LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN
“TechXtile Start-Up Challenge”
– the concept where high tech,
added value products and
export targets meet
As a prestigious world brand in almost
all segments of the textile industry
Turkish products are preferred for their
added value and quality rather then their
prices. Strengthened mainly in only the
clothing and home textile industry 15
years ago, Turkey stepped forward with
value added, smart and technical textile
products to compete with cheap products
arose notably from Far East. As a world
brand in all these specific segments
Turkey has been a country preferred to
source products especially in the contract
market.
Investments in technical textiles grow
exponentially in Turkey in recent years.
Many companies in the field of technical
textiles prove their global success by
playing an important role in the international
market. In parallel with the
developments in the world markets, production
of technical textiles and product
diversity gradually increase in Turkey.
TechXtile Start-Up Challenge
To increase added value in exports in the
textile sector, to gain new technologies
and methods to the industry, do design
innovative products, to encourage new
initiators and designers and to empower
industry-academy cooperation, an important
event is organized by UTIB titled
“TechXtile Start-Up Challenge” for the
11th time in Bursa, 22-23 October 2019.
The finalists will win a lot of advantages
and awards including participation in
Startup Incubators and Accelerators Program
in Milan for 10 days, mentorship
support for one year, opportunity to win
TRL 200 thousand from TUBITAK in
the framework of ULUKOZA Program,
meeting expenses of establishing a company,
one year accounting works support,
and getting the benefits of the advantages
of Incubation Center of Bursa Technical
University.
Applied as a first in the sector and
forming an excellent example for whole
industries by Uludag Textile Exporters’
Association (UTIB) with the support of
Bursa Eskişehir Bilecik Development
Agency (BEBKA) and Bursa Chamber
of Commerce and Industry (BTSO),
the event “International R&D Project
Market in Turkish Textile and Apparel
Sector”, will be held at Merinos Atatürk
Congress and Cultural Center this year
with its new concept, 22-23 October
2019.
We have recorded significant successes
in realizing R&D activities supported
by commercializing of project ideas and
innovation in our event organized with
the cooperation of university-industry
for ten years. However, with an aim
to push the exports and the textile and
ready made garment industries of our
country further, we will accept project
applications focused on initiation-oriented,
commercializing nature and directly
applicable in the industry from our
initiative nominees.
During our preparation processes
performed strictly and supported by field
activities, we had a chance to know the
industrialists better and to understand
what they really expect from us. This way
we formed the fields and focus of the
projects directly with the expectations of
the industrialists.
We will continue as “TechXtile Start-Up
Challenge” with our new concept where
high tech, added value products and
export targets will meet. We will train
PINAR TAŞDELEN ENGİN
President, Uludag Textile Exporters’ Association
project applicants from the first process
of our organization and we will lead them
to contribute to the export targets of our
country.
We have been offering contemporary
services by supporting the promotion of
our industry with events on the one hand
we have been rendering efficient services
with the media wing on the other. We
have been carrying the messages of
our exporters to the right addresses
through the rich and professional
contents of TFF and Contract Business
magazines. We will be at Intertextile
Shanghai, Heimtextil Russia and The
Hotel Show Dubai fairs with this issue
of CONTRACT BUSINESS. I wish
success to all of our industrialists and
business partners. serving the industry
with activities on innovation, value added
products and contemporary designs.

become a venue to show the union of
forces of Turkish exhibitors as every
year. She stressed that the Turkish
textile and apparel industry was the
strongest sector of the country, Engin
detailed, “Turkish textile and apparel
industry has come to a position not to
compete in cost-competition category
countries but compete with countries
which have high investment budgets
for R&D, innovation, design and
high-tech.”

fashion brands and UTIB member
companies held bilateral discussions.
Bringing global leaders of the textile
industry together with fashion
professionals, the fair has a key role
in setting the 2019-2020 autumn/
winter season trends.
“Turkish textile is leading
in production, design and
exports”
Attending the fair, Pınar Taşdelen
Engin, Chairwoman of the Board
of UTIB, said that the fair has
become a venue to show the union
of forces of Turkish exhibitors as
every year. Engin explained further,
“Constituting one of the most
important competition advantages
of the Turkish economy, the Turkish
textile industry has been keeping
its leading position in production,
design and exports. Italy takes the
top of the list of our exports and
Germany and the USA follow it.
This fair is important for us to
continue our exports and for our
sector which is in pursuit of new
markets.”
“Turkish textile has reached
to an important position with
R&D and innovation”
Pointing out that the Turkish
textile and ready-made garment
sector is among top-ten in terms
of production, Engin analyzed
further, “Turkish textile and apparel
industry has come to a position
not to compete in cost-competition
category countries but compete
with countries which have high
investment budgets for R&D,
innovation, design and high-tech.
Our industry successfully exports to
markets such as EU and USA where
there is a harsh competition. We
maintain our success and assertion
to be among the largest textile
manufacturers of Europe. Besides,
we have necessary knowledge and
experience in technical textiles which
are preferred in many areas requiring
high-tech from defense technologies
to wind energy for being enduring
and light. We will improve our
work and activities in this field and
increase the share of Turkey in the
textile industry. We will continue
with important progresses in design,
fashion and technical textiles.”
“Turkish textile is an industry
followed by the world for its
trends”
Stressing that the textile and apparel
industry was the strongest sector of
Turkish economy, Engin highlighted,
“Turkish textile is an industry
followed by the world for its trends.
We witness this fact at Turkish
textile fairs as well. Our fairs attract
interest of industry professionals
coming from around the world.
For this reason a great sum of trade
is generated at the textile fairs
organized in our country.”

Intertextile
Shanghai Home
Textiles emphasizes
more on contract
business
Uludag Exporters’ Association (UTIB) organizes the Turkish national
participation in Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles Autumn edition
with 22 exhibitors displaying a broad range of products including
bedding & toweling, decorative fabrics (upholstery & curtain), sun
protection systems, wall coverings, carpets & rugs, outdoor textile
products and household products.
Despite the fact that China’s
economic development has been
stabilizing in recent years, the
ongoing ‘consumption upgrade’
and diversified market demand are
still driving growth in the home
textiles industry. In response to the
ever-changing market environment,
this Autumn’s Intertextile
Shanghai Home Textiles, 28 – 31
August, continues to enrich its
show offerings, presenting more
quality suppliers, contract business
exhibitors and finished products for
visitors.
Increased emphasis on
contract business
The Contract Business 360o concept
received much recognition in the
2018 edition as around 16% of
visitors reported interest in contract
business products. In order to
facilitate buyers’ sourcing process,
contract business exhibitors will
be highlighted this year at the
fairground with clearer signage.
There will also be a diverse range
of events including a forum and
display area that will help fairgoers to
20 August/2019
understand different contract textile
products and the derived business
opportunities.
More finished products to
cater to market demand
Being Asia’s leading trade platform,
Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles
offers a comprehensive range of
home textiles and accessories. Apart
from abundant decoration fabrics,
finished products are receiving
much attention in recent editions.
As per the fair’s visitor statistics,
the interest towards finished home
textile products has increased by
around 10% in the past four years.
“I am impressed that more exhibitors
are using diverse finished products
to present an overall impression.
Compared to the companies
showcasing fabrics alone, these
suppliers are more attractive,” Ms
Liu Yuan from Shenyan Space
Design said at last Autumn fair.
Given this growing demand, more
suppliers have decided to take
advantage of the fair to showcase
their finished products. Naturtex,
Jaspa Herington, Silkland and
Weihai HengTai Woolen Blanket are
just a few of the confirmed exhibitors
to date. Visitors can expect to source
more finished products this edition,
ranging from bedding products and
carpets & rugs to finished curtains
and more.

