungen 

erlebt Ihr eine der größten Breitensportveranstaltungen 

der Welt. 

Wir wünschen Euch spannende Wettkämpfe und viele 

interessante Begegnungen mit Menschen aus den 

unterschiedlichsten Ländern dieser Erde. 

Diese kleine Broschüre enthält die wichtigsten und 

notwendigsten Informationen rund um Eure Sportart.

WELCOME TO ALL SAME-SEX DANCERS 

On behalf of ESSDA (European Same-sex Dance Association) 

I would like to welcome all competitors, their families and 

friends to Koln. The organizers have a very full programme for 

us and there are competitions for dancers of all levels. 

To anyone who is competing at an international event for the 

fi rst time, a very special welcome. I hope it will be the fi rst of 

many and that you return home with happy memories and 

new friends. 

I am sure all dancers have been working hard in preparation 

for this prestigious event in the dance calendar and I wish 

you all great success. 

Remember to enjoy the dancing as this will lift your performance 

and help you shine on the fl oor!

Im Namen von ESSDA (European Same-sex Dance Association) 

begrüße ich alle TeilnehmerInnen, ihre Familien und 

Freunde herzlich in Köln. Das Organisations-Team hat ein 

sehr volles Programm für uns vorbereitet, das Turniere für 

alle Klassen vorsieht. 

All diejenigen, die das erste Mal an einem internationalen 

Turnier teilnehmen, begrüße ich besonders. Ich hoff e, für 

Euch wird es das erste Mal von vielen Malen, die Ihr an 

solchen Turnieren teilnehmt. Ich hoff e, dass ihr mit vielen 

glücklichen Erinnerungen nach Hause fahrt und viele neue 

Freunde kennen gelernt habt. 

Ich bin sicher, dass alle Tänzerinnen und Tänzer sich hart 

auf dieses wichtige Turnier mit großen Prestige vorbereitet 

haben und ich wünsche Euch allen viel Erfolg.

Grußwort 

Welcome all Dancers to VIII. Gay Games Cologne 2010 

from 31st July to 7 August 

From 31st July to 07 August 2010 the city of Cologne becomes 

the meeting point for VIII. Gay Games. The organisers expect 

ca. 10,000 participants from 70 nations. 

The motto “Be part of it!” should motivate everyone to 

participate, regardless of their sexual orientation. 

The Gay Games, unlike other sports competitions, enable 

people from all walks of life to compete against each other 

regardless of skill level, age or physical challenge. The sports 

range from football over beach-volleyball, billiard, chess and 

sailing to dance sport. 

The organisers started very early and many people participated 

in the preparations. I was part of two of the preparatory 

events and was able to feel and share the enthusiasm 

the organisers exuded. 

Especially for the dance sport the title as Gay Games Champion 

is seen as the unoffi cial World Champion title and that is 

why I am sure that the visitors of the dancing in the splendid 

ballroom of Maritim hotel will see top-level dancing in Latin- 

American, ballroom, disco-fox and line-dance styles. 

I am delighted that the World Champions in women’s 

ballroom, Dr. Caroline Privou and Dr. Petra Zimmermann as 

well as the winners of the women’s Latin-American and 

combination competitions at “Outgames 2009 Copenhagen” 

will be part of the competitions here in Cologne, especially 

since they belong to Rot-Gold Köln and Swining Sisters Köln – 

two Northrhine-Westphalian clubs. 

All the best to VIII. Gay Games in Cologne and a successful 

time here in Cologne. I am sure that all the sports competitions 

will be enjoyed by the spectators and competitors alike. 

Grußwort zu den VIII. Gay Games Cologne 2010 

vom 31. Juli - 7. August 

Die Stadt Köln ist vom 31. Juli bis zum 7. August 2010 der 

Treff punkt für die VIII. Gay Games. Die Organisatoren erwarten 

ca. 10.000 TeilnehmerInnen aus über 70 Nationen. 

Nach dem Motto „Be part of it!” kann jeder teilnehmen – 

egal ob hetero- oder homosexuell. 

Die Gay Games, anders als die meisten anderen Sportwettbewerbe, 

befähigen Menschen, ungeachtet ihrer Leistung, 

ihres Alters oder ihrer körperlichen Möglichkeiten sich in 

aller Vielfalt des Lebens im sportlichen Wettbewerb zu 

vergleichen. Die Bandbreite beinhaltet Fußball, Beach- 

Volleyball, Billard, Schach, Segeln und Tanzsport. 

Das Organisationsteam des Tanzsportes hat sehr früh seine 

Arbeit aufgenommen und viele Helferinnen und Helfer in 

die Arbeit mit eingebunden. Bei zwei großen Informationsveranstaltungen 

war ich dabei und konnte die Begeisterung 

der Verantwortlichen miterleben. 

