District unveils hybrid plan

The Oakwood Unit District #76 unveiled their reopening plan on August 12 and it

was unanimously approved by the school board.

Around 85% of the high school students chose to be in-person learners this year,

causing the district to move to a hybrid schedule with A-L students attending on

Mondays and Thursdays. M-Z students will attend on Tuesday and Fridays. Wednesdays

will be Oakwood Remote Learning School days for all District students.

College Express starts on Aug. 24

Some OHS juniors and seniors

will be returning to DACC

for their College Express classes

this semester, although there are

some changes from year’s past

due to COVID-19.

Students enrolled in College

Express classes will have their

first day on August 24. College Express

students are expected to be in

class EVERY day, Monday through

Friday. Classes will run from 12:30

to 2 p.m. each day.

OHS will NOT be providing

transporation to College Express

this year.

Booster Club could use your help

The OHS Booster Club is ready to begin another

year supporting the athletic teams and they could use

your support.

The group meets just once a month, at 7 p.m. on the

first Wednesday of the month. Next month’s meeting

will be September 4.

In past years they have provided assistance to each

of the school’s programs.

They have bought golf bags, re-surfaced the soccer

field, helped purchase the gym scoreboards, purchased

training equipment for football, uniforms for

softball, patches for championships, pins for letterwinners,

and many other things.

School lunch

accounts

Lunches may be purchased by

completing a payment through

E-Pay on our website (www.oakwood76.org)

or sending money

with your child to the school.

If you are sending a check,

please put the child’s name on the

memo line of the check. Checks

should be made payable to “Oakwood

High School.”

We encourage payment by

check when sending money to

the school because it serves as a

dated record of payment.

If you must send cash, please

enclose it in an envelope with the

student’s first and last name on

the envelope.

Free and reduced lunch applications

will be available in the

school office and on our school

website.

FOOD SERVICE CHARGES

Daily $ 3.05

Weekly $15.25

Extra Milk $ 0.50

Clear backpacks

available in office

Students may still carry normal backpacks to and

from school, but they must remain in the locker, as in

years past.

However, since travel distances between classes may

be longer due to one-way traffic, and since the administration

is trying to reduce the number of locker visits,

students may want to carry a backpack.

To ensure student safety and to help them carry the

books, clear backpacks are allowed during the school

day this year.

The office is selling the backpacks for $10 if a student

would like to buy one.

September 1 and the Purple group will have their photos

taken on September 3. The remote learners will be

able to come to OHS on Sepember 2 between 8:30 and

Project Success will continue with in-person program

Project Success is a before- and

after-school program offered at

OHS. We are happy to announce we

will be having in person program

this year.

The program offers homework

help and tutoring along with enrichment

activities for the students. Program

hours are 7 to 8 a.m. and 1:50

to 3:50 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday,

Thursday & Friday. Students must

fill out an enrollment packet to be in

the program.

We will be following the school’s

attendance policy. Students can

only come to program the days they

are in-person learning at OHS. They

can however receive help virtually

on the days they are not in school.

We will have staff available before

and after school to have on-line

meetings for those students.

All students who attend in person

programming are required to wear

a mask the entire time they are at

program. We will also be following

social distancing guidelines.

Project Success welcomes all stu-

dents and we encourage you to join!

Packets can be picked up at the high

school in the office or the library.

If you have a student who is doing

all remote learning and would

like to be enrolled, please email

ohscoordinator@vcproectsuccess.

org and we will email you an electronic

packet to fill out. There is a

packet at the back of this newsletter.

If you have any questions, please

email Mrs. Matte Lee at ohscoordinator@vcprojectsuccess.org.

OHS creates outdoor learning and eating areas

In order to help with social distancing rules, OHS has

created a variety of outdoor eating and learning areas

across its campus. Thanks to the local businesses and

community members (Owens Excavating, The Dairy

Barn, Deejay Tiernan, and Connie Young) that donated

tents and tables or helped moved bleachers.

The custodial staff also created a walking path around

the exterior of the grounds which will be beneficial for

PE or other classes.

Freshmen Only on August 26

To help ease the nerves

of the freshmen, Wed.,

Aug. 26 will be Freshmen

only.

Class of 2024 (and any

other new students to

OHS) will attend school

next Wednesday without

the rest of the upperclassmen

around to embarass

them when they get lost.

The students will get

a chance to walk around

the school and learn their

schedule. They will also