ARCHITECTURE
Planning that Fits Large,
Small and Medium-Scale
Investors...
Aiming at forming connections at
4 main points with the historical
city of Bukhara and directing the
existing population density of the
city to this area, Studio Vertebra will
be constructing a new city centre
in the mid-section of the Bukhara
City project site, on an area of
65 thousand sqm, consisting of
socio-cultural buildings such as a
science centre, museum, library and
conference centre as well as green
space. By dividing commercial and
residential property sections, which
will be located around the centre,
into smaller parcels, the plan is to
ensure that the project is suitable
for not only large-scale investors,
but also small and medium-scale
investors. Residential property blocks
of varying heights are positioned
around the spaces created with
courtyards and green areas between
the residential properties, in order to
ensure that interior spaces enjoy both
sunlight and breeze and also benefit
from service areas such as parking
lots.
With day-care and childcare centres
that are planned to be located at
an equal distance to the residential
properties, the project also includes
a commercial street with commercial
buildings consisting of 1/2-storey
offices to be located on top of
shopping areas on the ground floor,
as well as two hotel projects on both
ends of the street.
A Modern Urban Fabric that
is shaped with the Local
Culture and Suits the Climate
Conditions...
Intending to enhance quality of life
with the use of water between the
buildings, by taking into account
the very hot climate conditions of
the area, Studio Vertebra plans to
renovate the already existing water
conduit and take the water into the
city boundaries, as well as to the
spaces among the buildings and to
public spaces, by designing small
and large pools and modernizing
28 August/2019
the pool-building relations that
are unique to the region and have
an important place in Bukhara’s
historical identity. Transforming the
city centre which is currently open
to traffic into a fully pedestrianized
area, the project also contemplates
the construction of a nostalgic tram
line system for tourists, elderly and
disabled people.
The project, which will be adopting
a planning approach that preserves
Bukhara’s city silhouette in its
historic urban fabric and the storey
heights in the city, will be shaped
with colours, fabric, materials and
structures that are inspired by the
symbolic historical landmarks of
the region. Project costs are also
intended to be reduced by making
use of the concrete plants and
railways located within the project
site, during construction stage and
for transport purposes.

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Investment
opportunities in
Mexico
There’s not the slightest doubt that Mexico is a country of great
opportunities for foreign investors in various industries.
Mexico officially the United
Mexican States is a country in the
southern portion of North America.
Mexican society is characterized
by extremes of wealth and poverty,
with a limited middle class wedged
between an elite cadre of landowners
and investors on the one hand and
masses of rural and urban poor
on the other. But in spite of the
challenges it faces as a developing
country, Mexico is one of the chief
economic and political forces in
Latin America.
The country has become a very
attractive emerging market for
foreign investors. As the Latin
America’s third largest economy
after Brail and Argentina with a $1.3
trillion GDP and with a population
of approximately 120 million, placing
it as the 13th largest in the world,
Mexico ranks 13th in terms of
purchasing power parity worldwide,
and it is the 11th largest exporter
worldwide.
32 August/2019
Why Mexico?
Mexico is one of the most
competitive countries in the world
for productive investment due to its
macroeconomic and political stability,
low inflation, size and strength
of its domestic market, economic
growth rate and capacity to produce
advanced manufacturing (high-tech
products).
Mexico is also an open economy that
guarantees access to international¿
markets through a network of free
trade agreements. The country boasts
a strategic geographic location and
competitive costs to service global
markets, as well as a highly–skilled,
young workforce.
33
INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Compared to most developed
countries, Mexico's economy is
heavily export-based with 31.5% of
its gross domestic product (GDP)
from industry and 59.8% from
services, as of 2015. Meanwhile,
the OEDC and the WTO both
rank Mexican workers as the
hardest working in the world in
terms of annual hours worked and
profitability per man-hour.
The economy is also making strides
when it comes to increased private
ownership and favorable business
regulation. In 2012, President
Enrique Pena Nieto was elected to
office promising big changes to the
way the country was run. Since then,
Mr. Nieto reduced corporate taxes,
broke up monopolies, and liberalized
its energy industry.
Foreign investments are mostly
concentrated in towns neighboring
the U.S border where many assembly
factories are located, as well as in the
capital. Thanks to its robust tourism
industry, the Yucatan Peninsula
also receives substantial foreign
investment. Investment mostly comes
from the United States and Spain
(especially the banking sector).
Other sectors receiving significant
foreign investment are finance,
the automobile industry and the
electronics and energy sectors.
Mexico’s most promising
sectors include: agriculture;
agribusiness; auto parts and
services; aerospace; education
services; energy; environmental
technology; franchising; housing
and construction; packaging
equipment; plastics and resins;
security and safety equipment and
services; information technology;
transportation infrastructure
equipment and services; and travel
and tourism services.
Mexico’s standing as a leader in
the global manufacturing market
has been long established, even
amidst increased global competition.
A big number of Fortune 500
companies and other multi-national
companies have turned to Mexico
34 August/2019
in an attempt to cut manufacturing
costs. The automotive industry in
the country has boomed in recent
decades, becoming the fourth largest
auto exporter. It recently surpassed
Japan as the second-largest US auto
parts exporter. Some of the world’s
largest automotive companies such
as Volkswagen, Toyota, Daimler,
General Motors, Nissan and BMW
have decided to maintain or increase
their production in Mexico recently,
or have announced their intention
to do so, regardless of the external
factors surrounding the US market.
The country has signed 32
Reciprocal Promotion and Protection
of Investments Agreements with 33
countries, 10 free trade agreements
with 45 countries, nine partial scope
and economic complementation
agreements within the framework
of the Latin-American Integration
Association (ALADI), and is
a member of the Trans-Pacific
Partnership Agreement (TPP).
The country actively participates
in multilateral and regional
organizations and forums like the
World Trade Organization (WTO),
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
(APEC), the Organization for
Economic Cooperation and
Development (OECD) and the
Latin American Integration
Association (ALADI).

