LIFESTYLE
It’s been a surreal year, but finally, life is adjusting back to normal as venues and
attractions open their doors once again. We might have missed out on summer
fun, but event organisers are ensuring we have an autumn to remember as pop up
events get set to welcome visitors in a new way…
Heritage Open Week,
11-20 September
More than ever the region’s historic attractions need our support, which is why it’s
great to see the return of Heritage Open Days. For one week during September,
heritage locations across the UK welcome visitors for behind the scenes tours, talks,
exhibitions and more. This year there’s the added bonus of digital events so you
can enjoy the experience from your own home. The theme will be ‘Hidden Nature’
offering the opportunity to discover the nature on our doorsteps, explore areas
usually closed to the public and discover the history of the region’s gardens, parks,
vineyards, farms and forests. To find out which venues are participating visit the
website at www.heritageopendays.org.uk
Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival,
12 September
One of the most popular events in the city’s calendar; stand on the banks and
cheer on teams as they paddle to the beat of the drum! It’s an action packed race,
with over 40 teams battling it out over the 200m race course. Watch at the Ditton
Meadows location for a good view of the action and plenty of bank-side family
entertainment.

Luna Cinema,
21-27 September
Enjoy a film under the stars with an outdoor cinema experience at Hatfield House.
Taking place from 21 to 27 September at 7.30pm, you can watch classics such as
‘Back to the Future’, ‘Dirty Dancing’ and ‘Grease’, and recent blockbusters such as
‘Joker’. Socially distancing measures will be in place to keep guests safe. Pitches
will have more space than usual, chairs will be sanitised after each screening and no
food will be served, however you’re welcome to bring along a picnic!

Knebworth Decorative & Salvage Fair,
19-20 September
A great fair to browse and pick up quirky and vintage items for your home and
garden. The fair attracts dealers from around the country offering an eclectic mix
of decorative pieces and furnishings. It’s best to arrive early if you want to bag a
bargain. Cash is key and don’t forget your tape measure!

Mrs Cromwell’s Kitchen – Autumn Harvest,
7 October
Check with the venue or event
before you visit about the
safety measures they have in
place and whether you have
to pre-book in advance. Please
keep social distancing rules in
mind at all times.
Step back in time in Ely for a taste of the past. Taking place at Oliver Cromwell’s
House, Mrs Cromwell will be in the kitchen serving up old recipes such as beef with
rose hips. Local guide and food historian, Nora Gardner, will be on hand to teach
you more about the variety of flavours and ingredients, and how food has changed
over the centuries. You’ll also be able to take part in a tasting session of authentic
recipes from the 17th century as well as some of the modern equivalents.
