“So what have you found, Joe?” Grant<br />
asked again.<br />
Joe grinned. “Oh, about a million things or so!”<br />
That answer silenced the kids. “Well, the<br />
place is 400 years old and we’ve been digging<br />
awhile,” Joe explained. “During all this time, we’ve<br />
found everything from pots to weapons, as well as<br />
about 80 burial sites. And now we’ve unearthed<br />
part of the original location of James Fort, built by<br />
the first Englishmen to come here.”<br />
Joe waved his arm around at the site and the<br />
many artifacts on display. The kids looked up, down,<br />
left, and right, realizing that there was a lot here to see.<br />
Grant stooped down and whispered, “And<br />
what about the missing S-K-E-L-E-T-O-N-S?”<br />
“Grant!” Christina said. “I think Joe and<br />
everyone else listening knows how to spell skeletons.”<br />
“I know that!” Grant grumbled back to his<br />
sister. “But Joe says it’s all H-U-S-H—H-U-S-H!”<br />
Joe just shook his head. “Uh, why don’t you<br />
guys follow me to my office and I’ll catch you up on<br />
the events.” He turned and climbed out of the site<br />
area and the kids followed close behind, trying to<br />
see everything they could on the way.<br />
The archaeologist’s office was just a small<br />
area behind a wall, but it was cool, with its<br />
45