Die tanzsportlichen Aktivitäten mit dem Turnier um den Titel 

des Gay Games Champion gelten als die inoffi zielle Weltmeisterschaft 

der Equality-Tänzerinnen und -Tänzer und so 

werden die Besucher im Ballsaal des Hotels Maritim in Köln 

hochkarätige Tanzturniere in den Latein- und Standarttänzen 

so wie im Disco-Fox und Line-Dance erleben. 

Ich freue mich sehr, dass die Weltmeisterinnen der Frauenpaare 

in den Standardtänzen, Dr. Caroline Privou und Dr. 

Petra Zimmermann sowie die amtierenden Siegerinnen in 

den lateinamerikanischen Tänzen und in der Kombination 

der „Outgames“ von 2009 in Kopenhagen, Claudia Reger 

und Nadine Dlouhy am Start sind. Dass diese Paare für den 

TTC Rot-Gold Köln und die Swinging Sisters Köln tanzen 

freut mich besonders.

Cologne not only off ers the best sports venues but also has so 

much on off er besides the sports competitions. 

I hope you had a good trip to Cologne and wish you all the 

best in this wonderful city on the banks of the river Rhine. 

Ich wünsche den VIII. Gay Games in Köln eine erfolgreiche 

Zeit und hoff e, dass alle angebotenen Sportveranstaltungen

The venue offers a wooden dance floor approximately 300 

square metres, with a side length of at least 13 metres. 

Direction 

Anreise 

The Dancesport competition takes place at ballroom of the 

beautiful Maritim Hotel, located on the Heumarkt, one of 

the oldest squares in Cologne. The Heumarkt can easily 

be reached from any location in the center of the city by 

walking or by public transportation. The closest tram stops 

are the Heumarkt stop on the U-1 (direction Bensberg), U-7 

(Direction Zündorf) or U-9 (direction Königsforst) lines, one 

stop from Neumarkt and two stops from Rudolfsplatz. 

From the Heumarkt tram stop exit the train and cross the 

square. Be sure to cross only at crosswalks because heavy 

vehicular traffic (and bikes) travel through the intersection.

Das Tanz-Parkett misst ca. 300 Quadratmeter 

und hat eine Seitenlänge von mindestens 13 Metern. 

Der Tanzwettbewerb findet im Ballsaal des wunderschönen 

Maritim-Hotels am Heumarkt statt, einem der ältesten 

Plätze in Köln. Der Heumarkt kann problemlos von der 

Innenstadt aus zu Fuß oder mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln 

erreicht werden. Die Haltestelle Heumarkt ist per Bahn 

durch die Linien 1 (Richtung Bensberg), Linie 7 (Richtung 

Zündorf) oder Linie 9 (Richtung Königsforst) erreichbar. Sie 

ist eine Haltestelle vom Neumarkt und zwei Haltestellen vom 

Rudolfplatz entfernt. 

Am Heumarkt angekommen, überquere den Platz – aber 

bitte nur an den Bürgersteigen, da das Verkehrsaufkommen 

in diesem Bereich sehr hoch ist. Auf der linken Seite kannst 

du bereits das Maritim-Hotel sehen.

At the GayGames competitions female couples and male 

couples will dance respectively (except for the Mixed 

Couples-Fun-Competitions). 

Age categories 

At the dancing competitions for female and male couples 

of the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 there will be three age 

categories: 

∑ In the age category Seniors I (35+) both dance partners 

must be at least 35 years of age on July 31, 2010. 

∑ In the age category Seniors II (45+) both dance partners 

must be at least 45 years of age on July 31, 2010. 

∑ Senior couples can dance the senior and/or the main 

round tournaments. 

∑ Senior couples will be asked to have their ID ready at the 

Check In on the tournament day for age control. 

Participants can dance in different dancing styles (Standard, 

Latin, Disco-Fox) and age categories with different partners. 

Participants of the 10-Dances-Tournament have to dance 

with the same partner for the whole tournament.

Bei den GayGames-Wettbewerben tanzen jeweils Frauenpaare 

und Männerpaare (außer bei den Mixed Couples- 

Fun-Wettbewerben). 

ACHTUNG: Für jede Startnummer wird eine Kaution von 

10 Euro fällig, die bei Abgabe der Startnummer nach dem 

Ausscheiden wieder zurückgegeben wird. 

Altersgruppen 

Bei den Tanzwettbewerben für Frauen- und Männerpaare 

der Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 gibt es drei Altersgruppen: 

In der Altersgruppe Senioren I (35+) müssen beide TanzpartnerInnen 

am 31. Juli 2010 mindestens 35 Jahre alt 

sein. 

In der Altersgruppe Senioren II (45+) müssen beide TanzpartnerInnen 

am 31. Juli 2010 mindestens 45 Jahre alt 

sein. 

Seniorenpaare können die Senioren- und/oder die Hauptgruppenturniere 

tanzen. 

Seniorenpaare werden gebeten, beim Check In am Turniertag 

ihren Ausweis zur Alterskontrolle bereitzuhalten. 