TRAVEL
Sleeping under
the stars
watching the
sky at ‘Wadi
Rum Desert’ in
Jordan!
Among others there are two flash points
and incredible experience values in Jordan.
They are the country’s two biggest tourist
draws: Petra, one of the 7 wonders of the
world, and the nearby desert of Wadi Rum.
36 August/2019
Apparently untouched by humanity,
Wadi Rum desert is a place of tranquil
isolation and simplicity. It must be
a unique and thrilling experience
sleeping in the desert, Bedouin-style,
surrounded by thousands of twinkling
stars untainted by artificial light
pollution.
This area of Jordan is quite isolated
and largely inhospitable to settled life.
The only permanent inhabitants are
several thousand Bedouin nomads
and villagers. There is no real
infrastructure, leaving the area quite
unspoilt. Apart from the Bedouin goat
hair tents, the only structures are a
few concrete shops and houses and the
fort headquarters of the Desert Patrol
Corps. British spy Lawrence spent a
significant amount of time here during
the course of the British-inspired Arab
Revolt against the Ottoman Empire
during the First World War (1914-
1918).
Wadi Rum is a short detour from the
Desert Highway between Amman
and Aqaba. A side road leads to the
entrance where you will find the
Wadi Rum Visitors Centre, a police
office and a lot of potential guides
offering camel and 4x4 treks. There
are several options for exploring Wadi
Rum, and visitors should head for the
Visitors’ Centre where they can gather
information about the tour operators
that would best suit their needs.
The genuine attraction of Wadi Rum
is the desert itself, best seen by fourwheel
drive, pick-up truck or on a
camel. Some visitors only spend a few
hours in the Wadi, but it's definitely
worth taking a guided trip of several
days duration, staying overnight in
Bedouin camps in the desert.
Sleeping experience under
stars watching out the sky
Also known as The Valley of the
Moon, Wadi Rum, the largest
37
TRAVEL
valley in Jordan, is a valley cut into
the sandstone and granite rock in
southern Jordan, 60km to the east of
Aqaba. It has been inhabited by many
human cultures since prehistoric
times, such as the Nabateans, who
left their mark in the form of rock
paintings, graffiti, and temples.
Khaz’ali Canyon is one popular spot
to visit, with petroglyphs etched into
the cave walls depicting humans
and antelopes dating back to the
Thamudic times.
The Wadi’s 74,000 hectares of
primeval landscape were designated
a Unesco World Heritage site in July
2011.
There are several options for
exploring Wadi Rum, and visitors
should head for the Visitors’ Centre
where they can gather information
about the tour operators that would
best suit their needs.
Campsites are the order of the day
around Wadi Rum. Camping can
range from a goat-hair blanket under
the stars at an isolated Bedouin
camp to a luxury air-conditioned
pod. You can even pitch your own
tent in designated areas (enquire
about locations at the visitor center).
The camping locations are selected
according to the time of year, the
weather, and the hiking tour type
chosen.
Despite the online marketing
literature, the camps all offer a very
similar experience with a similar
level of comfort and activities. The
Bedouin camps all conform to
38 August/2019
certain standards and are checked
regularly. There are two types of
camps – permanent (which usually
have toilet-shower blocks and operate
year-round) and temporary (used only
occasionally by Bedouin groups or
tourists).
The Wadi Rum camps are best
booked through the visitor center or
through local guide operators, either
in advance (especially if you want
to stay at a particular camp) or on
arrival.
You can enjoy an overnight stay
in inflated bubbles which are very
comfortable and cozy, and the view
is simply breathtaking. There is
an outside patio – relax area, an
entrance with a double door (to avoid
the lost of pressure of the bubble),
a main bubble with a comfy huge
bed and a small bubble with the
bathroom (toilet and shower). It is
the ideal combination of comfort
and immersion in the nature. Enjoy
watching stars! There shouldn’t
be any parallel to this unmatched
fun at any modern premises or rich
amenities. When visiting Wadi Rum,
remember to bring something warm
to wear at night as temperatures can
vary from a daytime average of 32°C
down to 4°C at night. The meals
at the camp are very delicious and
satisfying. Made by the camp's private
chef, traditional Jordanian food,
mostly including meat and vegetables,
is cooked in a charcoal-filled pit dug
deep into the desert sand. Then it is

served in one of the luxury tents or
under the sky full of thousands of
brilliant stars. It's not an experience
one can forget easily.
Petra: walking back in time
tunnel
Petra, a Jordanian wonder, is also
listed among the “seven wonders
of the world”. It has immense
archaeological, historical, and
architectural value that makes it a
jaw-dropping tourist attraction. The
water conduit system and the rockcut
architecture are the two most
notable features of this ancient city.
Petra is also nicknamed as the “Rose
City” due to the stone color from
which it is carved. Petra is not only
one seven wonders of the world but
is also a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. It is also listed as one of the "28
Places to See Before You Die” by the
Smithsonian magazine.
The entrance to Petra awes visitors
today, as it has for centuries. Your
path might curve through the Siq,
a cleft in the rock lined with ancient
water channels and dotted with
prayer niches, Roman paving stones
underfoot. The clop of horses’ hooves
echo until suddenly, the intricately
carved facade of the Treasury sliced
through the shadows, rearing more
than 40m up.
In the sandy plaza, vendors hawked
their wares in a cacophony of
English, German, Spanish and
Russian. A throbbing generator
announces modern civilization: lights,
refrigerators, restaurants... Donkeys
bray, camels snort and contemplation
give way to commerce.
From the Petra Church, with its
floor of Byzantine mosaics, the city’s
layers of Greek, Roman, Egyptian
and Nabatean influences are clearly
visible. The marble columns of the
recently unearthed Blue Church seem
incongruous in a cityscape of russet
and ochre. Everywhere there are
locals with something to sell: Petra
of old is a business center, and Bdoul
Bedouins have kept the tradition
alive.

Turkısh contractors assocıatıon ıssued comprehensıve constructıon sector analysıs
for the second quarter of 2019 that covers macro economıc data and some remarks
Turkish contractors undersigned
$ 5.1 billion projects abroad.
Year-end target is $ 20 billion
Turkish contracting
firms focused on
abroad to overcome the
increasing difficulties in
domestic market.
Turkish Association of Contractors
(TMB) published July 2019 issue
of its Analysis of Construction
Sector, which is followed closely
by economic circles and by the
construction industry. The report
has macro and micro economic data
brought together on global and
national scale.
In the Construction Sector Analysis
titled “Economy is the Next”, it is
underlined that Turkish contracting
companies are focusing more on the
projects abroad due to the increasing
difficulties in the country. 109
projects have been undertaken in
“Overseas Contracting Services”
amounting USD 5.1 billion in
January-June 2019 period. Thus, the
number of projects undertaken so
far has exceeded 9,700 and the total
project value amounted USD 386
billion,” says the report.
“The current outlook is interpreted
to mean that the sector will undertake
10 thousandth project abroad this
year and will reach the level of USD
20 billion in earnings it has achieved
in 2018” the report underlined.
44 August/2019
“High value-added projects
needed”
In the report, it is asserted,
“Ensuring that our contractors
are involved in high value-added
projects is another priority. In order
to further strengthen our position
in the international markets, it is
important to increase the awareness
of our companies and to strengthen
the technical consultancy sector by
increasing the scale of the firms.”
Under the main headings "The
World", "Turkey" and "Construction
Sector" summarized in 28 pages,
Turkey Contractors Association
Construction Sector Analysis covers
the following topics:
IF QUARTERLY ECONOMIC
CONJUNCTURE IS
ASSESSED ACCURATELY, A
MORE POSITIVE PICTURE
CAN BE DRAWN: Monetary
expansion-oriented decisions in the
US and the European Central Bank,
can pave the way for more optimistic
outlook in terms of both currency
rate and inflations for the renewal
of Turkey’s foreign commitments of
USD 177 billion if the conjuncture
is assessed accurately. In this sense,
positive expectations about the global
outlook for funding will be required
while Turkey's seize opportunities.
CONTRACTION IN THE
SECTOR CONTINUES: The
contraction in the construction
sector, which is the driving force
of the economy, started last year
and continued in the first quarter
of this year. The sector contracted
by 5.6% and 8.7% in the last two
quarters of 2018 and contracted by
10.9% in the first quarter of this
year. TurkStat's January-March 2019
GDP data revealed that the largest
contraction in the main sectors was
in construction. The sub-index of
construction activities for the last
three months decreased from 95.6 in
January 2018 to 61.5 in September
and became 59.9 in December. The
index, which is an indicator of the
contraction in the sector, decreased to
55.4 in June 2019.

