Booklets.I use Cormorant Garamond, and the family of bold and italics, for every emotion’s booklet.The use a singular font for every emotion was intentional in attempts to relate to theidea of emotional experiences within humans. These emotions, no matter how meek ordestructive, are what make us innately human. Cormorant Garamond creates this singularvoice to relate to each reader and allow them to view these booklets as cohesive aspects ofa single person rather than exclusive concepts.When I began making the spreads, I wasextremely fixated on making the narrativelegible and giving each piece the attention itdeserved. The top spread on the right showsone of my first drafts. While aestheticallypleasing and compelling, it doesn’t make youfeel anything. To grow from these, I lookedback towards David Carson and KatherineMcCoy to see how I could use my photographsand text together to create a beautifulexperience.The final spread for that block of text nowlooks how it appears on the right. When Ibegan manipulating text, I weirdly got veryanxious. It pushed me out of my comfort zoneas an artist and a reader. I had to work tounderstand what the spread was saying and Iwasn’t even quite sure if it looked good. In theend, it didn’t matter if anyone else thought itlooked good, it matter if I thought it embodiedrage. Each of these booklets continuedthe experimentation I felt during the piecesexcept now it was digital.