TeilnehmerInnen können in verschiedenen Tanzstilen 

(Standard, Latein, Disco-Fox) und Altersgruppen mit verschiedenen 

PartnerInnen tanzen. TeilnehmerInnen der 10- 

Tänze-Turniere müssen das gesamte Turnier mit derselben/ 

demselben Partnerin/Partner tanzen.

„Open Category“ means that the participants present all 

10 dances. It is possible to sit out one or more of the 10 

dances, in that case this couple will receive the worst placing 

in the respective dance. 

Performance categories 

A, B, C, D, E (= Starters). A describes the strongest category 

and E is the category for real beginneres who have not yet 

participated in a tournament. All participants have to state 

in which performance category they grade themselves. 

For all couples there will be a General Look (a dance, max. 

one minute) and classification rounds with the dances Slow 

Waltz, Tango and Quickstep for the Standard section and 

Cha-Cha, Rumba and Jive for the Latin section to carry out 

the final classification of the couples by the jury in one of 

the categories carried out in the respective age category. 

Couples that enrolled as „Starters“ are exempted from the 

participation of the General Look and the classification 

rounds. 

For all tournaments we reserve the rights to maybe carry 

out less starting categories in case of too little applications. 

Details of this matter will be announced as soon as the registration 

is finished. In case of too little application numbers 

for separate female and male senior tournaments there will 

be a combined tournament that will be rated separately.

„Offene Klasse“ bedeutet, dass die TeilnehmerInnen alle 10 

Tänze präsentieren. Es ist möglich, bei einem oder mehreren 

der 10 Tänze auszusetzen, dann erhält dieses Paar den 

schlechtesten Platz in dem jeweiligen Tanz. 

Leistungsklassen 

A, B, C, D, E (= Starters). A bezeichnet die stärkste Klasse und 

E ist die Klasse für echte AnfängerInnen, die noch kein Turnier 

getanzt haben. Alle TeilnehmerInnen müssen angeben, 

in welche Leistungsklasse sie sich selbst einstufen. 

Für alle Paare wird es einen General Look (ein Tanz, max. 

eine Minute) und Sichtungsrunden mit den Tänzen Langsamer 

Walzer, Tango und Quickstep für die Standard-Sektion 

und Cha-Cha, Rumba und Jive für die Latein-Sektion 

geben, um die endgültige Einstufung der Paare durch die 

WertungsrichterInnen in eine der in der jeweiligen Altersgruppe 

ausgetragenen Klassen vorzunehmen. 

Paare, die sich als „Starters“ angemeldet haben, sind von 

der Teilnahme am General Look und den Sichtungsrunden 

ausgenommen. 

Für alle Turniere behalten wir uns vor, bei zu wenigen 

Startmeldungen möglicherweise weniger Startklassen 

durchzuführen. Details hierzu werden bekannt gegeben, 

sobald die Registrierung geschlossen ist. Bei zu geringer 

Meldezahl für separate Frauen- und Männer-Senioren- 

Turniere wird ein gemeinsames Turnier durchgeführt, aber 

getrennt gewertet.

The rules of the European Same-Sex Dance Association (ES- 

SDA) apply to the dancing competitions (Standard and Latin) 

in the, for the time of the Gay Games 2010, valid version. 

Possible departures from the ESSDA rules will be announced 

in sufficient time. (This system of rules currently only exists 

as a blueprint and can be read on this website www.essda.

Regeln 

Bei den Tanzwettbewerben (Standard und Latein) gelten die 

Regeln der European Same-Sex Dance Association (ESSDA) 

in der während der GayGames 2010 gültigen Fassung. 

Mögliche Abweichungen von den ESSDA-Rules werden 

rechtzeitig bekannt gegeben. (Dieses Regelwerk liegt zurzeit 

nur als Entwurf vor und kann auf der Website www.essda. 

eu nachgelesen werden.)

Separate competitions for female and male couples. 

One category respectively without age limit (18+). 

Rules 

Disco Fox at the Gay Games Cologne 2010 will be carried 

out in dependence on the rules of the TAF (The Actiondance 

Federation – www.taf.info). 

Music 

The Music is 2/4 or 4/4 beat. 

In the preliminary round only a quick round (122 – 132 

BPM) will be danced. 

From the hope round on an additional slow round (104 – 

110 BPM) will be danced. 

The music track is 1:30 minutes in each case (except fort he 

overview rounds in the final). 

Execution of rounds 

Preliminary round: Approx. half of all couples will qualify 

directly for the next round. The remaining couples dance a 

round of hope, of which approximately one third qualify 

for the next round. In the following rounds until the final 

round, depending on the crosses, up to about half of the 

couples will be rated one round further. 

In general, six pairs qualify for the final. Depending on the 

distribution of the crosses not less than 5 and not more 

than 8 couples are allowed to dance in the final. (Exception: 

if less than five couples are at the start) 

Operation of the final round 

If less or more than 6 couples reach the final the tournament 

official decides the number of simultaneously dancing 

couples.

Die Musik ist 2/4 oder 4/4 Takt. 

In der Vorrunde wird nur eine Quickrunde (122 – 132 BPM) 

getanzt. 