SIX THOUSANDS OF FILES
ARE EXPECTED TO BE
FINALIZED IN JULY: There
are serious uncertainties and
difficulties regarding the liquidation
/transfer /extension arrangements
for the contractors whose works
have come to a standstill due
to high cost increases. Unlike
previous practices, the Ministry of
Treasury and Finance is required
to evaluate the applications made to
employer administrations. Within
this framework, it is expected that
the applications of approximately
6 thousand files submitted to the
Ministry of Treasury and Finance
will be finalized. In addition, in
order to avoid similar problems for
the coming period; determining a
realistic price difference calculation
method that will not only aggravate
45

both administrations and firms
and reflect fair price fluctuations
in the market is among the priority
demands of the sector.
STRUCTURAL
REFORMS SHOULD BE
IMPLEMENTED: With the
completion of the elections and
the developments in the US on the
S-400 issue, political uncertainties
were partially left behind; it is time
for decisive steps to be taken to
solve the problems in the economy.
Medium and long-term structural
reforms aiming to make the economy
efficient and resistant to shocks need
to be implemented.
TURKISH BANKS SHOULD
BE EFFICIENTLY
PROMOTED: Letters of
guarantee and counter-guarantee
problems of our contractors have
increased in many markets abroad in
the recent period. For the solution,
it is important that the Turkish
banking system and Turkish banks
are promoted effectively and steps
are taken to ensure that the letters
of guarantee to be received from our
banks are accepted directly in these
markets and that the issue is brought
to the agenda in official contacts.
FIVE TO SIX BILLION
DOLLARS FROM RUSSIAN
MARKET: Since 1972, Russia
has maintained its leading position
with a share of 19.7% from all our
overseas projects. It is foreseen that it
is possible to approach the potential
project amount of average of 5 - 6
billion USD/year realized in Russian
market in 2012-2015 period.
IMPORTANT SHARE IN
TAGO - Maldives Sports Complex
IRAQ'S RECONSTRUCTION:
The introduction of a “peace
economy” in Iraq is of great
importance. Within this framework,
Turkey Contractors Union (TMB)
"Iraq's Reconstruction for Turkey -
Iraq Civil Forum" was organized in
Baghdad. The latter is an ongoing
work in the direction of the Forum
to be held in Turkey. It is considered
that Turkish contractors can get a
significant share in the joint working
46 August/2019
experience of the past from the
reconstruction works expected to
start after the war with the payment
of the accumulated receivables in
Iraq and the completion of their
existing projects.
AFRICAN MARKET OF 2.5
TRILLION: With the African
Continental Free Trade Area
Agreement entered into force on July
7, the world's largest commercial
market, with an economic size of US
$ 2.5 trillion, with 1.2 billion people,
has become a good opportunity.
This development will facilitate the
circulation and expansion of Turkish
products in the continent, which
the construction sector is closely
monitoring as a potential market
for the last period, and support our
contractors undertaking projects in
the region in the input flow.
COOPERATION IN THIRD
COUNTRIES WITH JAPAN:
In the recent cooperation initiatives
in the third countries, it is aimed to
bring together the entrepreneurial
ability of Turkish companies,
especially African and Eurasian
companies, and local market
knowledge with Japan's financing
opportunities and technology. For
TAGO - Sharjah
this purpose, various activities have
been carried out by TMB together
with Japanese Ministry, institutions
and companies.
REAL ESTATE PRICES ARE
FALLING: Real estate prices
and liquidation of stocks are down
in Turkey, in general. Despite the
extended tax incentive by the end
of 2019, housing sales declined in
the first half of the year, and the
uncertainty in the economy made
the picture that supply and demand
could not meet. While sales are
still present in this case the need
for housing in Turkey, due to the
high interest rates of deposits, it is
described as a result of concerns
about falling purchasing power in
the future. Only in the last quarter
of the year, sector representatives can
expect the recovery in the housing
segment if uncertainties disappear
and financial conditions improve.

We made an exclusive interview with
San Deco that recently took its part
in Istanbul Airport project with its
decorative effect paint products. Full
text of the exclusive interview with
Gülperi Odabas, Chairwoman of the
Board of San Deco, follows:
Could you summarize the
story of your successful
brand?
San Deco was established in 1965
in Istanbul, Turkey. During the
first years of establishment, the
company was on the local business
market, manufacturing and selling
several products only. Through the
years, thanks to the intuition and
creativity of the management, and to
the careful selection of the product
range with especially value added
product and its developments, San
Deco expanded and offered different
products and solutions to the market
by also starting the export operation
where the success story begins.
The success of our company is the
result of an outstanding quality
products and services coupled with
a reliable basis for partnerships. We
achieved it with strong values and
commitments. The expert, passionate
and dynamic team of San Deco
also contributes significantly to the
sustainable progress of the company.
Could you mention about
your product range and
production capacity?
As San Deco, we offer products
to our customers in 7+ product
segments by having main activity in
effect paint and coatings. However,
interior paints, exterior paint and
coatings, high performance paints,
acrylic isolation paints, primers and
putties, and hobby paint products
are the other ranges within our
product segments. While we are
serving variety of products through
our customers, we produce with the
production capacity of 28,000 tons
per year in our factory.
You are the first and the only
painting producer that has
A+ certificate in Turkey.
What are the features that
make San Deco different?
Having principle of producing by
never compromising of quality, we
always invest for producing value
added products and their unique
features differentiating us from
the others. A+ certificate is one of
them and allowing us to prove our
products features with having the
right awareness to human health
and environmental responsibilities.
As San Deco, we are the only
effect paint and coating products
54 August/2019
or decorative product producer
having this certification and proud
to offer it to our customers with
minding our responsibilities to them
in highly manner. Nonetheless, A+
is not the only factor differentiates
our product to the others; we also
have the widest range in high-end
effect paint and coatings blended
with the right know-how by offering
unique products in very high quality,
consistent performance, variety
in effects and usage purposes by
also having in affordable prices.
Moreover with all segments we
produce, we make a point of
outstanding quality, in consistency
and reliability all in different
geographies all over the world
with always supporting with our
innovative R&D works.
What are 3 main principles of
San Deco?
‘Beyond the colors’, yes it really is.
Like in our brand motto, we set
ourselves for something beyond
the colors, and we do everything to
make things more than paint, more
than colors. In order to this, as our
principles I can count many of them
which we certainly follow no matter
what but can summarize them in 3
as working always with passion for
what we do, never compromising
of quality and committed for our
customers’ satisfaction.
You mentioned that you are
specialized in “decorative
paint”. What is decorative
paint? What are the reasons
of preferability of it?
Decorative paint with also some
saying as effect paint is a paint leads
you to have textures and effects on
surfaces applied in order to achieve
desired decorative look with its
specific features according to type
of product selected. With having
cutting edge, innovative, artistic
and also many other impact features
allows end user to select decorative
paint and coatings in their interior
and exteriors. Sometimes a designer,
Gülperi Odabas
sometimes an architect or a project
owner or evermore a final end user,
there is always a reason for them to
select decorative paint. Whoever
wants to enhance their vision with
some paint, decorative paint will be
the selection and it will be San Deco!
What kinds of solutions do
you offer to the contract
industry? What are the most
preferred painting varieties in
this sector?
Since operating more than 40
countries in 4 continents, I can
count and order many projects and
tenders San Deco involve within
these countries we are in. With
all the approach and reasons I
mentioned above San Deco adopts,
we are ambitious for any projects
fits for San Deco. With the all
segments we manufacture, we offer
many different projects in interior
design or generally construction
market. Solutions we make are
simple, we offer our products for
the ones differentiate themselves
from others and with also giving the
right support after sales. Through
our segments, since we focus mainly
for textured effect paints and
coatings, addresses seek for high-end
architectural paint projects are the
target and they mostly select from
our range according to their desired
effects such as a premium hotel chain
project where they use our natural
stone effect paint until a government
project use special textures such as
silky metallic coating for all over
their interiors. Apart from decorative
paints, in contracting projects we also
take part in emulsion paint projects
where we offer mainly interior
paint or exterior paint with their
55
PROFILE
supporting products such as primer
or putties. However, I would like to
stress out our contracting projects
in Europe especially France where
we offer high performance roof and
facade paints where we achieve many
housing projects where country
government endorse for renovation.
Do you explain 2019 trends
that overlook at the contract
projects?
It is relatively hard for me to tell
a specific color or product of San
Deco since we involve with many
different cultures and so many
different tastes all over the World
for the countries our product exist.
For instance, European country
tastes for soft colors and light texture
products where another country
taste for colorful and high glossy
textures or etc. But many contracting
projects we involve recently is mainly
selecting loft theme or earthy colors
where current trends follows all over
the world in common.
Could you mention about
contract projects you
provided solutions for?
Like I mentioned earlier, with the
operation in more than 40 countries,
we are delighted to involve many
different contracting projects in
different locations all over the world.
This could be a well-known hotel
chain decorative texture effect project
in Balkan countries or a landscape
paint project in Qatar supported
by government or a well-known
coffee shop chain project using loft
theme decorative texture paint in
Mexico. Apart from that as a local
contracting projects, involving many
different government endorsed
housing projects using decorative
effect paints or emulsion paint as
well as supporting products from
our range. As an example of local
business contracting projects, we
recently took part in Istanbul Airport
project serving our special expertise
decorative effect paint products for
more than 15,000 m2 or a tender
for presidential project where a
museum is being built in Ankara for
loft theme texture paint more than
10,000 m2.
Can you touch on activities
of San Deco in abroad? What
are the countries you export
and you target?

