Norfolk Art Collective
A Norfolk art collective is set to take part in a collaboration with The Munnings Art
Museum from 9-13 September.
Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle was established in 1885 following Crome & Cotman’s
famous Norwich Society of Artists and boasts Sir Alfred Munnings as one of its founding
members. Now, the group is teaming up with the museum dedicated to Munnings and
his work to mark their strong links with the artist.
The group, which boasts more than 200 professional and amateur members, will
display a range of artworks in various mediums – including painting, 3D and sculpture –
and on various subjects.
The exhibition will take place at The Munnings Art Museum in Colchester and will be
staged in a marquee in the grounds of the museum. On Sunday 13 September it will be
complemented by a live demonstration by artists Sue Williams and John Shave in the
garden. Entry is free. www.nnartcircle.com
New East End Gallery Display at The Sainsbury Centre
The Sainsbury Centre has announced a new East End gallery display of two alabaster
stone sculptures by Anish Kapoor: ‘Involute, 2017’ and ‘Untitled, 2010’.
This is presented as part of a major exhibition on show across the grounds and historic
interiors of Houghton Hall.
Anish Kapoor is considered one of the most important sculptors working today. Born in
1954, Kapoor started exhibiting his seminal pigment works in the early 80s and rose to
prominence as part of the New British Sculpture movement.
The two alabaster works that Kapoor has selected to show at the Sainsbury Centre
have been created through the carving process of negative space into positive form;
they demonstrate Kapoor’s interest in the void of deep dark space and the interior state
of the object.
The works are free to view. www.sainsburycentre.ac.uk