Ab der Hoffnungsrunde wird zusätzlich eine Slowrunde 

(104 – 110 BPM) getanzt. 

Die Musiklänge beträgt jeweils ca. 1:30 Minuten (außer in 

den Übersichts-Runden im Finale). 

Rundenabwicklung 

Vorrunde: Ca. die Hälfte aller Paare qualifiziert sich direkt 

für die nächste Runde. Die restlichen Paare tanzen eine 

Hoffungsrunde, von denen sich ca. ein Drittel für die 

nächste Runde qualifiziert. In den folgenden Runden bis 

zum Finale werden abhängig von den Kreuzen jeweils bis 

zu ca. die Hälfte der Paare weitergewertet. 

In der Regel qualifizieren sich 6 Paare für das Finale. 

Abhängig von der Verteilung der Kreuze dürfen nicht 

weniger als 5 und nicht mehr als 8 Paare im Finale tanzen. 

(Ausnahme: wenn weniger als 5 Paare am Start sind) 

Ablauf der Endrunde 

Wenn weniger oder mehr als 6 Paare das Finale erreichen, 

entscheidet der Turnierleiter über die Anzahl der gleichzeitig 

tanzenden Paare.

General rules 

There are no props allowed. 

It will mainly be danced in dancing posture, with onehand 

or double hand position counts as a dance posture. 

Lifts (leaving the ground with the help of the Partners for 

more than one beat) are not allowed. 

Rating in preliminary, hope, intermediate and final round 

In the preliminary, hope and intermediate rounds it will be 

rated with crosses and in the final rounds it will be rated 

with placements. The jury will rate the slow and quick 

rounds as an own dance each. The calculation of the placements 

will be done with the help of the Skating-System. 

Rating guidelines 

The jury will be asked to rate positively! 

Technology (dancing qualifications, technical execution, 

beat / rhythm, synchronicity), 

Choreography (steps / movements / combinations, harmonic 

musical transposition, spatial design, room layout, effects) 

and 

Image (stage presence and charisma, the couple’s harmony, 

authenticity / originality) will be judged equally. 

Showdance competitions

At the Standard and Latin Show Dance Tournament there 

will be one category without age limit (18+) 

A team is a group of 7 or more persons. 

Generelle Regelungen 

Es sind keine Requisiten erlaubt. 

Es soll überwiegend in Tanzhaltung getanzt werden, wobei 

Einhand- oder Doppelhandhaltung auch als Tanzhaltung 

zählt. 

Hebefiguren/Lifts (das Verlassen des Bodens mit Hilfe des 

Partners über mehr als 1 Taktschlag) sind nicht erlaubt. 

Wertung in Vor-, Hoffnungs-, Zwischen- und Endrunde 

In den Vor-, Hoffnungs- und Zwischenrunden wird mit 

Kreuzen und in den Endrunden wird mit Plätzen gewertet. 

Die Wertungsrichter werten die Slow- und Quickrunden als 

jeweils eigenen Tanz. Die Ausrechnung der Plätze erfolgt 

nach dem Skating-System.

Raumaufteilung, Effekte) und 

Image (Bühnenpräsenz und Ausstrahlung, Paarharmonie, 

Authentizität / Originalität). 

Showdance-Wettbewerbe

Beim Standard und Latein Show Dance Turnier gibt es eine 

Klasse ohne Altersbeschränkung (18+) 

Ein Team ist eine Gruppe von 7 oder mehr Personen.

Rules 

The Standard or Latin dance show programs should have 

their focus either on Standard or on the Latin American 

dances, however, it may also be offered a mixture of both 

styles with a focus on one style. Tools, such as for example 

fans, poles or chairs, etc. are not allowed. 

The programs must not be longer than 6 minutes including 

entering and leaving. 

Only the main part of the performance is rated, entering 

and leaving do not count in the ratings. 

The warm up time for the teams will take place according 

to a previously published plan. The teams will have the 

possibility of carrying out a dance rehearsal in the ballroom 

to their own music. 

A chairman will be assigned who will ensure the compliance 

of the rules. 

The music and choreography that will be shown during 

the rehearsal is the one being relevant in the tournament. 

Music and choreography may not be changed after the 

rehearsal. 

Musicality and variety of the dances and pictures will be 

assessed in addition to the originality, the overall impression 

and the choreography. Additional rating areas are 

technique, appearance and entertainment value. Elements 

of the Equality Dancing are expected and are not just for 

variety, but also to the evaluation field technique. The 

entertainment value is determined by the feedback from the 

audience, the originality and creativity of the concept and 

story, or the subject. 

The music on an audio CD labelled with the name of the 

group (CD with one title) has to be handed over to the 

tournament officials no later than the day of the tournament 

at 10.00 a.m. Each group should carry a copy of their 

phonogram with them. 

The rules under which this tournament is played are consciously 

set as broad as possible, as the organizers want to 

encourage potential participants to attend the competition 

and demonstrate alternatives to couple dancing in the 

context of the Gay Games. 

