Discussion of Findings<br />

This survey has entertained the idea that students perceive interaction and<br />

communication to be factors to be taken in consideration within the e-learning<br />

process. Therefore, within a technology-enhanced e-learning environment the<br />

communication technologies used, need to be evaluated by the facilitator and the<br />

following questions should be asked:<br />

• Are the learners as well as the facilitator skilled in using communication tools<br />

such as e-mail, chat rooms, bulletin boards, etc.?<br />

• Is the subject facilitator utilizing the appropriate communication tools?<br />

• Does students have problems accessing these communication tools?<br />

The findings supported the following perceptions:<br />

• An increase in course workload which supports statements by authors<br />

(Piccoli et al., 2001) and (Rossiter, 1999).<br />

• Learners find learning to be more fun and interesting with e-learning and<br />

information are easily accessible and easier memorized. This supports the<br />

author Alexander’s (2001) argument that technology-enhanced e-learning<br />

would improve the quality of learning.<br />

• There has been an acceptance of the Inter<strong>net</strong> and an increase in World Wide<br />

Web (WWW) technology usage in tertiary institutions. (Sheard et al., 2000).<br />

A majority of the respondents in this study used the Inter<strong>net</strong> 20 or more times<br />

per month.<br />
