Make the most of the colourful trees and crunchy leaves with a

walk around the East Anglian countryside complete with a cosy

pub pitstop.

Woodbridge, Suffolk

This is one of the most dog-friendly towns in the East. Most

cafes, pubs and stores are happy to welcome pooches; the

King’s Head even has a ‘mutts menu’ and doggy wall of fame!

Take a walk along the River Deben and Martlesham Creek

before stopping off for coffee and cake at one of the many

cafes. A short 10-minute drive away is Rendlesham Forest,

famous for its UFO trail and beautiful walks. Nearby, start a

circular walk at The Ramsholt Arms pub. The one-hour walk

from the pub leads through fields and country paths. Starting

and ending at The Ramsholt Arms, it’s a great walk to finish with

a pub lunch.

Audley End Park, Essex

Located in the pretty town of Saffron Walden, Audley End Park

is an extension of the grounds of English Heritage’s Audley

End House. The park is free to enter and runs alongside a

golf course. During autumn the park offers a stunning display

of colourful trees and corn fields. Enter via the Abbey Lane

entrance; here there is limited free parking, alternatively you can

park at the nearby Swan Meadows Car Park. There are varying

lengths of circular walks. Once you’ve worked up an appetite

head into town for a bite to eat at one of the many pubs or tea

rooms. The Eight Bells, Tea Amo and Kim’s Tea Room are all

dog-friendly.

Wells to Holkham, Norfolk

Starting at Wells-next-the-Sea, enjoy an autumnal coastal walk.

If you carry on past the iconic beach huts, eventually you will

reach the sands of Holkham. Visit the beautiful Holkham Estate

or simply return along the Norfolk Coastal Path and through

the pine forest back to Wells. Warm up at Wells Beach Café

which provides water bowls and a tap for washing sandy paws.

Alternatively head to the Quayside and tuck into fresh seafood

or fish and chips!

Grantchester, Cambridgeshire

A firm favourite with dog walkers year-round, this tiny village

offers a beautiful country path along the river – perfect for dogs

who love to swim! Wander around the pretty village where

the ITV drama is filmed, before heading down to the river and

walking along the footpath. Take in beautiful scenery and the

free roaming cows. The river gets muddy so make sure you

have appropriate footwear. The Red Lion is a great option for

lunch – remember to make a reservation as it can get busy!

Letty Green, Hertfordshire

Park at The Cole Green Way and explore the rail trail that runs

from Hertford to the edge of Welwyn Garden City. The old

railway line, with streams and plenty of shade, is popular with

dog walkers and is a great way of working up an appetite before

your trip to the local Cowper Arms pub. The pub offers a biscuit

bar for dogs and a good choice of food for humans too!

TOP TIP! Remember during autumn you’re more likely

to see pheasants and deer, so dogs who like to chase

are best kept on a lead!