Regeln 

Die Standard oder Latein Show Dance Programme sollten 

ihren Schwerpunkt entweder im Bereich Standard oder in 

den lateinamerikanischen Tänze haben, es kann allerdings 

auch eine Mischung aus beiden Stilen mit dem Schwerpunkt 

auf einem Stil dargeboten werden. Hilfsmittel, wie z.B. 

Fächer, Stöcke oder Stühle etc. sind nicht erlaubt. 

Die Programme dürfen inklusive Ein- und Ausmarsch nicht 

länger als 6 Minuten betragen. 

Nur der Hauptteil der Darbietung wird bewertet, Ein- und 

Ausmarsch zählen nicht in die Wertung. 

Die Eintanzzeit für die Teams wird nach einem vorher 

veröffentlichten Plan stattfinden. Die Teams werden hier 

die Möglichkeit haben, im Saal zu ihrer eigenen Musik eine 

Saalprobe abzuhalten. 

Es wird ein Chairman bestimmt, der auf die Einhaltung der 

Regeln achtet. 

Die Musik und Choreographie, die während der Stellprobe 

gezeigt wird, ist die im Turnier relevante. Musik und 

Choreographie dürfen nach der Saalprobe nicht geändert 

werden. 

Musikalität und der Abwechslungsreichtum der Tänze und 

Bilder wird neben der Originalität, dem Gesamteindruck 

und der Choreographie bewertet. Zusätzliche Wertungsgebiete 

sind Technik, Erscheinungsbild und Unterhaltungswert. 

Elemente des Equality-Dancing werden erwartet und 

zählen nicht nur zum Abwechslungsreichtum, sondern 

auch zum Wertungsgebiet Technik. Der Unterhaltungswert 

bestimmt sich durch das Feedback vom Publikum, die Originalität 

und Kreativität des Konzepts und der Geschichte, 

bzw. dem Thema. 

Die Musik auf einer mit dem Namen der Gruppe beschrifteten 

Audio-CD (CD mit 1 Titel) muss der Turnierleitung spätestens 

am Turniertag um 10.00 Uhr vorliegen. Jede Gruppe 

sollte eine Kopie ihres Tonträgers bei sich tragen. 

Die Regeln nach denen dieses Turnier ausgetragen wird, 

sind bewusst so weit wie möglich gefasst, da die Veranstalter 

mögliche Teilnehmer zur Teilnahme ermutigen und 

Alternativen zum Paartanzen im Kontext der Gay Games 

aufzeigen möchten.

Individual Line Dance 

There are three divisions (levels of difficulty) to choose from:

In the individual divisions one to three dances can be 

performed. 

All dances will be judged individually. Each dance is danced 

in groups of up to max. 8 dancers. The best of each of the 

respective dance groups will compete against each other 

again to determine the winner of the respective dance. Only 

the participants who dance all three dances in the selected 

division can win an extra prize for the overall victory. 

Participants 

Dancers compete with each other no matter the age or sex.

The rules of the International Association of Gay/Lesbian 

Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC) apply to the Line 

Dance competitions in the, at the time of the Gay Games

Bei den einzelnen Divisionen können ein bis drei Tänze 

getanzt werden. 

Alle Tänze werden einzeln gewertet. Jeder Tanz wird in 

Gruppen bis zu max. 8 Tänzer/innen getanzt. Die besten 

der einzelnen Gruppen des jeweiligen Tanzes werden dann 

noch einmal gegeneinander antreten um den/die Sieger/ 

in des jeweiligen Tanzes zu ermitteln. Nur die Teilnehmer, 

die alle drei Tänze der gewählten Division tanzen, können 

einen Extrapreis für den Gesamtsieg erringen. 

TeilnehmerInnen 

Tänzer und Tänzerinnen treten gegeneinander an, egal 

welchen Alters oder Geschlechts.

Mixed couples competitions 

Standard and Latin 

The mixed couples tournaments of the Gay Games VIII Cologne 

2010 are supposed to be „fun tournaments“ and are 

open for all dancers who are registered for the Gay Games 

Equality Dancing competitions. 

One age category (18+) 

Respectively one category, 5 dances 

Standard: 

Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slowfox, Quickstep 

Latin: 

Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive 

It is possible to sit out one or more of the 5 dances; this 

couple will receive the worst placement in the respective 

dance. 

Registration 

Applications this can only be made in person on site (not 

via the online registration system of the Gay Games). Registration 

is possible at the accreditation at the information 

desk „dancing“ in the Accreditation Centre the earliest and 

on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the tournament venue at 

check-in the latest. On registering for the Mixed Couples 

tournaments partners have to state first and last name, Gay 

Games Cologne registration number, nationality and place of 

residence and training emphasis. 

The organizers would like to point out that a DTV tournament 

couple with a current DTV-start card has to get a special 

permit from the DTV (DTV = German Dance Association) 

in order to participate in this competition.