are Albania, Algeria, Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Burkina
Faso, Cayman Islands, Ethiopia,

With the ideology of expanding as

San Deco sets the expansion target to
6 continents and as much as country
to serve in.
Big 5 Dubai, Qatar, Batımat France
Paris or recently Farbe Germany
fair where you can experience
the championship of the paint
manufacturer World. We are proud
to perform there for our country
and present our brand & products.
Moreover, again in many exhibitions
specialized for architectural events
and organizations all over the world.
Are there any investments
you have realized or you will

As San Deco, for our export

investments can be listed as direct

development into the business.
With our market-oriented product

Domestic and foreign buyers
prefer Loda Furniture for their
contract projects
One of the leading
producers of furniture
in Turkey, Loda
Furniture made
its presence felt in
international markets
with its collections
in design furniture
field. With its line that
reflects Scandinavian
and loft styles Loda is
preferred for several
projects in international
contract projects.
The innovative line of Loda that
follows trends in the world closely
having more than 20 years of
experience in the business attracts
interest not only in domestic market
but also worldwide. We talked with
Davut Karacak, Chairman of the
Board, about the prevailing trends
in the market and latest projects that
they have been engaged with.
Would you mention about the
brief history of Loda brand?
As Loda furniture, a partner of Tech
Design who has been active in the
furniture industry since 2000, we
opened our first branch in Modoko
Istanbul in 2013. At this point, we
have other showrooms in Modoko,
Masko and Bostanci in Istanbul, in
Bursa, the capital of furniture, in
Antalya, the pearl of Mediterranean,
the cosmopolitan city of Izmir and
in Izmit, the rising star of Koceali.
We also have showrooms abroad
in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Palestine,
Belarus, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia,
Georgia, Lithuania and Qatar.
With our furniture produced by
combining technology with human
craft, product portfolio, design line,
quality understanding and after
sales services we are counted among
the qualified furniture producers in
Turkey.
What are your product
categories? What do say
about your line of design?
Dining room, bedroom, berger, sofa,
TV unit, lighting and complementary
models are among Loda’s product
58 August/2019
groups. Loda’s design line reflects
Scandinavian and loft style, while the
product range includes furniture for
all parts of the living spaces. In our
collections, we usually use vintage,
retro fabrics and leather upholstery
products. You can also see solid
wood and walnut frequently in our
furniture. We use natural varnishes
and natural colors to generate a
rustic effect in the living spaces.
What are your export
markets, do you seek the
opportunities to reach new
markets?
We export to 16 countries in the
Middle East such as Saudi Arabia,
Qatar, Dubai, Iraq, Jordan and
Israel, and in Europe to Germany
and Poland. Apart from these
countries, we export to Georgia and
Azerbaijan where we have stores. We
continue our search for new markets.
Our warm contacts are especially
with Russia and America continuing.
What do you owe to the
success of your brand, which
has a wide network of stores
both in Turkey and abroad?
The most important strength of the
sector in recent years was design.
According to the latest data, the
furniture sector, the majority of
which is composed of SMEs, has
managed to become one of the top
5 countries in Europe in terms of
design and patent applications. The
sector has managed to sell furniture
to Italy, which makes the highest
number of applications in this field.
Design is our priority and the biggest
point is to differentiate. For this
reason, we are conducting our studies
for the country market to which we
will go. We are trying to determine
the trends by developing new designs
and tones reflecting the Loda's own
concept. There is a certain standard
in the overseas market. You need
to maintain these standards in
your products and develop a clever
perspective and be different. The
Davut Karacak
situation is progressing in the same
way in our country. This means that
we deliver innovative furniture sector
in Turkey and very assertive about
our different design concept. We
offer unique and pioneering design
products in the modern furniture
line. We have production power
which makes our delivery faster
than others. We produce 100% of
our products in our own facilities
and we also provide project design
services to our customers. We can
produce special products according
to customer's demands. We always
stand by our customers with our
after sales services. In short, we
respond to the changing expectations
of the developing world with a
multidisciplinary service approach
and always maintain our standards.
Can you give us information
about the contract projects
where your furniture is used?
Lately, we have just completed a
villa project in Kazakhstan and a
restaurant project in Saudi Arabia.
We are currently designing and
producing interior furniture of a
hotel in Qatar and the furniture of a
cafe in Dubai. We are able to scale
the collections we have made by
customizing them for individuals and
companies.
What do you think is
necessary to achieve and
sustain success in the sector?
What can you say about the
role of R&D and design in
your business?
59
PROFILE
Innovation, which is a requirement
of the modern era, affects all the
parameters of the sectors and opens
up a new trajectory. In today's
technology rich era, when smart
systems become compulsory, the
furniture industry needs to develop
innovative solutions to achieve global
vision and to keep up with global
competition. The most important
feature that makes Loda Furniture's
success sustainable is the R & D
activities it continues to run without
slowing down. We, as Loda, believe
that innovation will advance both our
brand and the sector in general. We
believe that a furniture sector focused
on R & D, design and innovation
will constitute a very important
force for the future of the country's
economy and therefore we have
significant investments in R & D.
We care that Loda has a “language”
that consumers from all walks of life
want to use to express themselves.
This not only makes us a high quality
and accessible brand in the sense
of the target, but also a pioneer of a
style. The most important aspect of
our concept, which draws attention
among the leading brands of its own
lane with its minimalist and modern
style, stems from its authenticity.
Therefore, we develop the “Loda
design concept” in all our stores
and present this concept to the
appreciation of our users.
Could you tell us about your
investments and new projects
for the future?
The basis of our investment plans
is to expand the store network,
to increase production capacity
and raise the share of exports.
In this context, we moved to our
new factory last year in order
to built a production-oriented
ecosystem with high added value.
We aim to increase our production
capacity by 300% with our new
factory which has turned into an
important production center with
its modernized infrastructure. As
Loda Furniture, we know that
technological breakthroughs that add
intelligence to production processes
will affect and will pave the way for
further changes not only our brand
but also the sector. Another issue
we are sensitive to is the opening
of new stores. Lastly, we opened
our store in Izmir and Izmit and
in Ramallah. We also continue our
growth with getting more dealers for
our products.
Would you tell us about your
innovative products that you
have recently developed?
As a result of our R & D activities,
as Loda Furniture, we have achieved
a significant innovation in the
field of furniture. We integrated
charging technologies with furniture
by integrating the technologies
60 August/2019
that shape the future into the new
generation furniture. With its
wireless charging capability, the
Powerboard can be incorporated
into many furniture groups from the
nightstand to the seat. This wireless
technology, enables people to charge
their phones on wooden panels
without the need for a plug.
What are the trends you
observe in your sector?
Loft apartments with simple, modern
and convenient living spaces have
recently become a trend in luxury
apartments in our country. These
apartments, which generally arise
from the transformation of industrial
areas, garages or hangars into living
space, have started to be included in
luxury projects as demand increases.
These areas, which are usually
located in the lofts, come to the fore
with minimum wall usage, longer
periods for daylight and mezzanine
floors.
Loft apartments have a large area
and wooden furniture comes to the
fore in the decoration. New York,
London, Paris and Stockholm are
prominent cities in loft architecture.
Especially in historically old and
crowded cities, the loft is at the
forefront of architecture in Europe.
The decoration of these apartments
is dominated by a liberal view.
Don't forget that the furniture
chosen for Loft home decoration
can be industrial furniture mixed
with wood. It will add a pleasant
atmosphere to your place.
One of the most important elements
in Loft decoration is lighting. In a
good loft style, large and pleasing
lighting is required. In order to
achieve a masculine structure in
this style, it is necessary to include
vintage retro fabrics and leather
upholstery. The Chester effects that
were applied to the arm portions of
the seats will add a very characteristic
look to the decoration.
What are the fairs you have
participated at home and
abroad? Do you have an
upcoming fair to attend?
Because of the increasing
competition in the 21st century,
producing only quality goods and
services is not an adequate way
to achieve success. In this case, it
becomes an important marketing
strategy for brands to connect
directly with their target audience
and to promote their goods and
services at close contact points. The
fairs, which are centered on the needs
of the consumers and producers has
become the most important meeting
points of modern times, bringing
together both sides and by offering
an advantageous platform for more
business. As Loda Furniture, we find
fairs to be very valuable both for the
development of the furniture sector
and to provide suitable conditions
to generate a high level of business
volume. Within this scope, we
recently took part in the Furniture
Istanbul Fair in Turkey and brought
our new collection together for the
first time. We are also planning to
attend the Isaloni Fair soon.
Finally, what do you want to
add?
Steady demand and sales are the sine
qua non of a company's ability to
survive or maintain its profitability at
the desired level. In this case, doing
business in the current countries are
not enough. There is an obligation
to make the business international.
This situation also reduces the
heavy burden on our state and our
businesses. We have taken the power
of our state behind us in the world,
we have not to left any door of
opportunity un-knocked everywhere
in the world and to empower the
image of Turkish furniture, we give
great importance to promote our
quality products.
In this context, both the Ministry
of Economy, the Istanbul Exporters
Union and the sector representatives
are striving to perform their duties in
the best and most efficient manner.
The purpose of the sector; is to bring
both quality raw material and quality
work force together and to combine
these two indispensable factor in our
designs. With this discipline and
perspective, the sector continues to
grow by maintaining its profitability
day by day. The share and
contribution of exports in making
this growth lasting is enormous.

