“Our grandchildren are a handful,” said
Mimi, looking sadly at her good shoes.
“He has to be housebroken,” said Papa. “And
fed. And bathed. And all those doggone things.”
“We will! We will!” promised Grant and
Christina together.
“Gruuuuff!” said Clue.
When Papa suggested that the kids take Clue
outside for a walk, they were very eager. Now that
he was their very own bloodhound clue-hunting
mystery dog, they were ready to get to work. As
quickly as they could, they hurried back to the
tobacco patch.
“Ok,” said Grant, “what are we supposed to
be sniffing out here?”
“The clue doesn’t tell us that,” said Courtney.
For a few minutes, they walked up and down
the rows of green-eared tobacco leaves.
“It’s hard to believe something this pretty
ends up as stinky old cigarettes,” said Christina.
“Or snuff!” said Courtney.
“Let’s look for bones, please,” pleaded Alex.
For awhile, they saw nothing suspicious, until
they reached the last plant on the final row. There,
attached to a stalk with gardening twine, was
another white note.