Anmeldung 

Anmeldungen können nur persönlich vor Ort vorgenommen 

werden (nicht online). Die Anmeldung ist frühestens bei 

der Akkreditierung am Infostand „Tanzen“ im Akkreditierungscenter 

möglich und spätestens am Donnerstag, 

den 5. August 2010 am Turnierort beim Check-In. Bei 

der Anmeldung zu den Mixed Couples-Turnieren sind von 

Partner und Partnerin Vor- und Nachname, Gay Games 

Cologne-Registrierungsnummer, Nationalität und Wohnort 

anzugeben. Die Ausrichter weisen ausdrücklich darauf hin, 

dass ein DTV-Turnierpaar mit aktueller DTV-Startkarte zur 

Teilnahme an diesem Wettbewerb selbst eine Sondergenehmigung 

beim DTV einholen muss. Aktive Turnierpaare 

anderer Nationen sind ebenfalls selbst für die Einholung 

einer solchen Sondergenehmigung verantwortlich, falls eine 

solche notwendig ist.

from Hungarian Dance Academy, and founded her own dance school in 1998, where 

she teaches all levels of grown-ups and children. Besides Latin and Standard she has 

recently picked up a new, yet rare dance in Europe, the Brasilian Lambada Zouk. She 

returned to competitions in 2006. Her partner is Mihály Kiss, who is also known to the 

same-sex danceworld. They are Senior Hungarian Champions and are currently no. 17 

on the world ranking list. She has been actively involved with same-sex dancing since 

2005, as judge and teacher. 

Benjamin Soencksen (USA) is originally from Germany. He can look back at a career 

of over 40 years in the world of dancing, having gained experience by studying, 

teaching and performing all styles and learning about their history 

For the past 16 years, Benjamin has also been actively involved in the same-sex 

partner dance scene. He competed in 2 Gay Games, 2 Eurogames, and various 

competitions in Europe and the US. This culminated in a 4th place at the ten dance 

Championships of the Gay Games 2002, in Sydney, Australia. Since then he retired 

from actively dancing. But he continues to be involved as a judge He also acts as an 

advocate for this sport, which led him to help start up DAGE (Dancesport Alliance for 

Gender Equality) in NYC, and he is currently serving on the Board of NASSPDA (North 

American Same-Sex Partner Dance Association, a member of GLISA and the FGG). 

Christa Fenn (Germany) was an international finalist (World Cup, European Championships, 

German Championships) in ballroom dancing for many years before she 

started to teach. Open to new influences and based on a very sound knowledge of 

ballroom dancing, her students (German, World and Blackpool Champions) call her 

the best ballroom teacher and the Grande Dame of ballroom dancing in Germany. 

Without doubt, she is one of the greatest inspirations to ballroom dancers and an 

experienced judge of national and international amateur, professional and same-sex 

dance competitions and championships. 

Davy Brocatus (Belgium) has been a ballroom dancer since the age of 15, dancing 

professionally from 1995 to 2000 and being and international judge since 1996. He 

has been judging e.g. in Australia, South Africa, America, Europe, EuroGames Utrecht 

(NL), Outgames Montreal (C), Gaygames Chicago (USA). He also judged on the Belgian 

Television Series of “Strictly Come Dancing”. He is now a busy member of the organisation 

team EuroGames Antwerp 2007 and founder of World Outgames Antwerp 

2013. Davy lives in Antwerp with his husband Anatoly Nefedov (Russia and former 

Musical Principal dancer).

Dirk Heidemann (Germany), a former Professional Latin-American World Finalist, 

is now member of the German National Trainer Team as the German national youth 

trainer (Latin). He has been the trainer of 5 world champions and over 20 German, 

Spanish, Norwegian and Chinese Champions in Latin and ten dance. 

Dirk is a professor for Dancesport at the Sports University of Zheng Zhou, China and 

member of the Olympic Creative-Committee, China 2008. He also worked as a choreographer 

of the television shows „You Can Dance“ and „German Idol (DSDS)“ 

Felix Castillo (USA), originally from San Antonio, Texas, now lives in Brussels, Belgium. 

He was Rising Star Open British Finalist in Blackpool and came 3rd at the World 

Latin Show Dance in Baden Baden with a magnificent showpiece together with his 

partner Katja Klep. He was also finalist of the United States Pro Latin Championships, 

German Open, Dutch Open and French Open Championships. Felix is one of the most 

renowned trainers of Latin-American dancing in Belgium and travels all over the 

world for lessons and judging. 

Guy Rosen (Luxemburg) was 10-times Amateur Latin Champion of Luxembourg 

and West-European Latin Champion 2004. In addition to this he became 5-times 

Professional Latin Champion of Luxembourg and 3.place of the World Professional 

South American Showdance Championship 2008. He also became sports-athlete 

of the „Section de Sports d‘Elite de l‘Armée (SSEA)“ of the Luxembourgish Army. Still 

competing, he lives in Luxembourg and is now travelling the world as adjudicator 

and trainer, licensed by the International Dance Sport Federation. 