slope is reduced to minimum levels
are designed as storage areas, which
paved the way for building up an
efficient space.
Finally, Architect MSc Feza
Ökten drew inspiration from the
bond between mother and child
that represents love and trust for
the lighting design entitled Line
Lighting, which received the third
prize in the “Product Design”
category. The piece composed
of a large amorphous solid wood
symbolizes the mother, while the
small piece of wood symbolizes
the child. The led chips placed on
wooden bodies emit light with the
help of partly white and transparent
acrylic rods, while this linear light
represents the energy between
mother and child.

Eco-friendly, sustainable
and innovative polyester
yarn solutions by Korteks
Korteks, Europe's largest integrated producer of innovative
polyester yarns, launched eco-friendly and sustainable
products that were developed by its technological
infrastructure and R&D center.
Korteks accounts for a major part of
Turkey’s polyester yarn products by
itself having an annual capacity of
200 thousand tons in its factory of
335 thousand square meters. Korteks
exhibited its innovative, functional
and value added yarns and many
environmentally friendly products
developed at the R&D center at
EVTEKS fair.
Innovative products from
environmentally friendly
production facility…
In the fair, colorful polyester yarns
produced by using DOPE DYED
technology, which ensures color
continuity in long-term technical
textile projects such as automotive
textiles, were also displayed. Yarns
that dyed with DOPE DYED
technology, which consumes 50 times
less electricity and 1500 times less
water than bobbin dyed production
and is produced under Oeko-tex
Standard 100.
PLA yarns produced with
agricultural products support
sustainability
The curtains developed by Korteks
of PLA yarns that are produced out
of high-starch agricultural products
such as corn and sugar cane were
also among the other environmentally
friendly products.
Production of polyester yarn
with RECYCLED materials
PET bottles that are salvaged used
as raw material in the production
of polyester filament yarn, thus,
waste PET bottles are collected
from the nature, contributing to
environmental cleanliness, and waste
PET bottles are used again in yarn
production to regain to the economy.
The recycling process requires less
energy than traditional production.
As a result, energy is saved. Energy
savings also reduces greenhouse gas
emissions. Reducing greenhouse gas
emissions contributes to reducing
the amount air pollution and water

resources. The Pet Bottle polyester
yarn project, which Korteks launched
with an environmentally friendly
production approach, supports
recycling as well as contributing to a
sustainable future.
Production concept that
protects the nature
Korteks fulfills its responsibility
towards the environment while
producing innovative products. In
order to prevent losses as much
as possible in 95% of the yarns
produced and to reduce the negative
impacts on the environment, it gives
additional features such as color and
flammability to the yarns during
production. Yarns colored during
production are more effective than
those dyed by yarn dyeing or fabric
dyeing in the production. Thus,
the water and heat consumption of
the dyeing process will be zeroed in
fabric production.
Superior performance with
DRY TOUCH ®
Another product exhibited at the
fair, DRY TOUCH®, the certified
performance fabric brand of Zorlu
Holding, provides fabrics that allow
air to be discharged from outside and
moisture to be easily discharged from
inside to outside; provides a visible
ease of use in sportswear, underwear,
denim clothing, work wear and
apparels. Tests have shown that DRY
TOUCH® fabrics absorb moisture
10 times faster than cotton.
In addition to these products,
Korteks offers innovative solutions
to automotive fabric projects and
its yarns are used by domestic and
international fabric manufacturers
in the projects of the world's largest
automobile brands.

