helping quench the thirst of this very
fast machine.
After a quick coffee and samie stop
in De Rust, we headed off in the direction
of the beautiful icy mountain in the
distance and towards Meringspoort.
I was told that this section of road
was even better than Outeniqua, and
the views were simply breath-taking,
and they were indeed. Holy moly,
what a stunning place. I felt bad and
ashamed that I, as a born and bred
South African, never even knew this
place existed. Shame on me, but I was
determined to make up for lost time.
After about 6000 laps up and down
through the mountains I finally parked
the ZH2 on the side of the road to
take in the sights and sounds. Hearing
those booming Ducati V4’s symphonies
bouncing off the mountain walls
was something I will never forget – I
could have stayed there all day and
just closed my eyes and let my ears
get off on that oh-so-seductive sound.
Life was good, and I was taking it all
in and even though the green mamba
was acting like a kid on too much sugar
on more than one occasion, more
often than not it was the perfect companion.
It’s a really good machine, just
please, if you do get one respect the
power on hand as it is more than most
can actually handle.
Another fantastic day riding came to
a close and after a very chilly ride back
to Fancourt it was time to light up the
braai, get warm, and enjoy great company,
food and beverages (as we call
it) once more. Bodies and minds were
tired after an eventful day, so it was
early to bed ready for a day of something
a bit different – Scramblers!