Horst Neumann (Germany) started to dance successfully with his later wife Marga 

in 1968. They became West-German champions in the ballroom section and were 

part of the German national team but had to stop dancing very soon after entering 

the professional field. Since then Horst has been a trainer and judge for the Northrhine-Westphalian 

dance association as well as for the German National Dance Sport 

Federation. He coached many finalists and champions (German,- European,- and 

world champions) and has an outstanding knowledge in the area of ballroom 

dancing, which is the source of his great success in making people understand the 

principles of dancing. He also teaches same-sex couples in Cologne. Besides the 

teaching he has always been a very renowned judge nationally and internationally. 

Irene Hanke (Austria) started to dance when she was 16 years old. She became 

Austrian Champion in ballroom dancing, Vice Champion in ten dance, finalist in 

Latin-American Dance and won the Viennese Waltz competition three times together 

with her partner Helmut Hanke. They even reached the 7th place in the world 

ranking list in ballroom dancing. 

Irene successfully completed the Austrian Education for dance trainers at the 

University of Sports and passed the standard examination of the Allied Dancing 

Association Limited in Great Britain with honour. 

In 2001 she saw her first Equality Dancing competition in Austria and she was so 

impressed, that she decided to organize the “Blue Danube Competition“ in Vienna 

from 2002 till 2005. 

Until now she has taught same-sex couples as well as mainstream couples. 

Irina Foradt (Germany), came from Russia to Germany in 1993. She has been 

dancing since she was 9 and dancing has always been her passion. She was a very 

successful competition dancer, not only in the amateur field, here she reached 3rd 

place in the West German championships, but also as a professional, making the final 

e.g. in the German ten-dance competition. She decided to turn her hobby into her 

profession and has been a busy teacher and adjudicator ever since. 

Kees Goedegebuur (Netherlands)started dancing when he was 14. He became champion 

in ballroom and ten dance in 1988, having danced many competitions in a lot 

of countries in Europe, he became finalist in ballroom in the NADB top class. 

Over the last 5 years he has been judging a lot of competitions in Holland, Spain, 

Germany, Belgium, Greece, Denmark, Italy etc. in same-sex dance competitions and 

also as an IDSF licensed adjudicator. 

He is currently teaching training about 35 competitive dance couples as well as some 

same-sex couples. 

Kriszta Szaka (Hungary) started competition dancing in 1994, both in Latin- 

American and standard. She made her way up to the top classes in ten-dance, and is 

currently competing in Standard Ballroom S-class. 

She participated in several events and TV-shows as a dancer, and as teacher she has 

been involved with many clubs in Hungary, teaching Ballroom and Salsa, WestCoast 

Swing and Argentine Tango. Besides teaching she is continuously attending trainings, 

lessons and workshops. She runs her own dance club for social dancers and competitors 

in Budapest. 

Kriszta has been involved with same-sex couples right from the beginning, training, 

giving private lessons, judging and organising workshops and competitions. 

Luc Richer (Canada) started dancing at the age of 5. Having enjoyed a successful 

amateur career, he turned professional in 1988. Luc took part in the most important 

championships, both at the national and international levels, in addition to having 

been trained by the world‘s top coaches. Holding a fellow certification in Standard 

and Latin, Luc is also a class-A adjudicator. Still active in the ballroom scene, Luc opened 

the first dance studio dedicated to same-sex ballroom dancing in the gay village 

in Montreal together with his boyfriend. He is still coaching talented competitors, who 

contribute to his studio‘s reputation on the national level. A model to his students, he 

recently made a comeback in the competition field in American Style. 

Marco Kiefer (Switzerland), living in Zurich, Switzerland, is an IDTA-certified dance 

instructor (London) as well as a swissdance-certified dance instructor (Switzerland). 

He danced in both ballroom and Latin-American dance competitions for many years 

and is now a top-level WDC and STSV judge.

Oliver Seefeldt (Germany) started to dance in the then German Democratic Republic 

when he was fi ve. After several championship titles in the amateur fi eld, e.g. Berlin 

champion and 3rd place at the German national championship with Anna Karina 

Mosmann, they transferred to the professional fi eld. In the fi rst year they already 

became German Open champions Professional Rising Star Latin, German Latin- 

American showdance champion and reached 3rd place in the World Latin-American 

showdance championship. He was a regular fi nalist of all the major professional 

competitions over the next years since he had to retire in 2005. He has since been 

working as a trainer and judge, massively developing the same-sex dance scene 

with his outstanding creativity and skilled teaching methods. Oliver also appeared 

as the partner of Wolke Hegenbarth in the TV show “Let’s Dance” which they fi nished 

in second place with a magnifi cent performance. 

Pauline Ladiges (Netherlands) is a former Dutch Professional ten dance and 

modern champion as well as former fi nalist of European and World Professional 

Championship in ballroom, Latin-American and ten dance. She is now an international 

dance sport teacher as well as an international adjudicator of Continental and 

World Championships Amateurs Modern, Latin and ten dance. She is also a member 

of the Board of the Dutch Society for Professional Dancesport. Her latest addition is 

the diploma as a Zumba-Fitness Instructor level 3. 