A brand new technological
solution to the health hazards
of polluted air: Sercair!
People living in the city spend
about 22 hours of their days indoor
spaces in their offices, homes,
schools and traffic. In these indoor
spaces, materials of high insulation
value are used to save energy.
While the materials used prevent
the natural air passage between
the indoor and outdoor spaces to a
great extent, the materials used in
building construction and object
production, cleaning chemicals,
human factor and many other factors
deteriorate the air quality in indoor
environments day by day.
In indoor environments,
we are exposed to up to
55 times more harmful
compounds than open spaces!
(ASHRAE)
According to the research conducted,
in indoor environments, we are
exposed to up to 55 times more
harmful compounds than open
spaces. As a result of these harmful
compounds, only air pollution in the
houses causes 3.8 million deaths per
year. Polluted weather conditions,
which cause a significant increase
in mortality rates day by day brings
along many health problems such
as asthma, headache, cardiovascular
failures, lung disorders, respiratory
problems, depression and shortness
of breath. Sercair, the software
infrastructure of which is developed
in America to provide a better
quality, healthier standard of living
in indoor areas, conducts analyzes
of temperature, humidity, carbon
dioxide, VOC (volatile organic
compound), carbon monoxide and
particle amount at the same time and
makes the interior air clean without
any intervention.
A first in Turkish market and
world market
Today, various devices such as
dehumidifier, humidifier, ionizer,
air purifier, ozone generators and
UVC lamp are used to regulate
indoor air quality. For a healthy
fresh air outcome, it is necessary to
manage all devices at the same time,
constantly monitor the air quality
monitors and open the window.
Although the process is very difficult
to follow, the costs for maintaining
the ambient temperature increase.
Sercair, a system that eliminates all
these difficulties and improves air
quality by analyzing the air quality
24 hours a day, combines the tasks of
all different air purification devices
in a single device. Sercair, which has
been a pioneer in the world market
and in the Turkish market with these
features it offers to users, also aims to
minimize health problems caused by
indoor air pollution due to usage.
Sercair improves the quality
of life of its users!
Turkey Brand Sales Director and
Board Member Burak Onkardeşler,
who states that Sercair detects the
humidity level of the interior space
with smart humidity sensors and
regulates it in a fully automatic
manner with the humidity units
inside the device and keeps it at
the ideal level, says that thanks to
this feature, the product provides
a comfortable sleep for both babies
and adults and improves the quality
of life of its users. Onkardeşler
who conveys that Sercair that
74 August/2019
traps harmful components with air
purification filters prevents breathing
polluted air, adds that the product
captures dust, pet hair, oil smell,
perfume and detergent odors, pollen,
mold and bacteria that cannot be
seen indoors.
Sercair product features;
• Analysis of temperature, humidity,
carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide,
VOCs and particle content by means
of specially designed sensors
• Cleans the room air with activated
carbon, pollen and hybrid filters
and filters small particles, pollen,
dust, odor particles, animal hair and
bacteria in the air.
• Makes a summary of all indoor
and outdoor air sensor values
on a weekly basis by making a
retrospective evaluation and analysis
• Low power consumption and very
low noise level
• Timely and easy filter replacement
by warning thanks to Sercair.App
application
• Many mode options. Eco,
standard, performance, quiet,
Holiday mode switching
• Easy-to-understand filter change
time
• Possibility of anti-bacterial and
anti-allergenic usage
• Sercair smart app-APP
• Precision air quality sensors
• Dehumidifier and humidification
units
• New Generation Polar Ionizer,

the living space can be monitored
and managed at any time via all
smart devices. In addition, all indoor
and outdoor air sensor values and
detailed retrospective analysis can be
examined through this application.
Eco, standard, performance, holiday
and quiet mode options are aimed
at making the device operate in the
most appropriate way.

PROFILE
Security, comfort and
privacy take shape in the
tourism sector
Touristic towns and city hotels have more comprehensive security by using
less human resources with new generation smart security technologies.
Sensormatic offers an end-to-end solution to the specific security needs
of the hospitality industry, providing guests with a comfortable and safe
accommodation experience
While the traffic of the guests in
the hospitality sector increases with
the summer period, the basic need
does not change both in touristic
residences and city hotels throughout
the year: Providing a more
comfortable and safe accommodation
experience with less human
intervention. To meet this need,
Sensormatic's 25 years of experience
and industry expertise in end-to-end
service is offered through intelligent
security technologies.
The fact that the comments on
the internet and social media have
become the determining factor in
the choice of accommodation causes
the customer experience gain more
importance in hotels and touristic
facilities. Moreover, while ensuring
the satisfaction of the guests, legal
regulations regarding tourism
sector should be fully implemented
and all security measures within
the residences should be strictly
enforced.
Intelligent imaging
technologies and video
analysis
In accordance with legal regulations,
entry and exit records are kept in
all hotels meticulously. However,
especially in holiday resorts,
since X-ray inspection or other
security measures at the entrance
and exits that interfere with the
accommodation experience will
adversely affect the comfort of
guests, security processes in the
tourism sector is largely conducted
through monitoring systems. It
is vital to correctly perceive and
read the detected data in video
surveillance systems and to detect the
possible negativity at an early stage
and to process security scenarios.
Providing the safety of the people
staying in the hotel for business
or holiday purposes as well as
providing privacy for them are
among the primary duties of the
hotel management. The rooms where
the images recorded in the residences
and stored should be well protected
and the authorization of the people
who will reach these images should
be done correctly. Privacy, which is
essential for hotel guests to feel safe,
is ensured through Sensormatic's
advanced authorization and access
control systems.
Artificial intelligence-assisted video
analysis technologies can detect
people or objects by quickly scanning
hours of images recorded in hotels
or tourist sites. Avigilon Appearance
Search is able to quickly detect
forgotten bags or a child who is
separated from his or her family as
a result of its deep analysis of the
images recorded at key points such
as a lobby, restaurant and elevator
where human traffic is intense, and
then alert security teams. In the
video analysis system used up until
today, it was possible to see when the
selected object, the sample bag, was
left there. Thanks to this solution, it
is possible to search the images taken
by different cameras in the same area
and see where the person leaving the
bag came from, when he/she left it
and where he/she went afterwards.
It is possible to have keyless,
even cardless access to hotel
rooms
Especially in city hotels, card
access control systems are used
for safe entrance and exit to rooms
and offices. In some hotels, access
security starts from elevators. The
room cards of the guests are matched
with the floor number of the rooms.
In this way, the person can only go
up to the floor where his / her room
is located and the malicious people
80 August/2019
are prevented from travelling on
different floors.
However, thanks to mobile access
control systems, the room number
is identified on the guest's mobile
device. This way, the guest does not
need to carry a card or key to enter
his / her room.
It is a must to take the
necessary precautions against
fire risk
The hotel management is obliged
to intervene in the slightest incident
occuring in the residences where the
guest traffic cycle is very intense and
customer training is not possible for
fire and similar risks.
Thanks to the continuous operation
of the security systems and the
creation of smart warnings, the
negative incidents occurring in the
building can be detected on a room
basis and necessary security scenarios
can be operated.
Sensormatic's Remote Fire
Monitoring Service provides higher
performance detection and reduces
maintenance and management costs.
Remote monitoring helps to monitor,
maintain and service fire detection
equipment safely and efficiently.
With the technology that reaches
the systems via remote internet
connection, the fire system data
of the facility can be monitored
live and system maintenance can
be performed. In order to ensure
security and solve maintenance
needs, the relevant units can receive
instant SMS and e-mail notifications
from fire systems. Thus, service calls
become at least 25% more efficient.
Customer satisfaction increases as it
is intervened more quickly and in a
timely manner.

