“It means a false clue,” Christina explained.
“Something meant to mislead you.”
“Well, I don’t have a choice except to hope
that this clue is trying to help my dad,” Alex insisted
hopefully.
“Maybe we should tell your dad,” said Grant.
“No way,” said Alex. “He’s upset enough
already. He loves his job at Historic Jamestowne. It
would be terrible if he lost it, not to mention losing
his reputation.”
“I agree,” said Courtney. “It’s a close-knit
community around here. Maybe that guy didn’t
want us to know who he was, but he wanted to help.
I say we explore the clue and see where it leads us.”
“Spoken like a true detective!” said Christina
with admiration. “I concur.”
“Well, I don’t understand the need for all the
espionage,” said Alex, “but I’m ready to try to find
the thief on my own.”
“I don’t know who S.P. Onage is,” said Grant,
“but we will help you, Alex.”
The other kids laughed and Grant looked
puzzled. However, Grant often knew he had the last
laugh when it came to mystery-solving, so he just
shrugged off the teasing.