Petra Matschullat-Horn (Germany) was a very successful dancer herself. She was a 

fi nalist of many national and international dance competitions between 1995 and 

2002, including the 2nd place in the German professional ten-dance championship, 

the German ballroom championship and the 7th place at the World ten-dance 

championship in 2002. Since then she has been one of the most successful German 

trainers and one of the best German judges. She is frequently invited to judge international 

competitions since she holds an IDSF license. She has been teaching samesex 

couples for years and was the coach for many Equality dancing champions over 

the past years. She has recently published her latest project as assistant to Geoff rey 

Hearn in his book “A Technique of Advanced Latin American Figures”. 

Sandra Hartl (Germany) started to dance in 1988 after watching the inspiring movie 

West Side Story. She fi nally started her competition dancing career in 1994 and 

quickly became successful as vice champion of the West German championships in 

Latin-American and even champion of the West German championships in ballroom 

dancing. 2002 she transferred to the professional fi eld and shot up to place 3 of the 

German ranking list. She has been working as a trainer in the same-sex dancing 

area for several years, judged her fi rst Equality dancing competition in 2004 and 

has since been an active supporter of the scene. 

Simone Assböck (USA), has a long dance history and broad dance background. 

She began ballroom dancing in Cologne when she was 7 years old, and competed 

successfully for over 10 years in the Latin-American and standard divisions. Within 

that time, her achievements and titles ranged from German State Champion, to being 

a fi nalist in the European dance community. Simone, now living in New York, is the 

new North-American female vice-champion, New York State vice-champion and 

North-American female showdance champion having won all 1st places at the 

2008 5-Boro Dance Challenge. She became a professional judge and dance coach. A 

master’s degree in Physical Education with the focus on Modern Dance and Rehabilitation 

rounded out her expertise in movement and dance. Simone has also appeared 

on television shows including ABC News, NBC‘s Today Show and has been featured 

in Walt Disney‘s Production “ENCHANTED“. Simone also teaches and showcases partner 

dancing on ExpertVillage.com and Lance Armstrong‘s LiveStrong.com. 

Dr. Tatjana Steinborn (Germany), born 1974 in Cologne, studied and graduated 

as a doctor of medicine and works as a pediatrition. For many years she danced with 

her husband Michael both in the Latin-American and ballroom sections in the highest 

amateur class. As a very experienced judge she possesses the highest German license 

in both sections. 

Tibor Kocsis (Slovakia) has been an amateur S-class standard dancer since 1992 

and turned professional in 2004. He danced until 2009 and ranked 2nd couple in 

standard in Slovakia. From 1991-1997 he was a member of the national formation 

team, Interklub Madit Bratislava, European and World Champion and Blackpool 

fi nalist. 

A judge at the 2008 Eurogames in Barcelona and 2009 World Outgames Copenhagen 

Tibor Kocsis is an examined trainer and judge through the Slovakian National 

Dance Federation, and he has taught both opposite sex and same-sex competition 

and social dancers.

Vernon Kemp (UK) is a Fellow and Senior examiner in all ISTD Dance Sport Faculties 

and holds a current adjudicator’s licence with both the British Dance Council and the 

World Dance Council. 

After a dancing childhood, he started with Tap at 4 ½ and Ballroom at 10, he went 

into full time dance teaching after graduating with an Honours degree in Geography 

and Education. 

Despite running a busy school in central London, dealing with all levels of dancers 

from beginners to professionals, he enjoys the opportunities he has to travel to teach 

and adjudicate. Teachers he has trained in London now work in many countries 

throughout the world. 

Vernon has enjoyed training successful same-sex competitors and judging worldwide 

including Gay Games, Out Games and Eurogames. 

Currently he is Chair of United Kingdom same-sex Dance Council and Male Co- 

President of the European Same-sex Dance Association. 

Moderation 

Mette Bugge (Denmark) started to dance in 1972 and came to the same-sex 

dancing scene in 1999 with her wife Tina Sunshine. She retired in 2007 but kept 

actively involved in the same-sex dancing scene by teaching and moderating dance 

sport events. Since 2001 she has been teaching in the Copenhagen dance club 

PanDans and co-founded the Nordic Open competition together with Niels Henrick 

Hartvigson. She acted as presenter for Berlin Open, Eurogames Barcelona, Tivoli Goes 

Gay and other major events. She was also involved in the organisation of World 

Outgames Copenhagen in 2009 as the project manager of the volunteer section. 

Niels Menge (Germany) started to dance in the Equality dance scene in 1998 together 

with Armin Lohrmann. They made the men’s latin A-fi nals in all major dance 

competitions between 1998 and 2006, e.g. Gay Games Amsterdam, Gay Games 

Sydney, Gay Games Chicago and Outgames Montreal before they retired in Montreal 

in 2006. Since then, Niels has turned to teaching and judging and presenting 

events, e.g. Berlin Open or Eurogames Barcelona together with Mette.
