At Home with Eilidh

Whether you are exploring locally or further afield, with a little pre-planning you can

leave only your footprints behind and it will save you money too.

Backpack

You will need a decent sized bag to be

able to carry water bottles, snacks and

everything else with you. Don’t try and

cram it all into an oversized handbag as

it will weigh you down. If you have kids,

as they get older, they can carry their

items in their own backpack!

Don’t forget your

reusable water bottle

This saves us so much money, and with

more places joining schemes like Refill

Bedford, it is now easier than ever to fill

your water bottle up when you are out

and about. If you like your water cold,

opt for an insulated bottle.

Hand gel

At the moment hand gel is a must. Check

out Proverb, who offer a refillable plant

powered hand sanitizer or Evolve, whose

organic liquid hand sanitizer comes in a

glass bottle. Both companies give one for

everyone you buy to charities, those on

the front line and people most in need.

Mini first aid kit

Put together a little first aid kit with as

many natural and plastic free items as

you can. Aloe Vera is good for stings and

rashes, whilst bamboo plasters are not

only eco-friendly but great for anyone

with sensitive skin.

Pack snacks

It’s not a fun day out with hangry people

so make sure you pack snacks and

lunch if you are planning on staying

out for longer. Try to opt for making

your own sandwiches than buying

pre-packaged ones, and any packaging

you do end up with, take home to be

recycled. If you do stop for a coffee and

cake, try out independent places rather

than large chains.

Wipes

If you’re taking wipes with you, then the

best option is either using a pre-made

wet set or taking a couple of dry flannels,

old cut up squares of material or bamboo

rounds. You can wet with water as

needed either with some water from

your bottle, a tap or a spray bottle. Pack

a mini waterproof bag to store any used

wipes in to take home and wash. If you

really can’t give up on wet wipes, try to

get genuinely biodegradable ones and

never flush them!
