Maintenance Instructions Sheepskins
Regular Care
• Regular comb the wool to maintain a nice, soft appearance.
• Small dirt can be blotted with a damp cloth, try to keep the leather side as
dry as possible.
• It’s possible to let the sheepskin air outside.
• If necessary, you can vacuum the sheepskin on low power.
We do not recommend washing the sheepskin! The leather side may stiffen when it
has been wet.
If however you still want to wash the sheepskin, use the following instructions:
• If you have a steamer, only steam with foam for wool cleaning.
• Hand wash only in cold water, possibly with a little amount of a mild liquid
detergent.
• Shake and wring the sheepskin to remove the excess water.
After washing, follow the below drying instructions.
Medicinal Sheepskins
Due to a different tanning process, medicinal sheepskins can be washed in
contrast to regular sheepskins. Use a wool wash program, a little amount of
wool wash detergent can be added if necessary. However, we still do not
recommend to wash the medicinal sheepskins often. Sheepskins tend to be selfcleaning
due to the lanolin in the fur. Combing, beating the dust out and airing a
coat is generally sufficient. Washing will remove lanolin from the wool and
stiffen the leather side.
Drying
Let the sheepskin dry at room temperature and stretch the sheepskin often
during drying to remain the flexibility of the leather.
Do not use a tumble dryer, sunlight or any other direct heat source!
Dyed Sheepskins
These can only be treated with dry cleaning methods to prevent colour fading
or colour release. Try to avoid direct sunlight as well. Brushing and vacuuming
are great solutions!