the market. That award was followed
by iF and Edida as the symbol of
design. Awarded in innovation field
in line with The Designer Award, the
collection was honored with an award
by Wallpaper too. The collection was
featured by famous French design
magazine Intramuros in addition
to the feature published in British
magazine Monocle.
The Plural collection celebrates
a contemporary version of shared
bathing spaces – we call it ’shared
intimacy’. PLURAL sinks offer a
new ‘experience’ in the lay-out of a
90 August/2019
bathroom: they can be positioned
at different angles on counters and
the floor. You ‘interact’ in your space
now, and with whom you are there.
PLURAL exalts the concept of color
mixing and the non-whiteness of
bathrooms, proclaiming that yes, it’s
OK TO MIX THINGS UP. (Light
grey, beige, anthracite black, mat
white and American Walnut all go
wonderfully together.) The furniture
feeling of its design insures a homey
and domestic environment in your
new bathroom; a vintage ’salotto’ is
more the feeling. New technology
feels at home here too: there are 3
innovative ’syphon systems’ which
enable PLURAL to be so free.

PROFILE
KLEO is proud of realizing the
firsts in the MiniBar industry
By Hatice Unal Bilen
KLEO MiniBar, which has been
exporting to nearly 50 countries since
its establishment, and increasing
its brand value and strong position
with the new product features that
are introduced to the market every
year, continues its R&D and P&D
activities at its fast pace. "We can
make a big surprise at any moment,"
says KLEO MiniBar Sales Manager
Ozgur Yegin. We talked about his
company's targets in domestic and
foreign market.
Can you tell us about your
activities and product
range by introducing KLEO
MiniBar? Which equipment
network do you serve to the
HoReCa sector?
KLEO MiniBar has become one
of the best-known brands. Our
company, working with all national
and international firms, is constantly
updating its products and services
by taking pre-sales and post-sales
feedbacks instead of giving priceoriented
services at the sales stage.
Our product portfolio includes
products such as minibars, kettles,
wooden presentation trays and
luggage stands. We are one of
the few companies in the market
that specializes only in in-room
equipment.
Which sectors and regions do
you address mainly in Turkey?
What is your competitive power
and market share in your
sector?
KLEO takes part in many special
projects such as hotels, dormitories,
guesthouses and hospital rooms,
Ozgur Yegin
such as offices, vehicles, life support
containers, military projects that
require personal use. It is possible to
see a Kleo product at almost every
hotel.
We take part in most of the room
investments not only in health
tourism but also in transportation
and public investments as well as in
private institutions such as banks,
factories and trade unions.
What would you say about
your exports? What is your
company's share in domestic
and foreign markets?
Kleo has been exporting nearly to 50
countries since its inception. Since
we take place in very serious projects,
our international market share is
increasing day by day. It maintains its
brand value and its strong position in
the country.
What determines your
production criteria? Can you
tell us about your quality
standards?
A +++ low energy consumption
and low volume models are preferred
in mini bar projects. This is due
92 August/2019
safety will be on the agenda in the
following years.
to the fact that the rooms are more
convenient and they are designed for
easy use of room equipment.
While hotels often prefer room
equipment for competition at global
standards, in recent years they have
started to focus on green, secure,
easy to clean and hygienic products.
Products that are healthy and easy
to clean, that provide ventilation,
sound insulation, electrical and fire
Can you tell us about your
R&D and P&D activities?
The feedbacks we get from our
suppliers constitute our most
important R&D resource. What is
important is the evaluation of our
products, services and innovations.
In this respect, we are among
the rare companies in the sector,
which maintains the highest level
of bilateral relations with corporate
buyers. Therefore, in light of the
information received, our R&D and
P&D activities are progressing very
rapidly.
For example, in 2016, we added
RTC (Real Time Clock) to our
Ekovat (Mini Compressor) System
Mini Bar, which has energy class A
+++, in line with the returns from
ANFAS Fair 2015. Our Ekovat
System Mini Bar has 2.5 times
better cooling power compared to
our Absorbed System Mini Bar and
consumes 6 times less energy. Thus,
we are proud to be the first and the
only company to produce A +++
products in energy class in the sector.
"Quality-oriented products
should be preferred not the
price-oriented"
In recent years, including some
major brands, the main product
groups, in order to accelerate the
entry of the market, imported icecold
mini refrigerator products from
China designed for personal retail
users, and offer them as a minibars
in the sector.
It is important to ensure that the
products in private and public
hospitals do not have a freezer. This
is one of the most important
differences between
minibar
and mini-fridge. There is no
ice box in the minibar. We make an
effort to explain the very important
differences about this to the
investors. Quality oriented products
should be preferred. Function is
more important that investment
costs. Considering the costs, by
having long-lasting products serious
savings are obtained.
In line with our targets, we increase
our production capacity and number
of personnel. We started to produce
Turkey's first 20-liter minibar at
the request of an international hotel
chain.
The Kleo MiniBar is recognized
every year as a company launching
new product or a new offering.
Our R & D and P & D activities
continue to last. We can make a big
surprise every moment.

its new brand:
Massimo
Specialized in the carpet business
for more than 35 years, Taşkiran
Family is well known in the industry
with Dolce Vita brand offered a new
brand to Turkey. Stating that they
would be exhibiting their new brand
Massimo at Domotex Gaziantep,
Metin Taşkıran, Dolce Vita Carpet
Board Chairman said that they
aimed at presenting the models and
collections of the brands in the best
possible way.
First of all, could you inform
us about your new brand
Massimo? Can you tell us
the launching purpose of this
brand and its difference from
other brands?
Massimo was established to take its
place among the brands we define
as “Luxury Brands” in the world.
The product line is made only with
natural yarns with an aim to build
up a world brand as a first from
Turkey with Premium and Custom
94 August/2019
Made carpets. Unlike other domestic
brands, our brand is the first in its
class in Turkey by producing from
natural materials such as Tencel,
viscon, bamboo, wool for the luxury
segment of the jet, yachts, hotels and
houses in the special patterns and
special sizes.
How much investment did
you make for your new
brand? What’s in Dolce Vita
collections of 2019?
We’ve made the highest investment
Massimo to compose a global brand
in Turkey and worldwide. We made
a wide range of products including
design not only from Turkey but also
from India and Egypt. In designing
these collections, we have enhanced
our collections in many different
styles such as modern, classic,
vintage, art deco by taking into usage
habits and being customer-oriented.
You are an active
company in online
sales and social media
usage. How much of
your sales in the domestic
market are made online?
Today, social media is the most
important channel for expressing
themselves of brands. Being aware of
this fact, we do product promotions
for young, social responsibility
projects and occasional gift draws.
We also transfer most of our
advertising to the social media. We
use online sales in the domestic
market to improve our brand
awareness, not for profit. Our first
priority in this issue is to protect our
dealers from the low price danger on
the internet.
Anything else you’d like to
add?
We make a great investment in
branding and exports to contribute to
the national economy at a time when
our country is currently in economic
trouble. We promise to work harder
for our country with the awareness
that our salvation as a country passes
through composing Turkish brands
in the world.
What are the features for
kids’ vulnerability in Dolce
Vita Kids collection?
Our main priority in Dolce Vita
Kids collection is to produce carpets
that do not affect children’s health
and do not contain carcinogens.
Our products have very important
features for example they are lint-free
because fluffs damage children and
patients with asthma.
