Half-way through 2014 we got the
news that Kawasaki signed the now
five-time consecutive world champion,
Mr Jonathan Rea. As fans we
thought we were in for some monstrous
battles that would stand the
test of time. But as of late, with
Rea’s total domination, this has not
been the case.
The duo of Rea and Kawasaki
were so dominant that no one could
hold a candle to them. Ducati spent
four years trying to claw their way
back to the front and hold on to
the beast that was Rea. First there
was Davies who tried and tried but
could not consistently beat Rea. After
Davies couldn’t get the job done
the Bologna based factory decided
to bring in Marco Melandri, again
with little to no success.
Enter, Alvaro Bautista. After he
lost touch with the MotoGP boys the
Spaniard decided to take a crack at
the World Superbike Championship
with Ducati.
As soon as the season started
things were interesting! Finally, a
rider who seemed fast enough to
take on the then four-times world
champion and maybe even give
him a taste of his own medicine.
After the first few races it seemed
that Bautista already had one glove
on the title but Bautista, like all the
others, caved under the pressure
of Rea. No matter who they hired
it seemed that there was nothing
Ducati could do.
Does Redding have what it takes
to tame the Bologna bullet? Only
time will tell if the domination of
Rea will continue, Let’s hope not
because this season is shaping up
to be one for the history books
